One thing to remember is that the fate core system is a tool box so if the GM wants to represent a particular aspect of an existing game like call of Cthulhu , d&d or shadowrun they may need additional tools , for instance if I were going to do shadowrun (I think the game is about gear rather than skills) then the existing skill set would be dropped and replaced with gear . As an example a sniper rifle would have a +4 and a hand gun say +1 to add to a die roll , so players would create a gear set of scores (4,3,3,2,2,2,1,1,1,1) and their race would modify their stress boxes. With d&d and Cthulhu I have used something called conditions which are like consequences but can be a negative or a positive but will only effect that character and last a set amount of time (think of them like temporary scene aspects which may only effect that character or NPC). You may want to have an additional stress track say social if you wanted to do a game involving a court intrigue type setting. Magic is quite hard to do but that is effectively a mixture of the above bolt ons one other item to mention , anything could be a character or npc for instance a fighter using a cursed sword could be required to succeed in a mental test against that sword before using it , that sword could have its own character sheet and personality i use a custom fate character sheet which encompasses those ideas Rob
