Session 3

Good Evening Gents, (and Ladies, Scarlet and Beulah) ;) Well, what can I say about today's game. We waited for about a half an hour to see if the missing players were going to login. Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not accusing anyone. I know we all have real lives to attend to. After that time Alex, Nich and I went ahead and moved the party out of the Goblin caves and into Phandalin. Nich's quick thinking saved the crates with the Lion Shield Coster logo on them. Once in Phadalin, the party delivered the crates to Linene Greywind, the manager of the local branch of the Lion Shield Coster. We had a chance for some good role play there and basically the party made a friend of her by returning her merchandise. You also received a reward of 50 gp and she offered to sell any of you weapons from the secret stash she keeps. There you also first learned of the problem the town is facing from the Redbrand threat. Then you helped Sildar into the inn and ordered food and drink to be prepared. While there you saw the Innkeeper, his wife and daughter. Also a huge half Orc half Goliath eating what appeared to be a whole cooked deer. There were also many townsfolk enjoying a drink or a meal. Then you brought the wagon back to Barthen's provisions and received your reward of 8, no 9, no 10 gp each. He loaned you the wagon so that you could do something with the Goblin weapons you carried there. Afterwards the party, at the behest of Sir William, donated all the goblin arms to the town by giving them into the care of the Townmaster Harbin Wester. You got to RP a little with the town master and because of some decent rolls your insight told you that he is a weak, if not corrupt, leader. He flatly denied that the Redbrands were any sort of a threat or problem to the town, but did urge you to do something about the Orc menace that is brewing to the North-East and along the Triboar trail. From him you recieved the "10. Orc Trouble / Wyvern Tor" quest and he offered to pay 100 gp per Orc head that you returned.. Having delivered the weapons to the Townmaster and having gained some insight into his disposition you decided to head back to the Inn as it was getting close to noon. There the party enjoyed beef and barley stew and venison steak with ale. While hearing various rumors form the different Tavern patrons, you noticed a miner who was eyeing the large half Orc whom you had invited to your table. Once invited, the nervous miner related a story of prospecters being killed by some of "his kind," referring to the new party member Rook.  After lunch Sir William desired greatly to investigate the old Manor House, but Glanbir the Dwarf wanted to quickly speak to his old war buddy Daran Edermath the half elf. The quick meeting turned into a much longer affair as he retold the story of 3 other soldier buddies of Glanbir's that all died after an encounter with undead near Old Owl Well. He himself barely escaped with his life, but not with both his legs. From him you received the "11. Old Owl Trouble" quest. The normally boisterous Glanbir was saddened by the news and somewhat quieter for a time.  By this time the rest of the group had logged in and Sir Willy was itchin' for a fight. The party proceeded to the Sleeping Giant Tap Room where the Redbrands were known to frequent. The noble Count walked straight up the 4 ruffians sitting and drinking on the porch and ask if they were Redbrands, when their leader responded with a sarcastic remark, the noble Count Corlin Hill, William Winters took his great axe and decapitated the leader before anyone else could react. This led to a brief but satisfying battle. After a short rest the party, being led by Scarlet, went up to the abandoned Manor house and found the stairwell to the cellar. Rook alerted the party to the fact that he had seen bugbears going down this stairway. Due to some lucky rolls and some lucky positioning when you rolled, the party found both the secret door and Glasstaff's bugout pack. With knowledge of the secret door the party avoided the trapped hall even though Scarlet had already extracted the information of the trap from the captured ruffian. Sir William did a noble deed and released the pimple faced teen under the condition that he no longer get into any trouble.  As the party came out into a large cavern with a crevasse in the middle of it, each member in his or her turn heard an insane voice in their heads. Many heard their own deepest secrets thrown back at them and they didn't like it. Not a single member decided to make a perception roll, so they never found the source of the insane voice. Though the party neglected the perception rolls they were hot with the investigation rolls and found yet another secret door. This one led directly to the Wizards own bed chamber. And again due to very strong rolls they managed to defeat the wizard before he could cast his second spell. (Good thing too. He had Sir William magically held and had many other tricks up his sleeves.) With the battle over and the Wizard in custody they searched his chamber and found many interesting things.  After the party's own mage has a chance to look over the scrolls and spell books and other Items found in both the wizards chamber and the bag of holding, he will be able to tell what spells they contain as well as decipher any abilities the glass staff might have after attuning to it.  That should bring us up to the present. Now let us look at XP and Loot.  After the second session, everyone should have had 480 XP. Mike adjust Rook to reflect the same XP please. This will just make it easier in the future to keep track and perhaps we will level by milestones once you go to Barovia. (If you go to Barovia) I have tried awarding individual XP for personal goals in the past and I don't think that is the best way to reward players. For the moment I will continue to use "Inspiration." The XP totals for this session are as follows: 1. X Meet Me in Phandalin    = 250 XP 4. Escort Sildar to Phandalin = 250 XP 7 Redbrand Ruffians              = 700 XP (As you can see, I'm giving you XP even for the one you released) 2 Secret Doors found             = 200 XP 1 Hidden Bugout pack            = 100 XP 1 Trap found                           = 100 XP (Scarlet persuaded the last ruffian to reveal it's existence.) 1 Glasstaff                              = 200 XP (Can vary based on what you do with him) Total                                       = 1800 XP The Loot from the Wizard's chamber is recapped below: (The loot from the bag-o-holding is listed in the B-O-H. Be sure to read the description of the BOH in the magic item folder. My BOH corrects a mistake made by Wizards of the Coast. So it functions differently than the standard BOH in the DM's guide. Any other loot from defeated enemies has been recorded by Alex. The below is just in case Alex didn't catch everything from the last encounter. You were pretty drunk by then :)) "At the foot of Iarno's bed is a sturdy, unlocked wooden chest holding the best pickings of the Redbrands' loot over the last two months. It contains 180 sp, 130 gp, and a silk pouch containing five carnelians (10 gp each), two peridots (15 gp each), and one pearl (100 gp). It also contains two magic items that larno brought with him from Neverwinter: a scroll of charm person and a scroll of fireball. larno also wields a staff of defense."  The Staff is now visible in the "Magic Items" folder. Bryndon can attune to it after a short rest. (You are the first group to capture Glasstaff at this point in the campaign. Everyone else let him escape and had to battle him later at a higher level. Now you've got a bad ass magic item at a very low level. Even though you did just walk right by an even better magic item and didn't realize it.) Ha ha!
Remember that guys are welcome to post on these threads also.

Alex and Stefanos, That 1800 is the total XP for the party. You have to divide it by 6. That's 300 xp each. Sorry guys, you are still 2nd level.
hearing voice in my head was wierd and rook did not like it but very happy seeing the look on the wizard glasstaff's face when he thought he could not be hit but rook slammed him with the giant maul and caused him to lose the hold that he had on Sir William. rook can drag the wizard around if the party wants we still need to deal with strange voice and we have not found the bugbears i saw coming down here. i do not want to let the wizard out of my site i do not like enemy spellcasters too much
we need to decide the wizard either needs to stay bound and gagged and drug or carried around with us or killed i would be happy to deal with either choice
