Is this even possible?

Yes, you can hold shift and click each thing you want to select.

You might also find my MapLock script useful, which lets you mark graphics you don't want moved, and it will move them back into place if you accidentally move them.
What if you accidently delete it?  What I want to do is be able to grab a bunch of stuff sitting on the actual map yet are also on the map layer.  Shift click should work though.
When I do something like this, I temporarily move the one or two items I don't want selected (the map in this case) to the GM layer.  Then you can select everything else easily with CTRL-A.

I once had a large map of one piece with lots of tokens sitting on it so I clicked on a clear area on the map then moved the map to the GM layer so that I could click on the various tokens without accidentally clicking on the map. After I was done, I went to the GM layer and sent the map back to the original layer.
These are all good ideas was hoping for something slightly less time consuming but it'll have to work I guess.
