Genies are potent elemental immortals and their need to dominate lesser beings and even each other is legendary. There are those that form pacts with them, gaining arcane insights, the service of a lesser spirit and eventually access to the wondrous treasures these beings have accumulated over the course of their long lives. Some few call them Sa-her. Gen Servant At first level the warlock gains the service of a Gen and may choose its elemental aspect from Earth, Fire, Air, or Water. The Gen are lesser elemental spirits. While elementally attuned, they lack physical substance. They are intelligent in a sense but lack independence or ego. A Gen spirit functions as an unseen servant but primarily serves two important purposes. First, they are adept at manipulating eldritch energies and facilitate the warlock in casting spells. Second, existing in an immaterial state they can readily traverse the boundaries between worlds almost undetectable by anything save the warlock they serve or their Genie master. As long as they are in the presence of their warlock they can manipulate the arcane energies provided by the warlock to cast a spell at the warlock’s behest. When the warlock takes the spellcasting action, the Gen can provide the verbal and somatic components mimicking the effects of the Subtle Spell metamagic option available to sorcerers. Creatures benefitting from the see invisible spell or that have Truesight can see the Gen and detect the spellcasting. Gen are immune to one elemental energy type related to its aspect, resistant to every other damage type except for magic weapons, and has 1 hit point for every warlock level its master has. If reduced to 0 hit points, it reforms on its elemental plane and returns to its master's side after 4d6 hours. At any time a warlock can use an action to sacrifice a spell slot and direct their Gen to seek a spell which they are normally unable to cast. Seeking a spell that shares the Gen’s elemental aspect (a matter for the DM to determine though it should be fairly obvious) or another warlock spell takes a relatively short period of time and the Gen will return at the end of the warlock’s next short rest. The Warlock must cast the spell, providing all necessary components, before taking another short rest and the Gen cannot perform Verbal or Somatic Components until the the spell is discharged. If the Warlock wishes they can instead direct their their Gen to search far and wide for any spell which they have seen cast by another creature or from a scroll. In this case the Gen will not return until the end of the Warlock’s next long rest. The Warlock must cast the spell before taking another short rest and the Gen cannot perform Verbal or Somatic Components until the the spell is discharged. Gen cannot acquire spells of any level higher than the spell slot sacrificed to initiate the search. For spells of 6th level and beyond the Warlock must sacrifice an appropriately leveled use of their Mystic Arcanum feature. Seeking spells of such power is sure to catch the attention of potent extradimensional beings that may follow the errant Gen back to its arrogant master. Wondrous Conveyance At level 6 the warlock has learned the rituals to summon the wondrous conveyances at their master’s disposal. Only one such conveyance can be summoned at a time and the Warlock must complete a short rest before attempting to summon one again. Each ritual requires 10 minutes. When a conveyance has met its time limit it disappears. Flying Carpet- as described in the DMG, this conveyance will remain at the warlock’s disposal for 1 hour. Folding Boat- as described in the DMG, this conveyance will remain at the warlock’s disposal for 1 journey shore to shore/port to port. Royal Palanquin- this conveyance seems large enough for 1 huge creature but can hold up to 8 medium creatures or up to 1,600 lbs of cargo. It has hardness of 20, 100 hit points, and provides total cover to all within. It is transported by 4 delicate porcelain statues that have the stats of skeletons with the following alterations: neutral, earthglide/burrow, no attacks, which exhale a magical perfume that protects the conveyance and its occupants from the elemental hazards of the inner plane associated with the warlocks patron. As long as at least 2 statues are functional the Palanquin has a speed of 30 but disappears if one or fewer statues remain. This conveyance will remain at the warlock’s disposal for 24 hours. Mechanical Steed- this conveyance has the stats of a draft horse with the following changes: Construct, Resistant to Bludgeoning/Piercing/Slashing, Immune to Fire, Fear, Poison, and Charm. Speed 100. This conveyance will remain at the warlock’s disposal for 2 hours. Magnificent Retreat At level 10 the warlock has earned the right to summon a path to a magnificent sanctuary that belongs to their master. Summoning the path requires the expenditure of a spell slot and 1 minute ritual or a 10 minute ritual. At the end of the ritual a palatial tent that functions as Leomund’s Tiny Hut containing food for up to 8 medium creatures will appear and remain for 8 hours. Completing a long rest in the retreat grants a creature Temporary hit points equal to the Warlock’s Charisma bonus that last until its next long rest. The warlock must complete a long rest before summoning the path again. Elemental Enslavement At level 14 the warlock’s knowledge of elementals makes the construction of a magical focus that can trap them in an extradimensional space and that can be inscribed on an object or tattooed onto the warlock. At that time they are forced to make a perilous choice, create a focus to trap their master or prove their loyalty by enslaving one of their master’s foes. If the warlock creates a focus and captures their master, the genie’s type matches that of their Gen. If they capture their master’s foe, the elemental can be any type other than that of their Gen's element. Iron flasks are a popular object to use for the focus but rings, bottles, and lamps are also possible. If the magic focus is targeted by dispel magic the elemental within will be temporarily unbound. Henceforth the warlock can use an action to conjure the elemental forth for combat or labor. If summoned for combat the elemental remains for 1 minute and the warlock must devote each of their actions for that minute to maintain control of it. If the control is broken, such as if the warlock is asleep, incapacitated, or stunned the elemental is free to attack the warlock or the focus object until the minute is up. If the focus object is destroyed the elemental is freed. If the elemental would be reduced to 0 hit points it is instead banished back into the extradimensional space. If the genie is summoned for labor, it will remain for 8 hours and can be given verbal instructions to perform any labor of which it is capable with no additional action required by the warlock. If the genie suffers any damage while performing labor it will return to its extradimensional space. The warlock must complete a long rest before attempting to conjure the elemental forth again.
