Hi everyone,
I'm Lyndsey, Mark's wife for those who
don't know me.
Something I have noticed is that there
are a LOT of demands being put on our DMs. I'm not pointing any
fingers here, but just want to send out a reminder to everyone.
Things that have been created,
reviewed, and approved by the DMs (Guild/Faction perks, for example)
are finalized. They are done. They do not need to be reviewed again.
There is a lot of time and thought that goes into making these custom
additions to the game. I know first hand as I have helped make a few
of them. Not only is there a lot of time and thought, but often some
debate (quite heated when it's Mark and his brother lol), and I feel
it is unneccessary to go through all of that again just because the
custom made thing does not serve your idea or purpose.
If you have a custom thing that you
would like made, that's ok. It's best if you try to figure out how to
make it yourself, and then show it to your DM for review. If you
can't that's ok too. It's ok to make requests. Just try to remember
to be reasonable. One request every few months is OK. A request every
two weeks is not. There are many other players and very few DMs. Many
players have their own things that they would like seen to as well.
So if every player has multiple upon multiple demands, it very easily
and very quickly becomes overwhelming. D&D is supposed to be fun,
not just for players, but DMs too.
And that leads me to my next reminder.
Your DMs have their own lives outside D&D. They have things that
they need to get done. They also like to do something in their
downtime, aside from work on the campaign (speaking for the average
person here, as I don't know all the DMs personally). Please keep
this in mind. As for Mark and I, this is one of our busiest times of
year right now, so there is less time to work on the campaign than
there normally is.
A couple of other things.
Rules and crafting sometimes are
discussed/argued at game time. Now it is up to the DM how they handle
that, but for myself, when I show up to game I want to play. Not
listen to discussion and arguments about rules and crafting.
For the most part, apart from a few
house rules, we play by the book. Some rules in the book don't make
sense, they aren't realistic, but regardless that is the way they
work. Sometimes rules have to be discussed during game if they affect
the situation greatly, but for the most part, they should be
discussed outside game time.
The same goes for crafting. Crafting
should be discussed in PMs and forum, unless the game session is
specifically a crafting/downtime session.
None of this is meant harshly, and I
hope it doesn't sound that way. And as I said, I'm not pointing
fingers, just reminding everyone.
God Bless and happy gaming!
