[LFP] Twilight 2000 v2 - Weekly - Time TBD

Before I bother making a game and all that, I wanted to see if there was actually any interest out there in T2K.  Quick summary for those that might be curious, but don't have any idea what it is: What is Twilight 2000? It is a Cold War era RPG from GDW (Game Developers' Workshop) that focuses on a party of, mostly, military types in the aftermath of the wheels coming off in the Third World War.  The version I plan on using is v2.2, which debuted in 1993, with a few tweaks of my own (mostly minor details).  Wikipedia actually has a pretty good summary of the timeline's generalities, and the main rule book has a more detailed timeline up to the events of the core book. The campaign is essentially a module called "Going Home", wherein the US military forces in Europe have decided to withdraw from the stagnate European situation and return to the continental United States.  The situation being what it is, the actual order has only filtered down to a small percentage of American forces that are still connected to higher headquarters.  The rumors, however, have gone wild all through Europe.  For the experienced potential player, rather then being in Poland the party are part of the Austrian front in southern Europe.  More details will be provided, provided anyone's interested, in the actual game listing.
I may be interested. Are the books online?
Voice or Text game?

What day were you thinking and what timezone are you in.
Okay, let's try that again: I don't have all of the Twilight 2000 books and will not let anyone consult them through me to cover supplementary material they as a player might not want to purchase.  Instead, purchase them at your retailer of choice.  Drive Thru has them, for example, and physical copies are not all that expensive on your internet auction or book purchasing site of choice. With that out of the way. Josh W. said: I may be interested. Are the books online? Yes.  See above.  Drive Thru RPG has them.  You want 2nd Edition, but 1st Edition is pretty boss too.  I'd avoid Twilight 2013.  It just isn't worth it in my opinion. Day is up for discussion when there are players/a game up.  Timezone is Eastern (GMT-6)

OMG. I would kill to get into a long running Twilight game. I GM'd it on active duty in the Navy in the 1980s, as 1st edition, then 2nd edition. All military players, so we had unit cohesion, and teamwork.   Had 2013, didn't like it, it was too technical in the breakdown by split seconds. My favorite is probably 2nd edition.  Ran that for years, but last ran it, as I recall 10 years ago. I have 2nd edition, copyright 1990. I know 2.2 changed it up a bit. I could adapt. I am retired, 51 living in Thailand. My only restrictions are that I run 5e Mondays at EST 6 AM - 12 PM, and James Bond Thursdays, 6 AM EST -12 PM... and play Traveller here on roll20, Thursdays 4 PM- EST to about 8PM EST.  So Thursdays are just too full. I am a GDW Superfan, mostly of Traveller but also Twilight. I could play anything from American, Brit, Australian, to German anything, Polish partisan or Russian deserter, and can do accents.

I am GMT but I would prefer voice, trying to play Twilight v2.2 over text would be a nightmare.  The only thing that got to me about Twilight 2013 was the dice mechanic.  I was thinking of doing a Roll20 character sheet for it (2013) but it would be not be easy.
Agreed, voice or voice video. Too many potential combat encounters would make text only difficult.
Not really room to negotiate on that.  Face to face is the best way to play any RPG, but voice/video isn't really a substitute.  It always seems to lead to someone having technical difficulties, games being delayed, excessive background noise, terrible audio pickup/inaudible players/GM.  Not being accusatory, just explaining my logic.

Voice is sure a better way than text.  If you use a seperate voice app like skype and have someone with a decent upload host speed there shouldn't be an issue,  But since you said its not negotiable, good luck with all that typing.
Thanks.  I appreciate your interest.
Oh, man, I am sorry, HotelKilo, I misread middle post. I thought you were requesting Voice, and the player was requesting text.   When WebRPG was up, before OpenRPG became a thing about 12-16 years ago, I ran text only games. Star Trek, D&D, Cyberpunk. Three games a week. One significant problem was waiting for other players to type in between, changing their posts, etc. While I was lucky to have players that were very good writers, it made it difficult to convey who was where / when. I am not pushing you to go for voice game for this. I will suggest that if you keep the player group to about 4 or 5 plus GM, and make it a requirement to have a good sound mic, as you interview players, there are a lot of people here that will go for sound only.  Push to talk. Anyone with bad sound, you say sorry, I need clear sound, no background noise as a GM.   I used to game with a guy that had open mic that lived near an airport, it was difficult.  Another guy with a super squeaky chair.   But voice can work.  With the exception of people that like to stream Twitch.  They require video / and audio both. Also what does not work is a mix of people using voice, and people using text. it is too much work to type for the people using text, to explain and keep up with the voice people because the tempo of text is a slower game.   It also requires organization, and real-time turns based on initiative or alphabetically.  People just typing whatever they want to do often get skipped over as the text scrolls past, unless as GM you are very strict. I would also suggest amending your post topic to Text Only Play or similar.   Text games around here are rare, but they exist. Most people do not want to play in them, as it is more work for the player than just talking or clicking a sheet to roll virtual dice. All of that being said, Please keep me on the list of potential players, for a "text only" game of Twilight . I am a science fiction writer. I type every day for hours. And a military veteran, that has run all editions.  I live in Thailand GMT+7, but can match any US based time, since I get up early. I am not available EST TUE or FRI Even if this does not get off the ground, well met.  Twilight games, pretty much do not exist here, as it is seen as Cold War  alternate history and seemingly to many, ancient history...that was decided 30 years ago, before most players around here were born.  I applaud the effort, which is why I jumped in.  Good luck.
I'd be interested in playing.I have all the modules for V1 and all PDFs. Ive been wanting to play a long campaign of T2K for a while played it as a kid and some in the military. Id agree that voice or video/voice is the way to go.
