It would be nice to be able to trade characters easily. A pubicly accessible library of them would probably violate some IP rule, though.
Thanks for the reply. I found some digging through some roll20 modules I have.. every time I delve into pregen characters I find out that players really don't dig them that much.. so I am cautiously backing out of this rabbit hole.

For 5e, you might get some mileage out of creating pseudo-pregens at the level you're interested in for each Class and Archetype, something where you've boiled down to a list of what they need to know for that character type and placed it in the bio section or somewhere easily referenced: 6th Level Ranger -- Hunter Archetype Choices: • Skills: choose 3 from (Animal Handling, Athletics, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival) • Favored Enemy: choose 2 (2 humanoid types counts as 1 pick) • Fighting Style: choose 1 from (Archery, Defense, Dueling, Two-Weapon Fighting) • Spellcasting: choose 4 spells mixed between 1st and 2nd level • Hunter's Prey (Hunter Archetype): choose 1 from (Colossus Slayer, Giant Killer, Horde Breaker) • Ability Score Improvement: add +1 to each of two different stats or pick a feat • Hitpoints: roll 5d10+10+(Con-mod*6) That would let you fill in everything else for that class already and let a player interested in playing a Ranger(Hunter) in your game quickly fill in the missing bits with their own choices. Depending on what character sheet you're using, you could have many of the above choices set up already with instruction to remove all but 1 of them. Would be a bit of work up front, but it might save a bunch of time at the table.
Thanks Aaron, that is helpful advice.. it opens a door I had not thought about

I keep a library campaign that only has characters with the racial abilities filled in. So someone could pull in a red Dragonborn through the Transmogrifier for instance, with the appropriate breath weapon, senses, languages, etc. already filled in. The same could probably also be done for classes.
This is a few months old, but in case anybody else is interested there are a handful of pre-generated characters each at levels 1-10 available on the Dungeons and Dragons website, for use with the Adventurer's Guild.
There's also this website that has over a thousand pre-generated characters. http://www.digitaldungeonmaster.com/dd-5e-character-sheets.html

Probably a little late but I recently posted a pack of pregens. I have a sheet for each of the 6 characters, level 1-5. Before I posted them I took some polls, and tried to make characters that I myself, as well as my players would enjoy. The idea was to make the sheets full optimized w/ macros and and save time for players eliminating the tedious time needed to add spells. With this set I also included a character randomizer for creating: stats, race, class, alignment (not evil), and languages. All SRD of course. http://bit.ly/HPo6v1 With enough feedback and success I have a 2nd pack already made and ready for release, as well as several more in the works.
