[LFP] D&D/PF AP/Campaign Weekends Euro afternoon/US morning. Experienced DM seeking good group. (Free)

If I find the right group I would like to start a campaign. Potential AP candidates: Zenith(4ed/Pathfinder), Kingmaker(Pathfinder), Shackled city (3.5), or with the "right" kind of players homebrew 5ed or 13th age. I am also open to other suggestions. As long as I have a cool group to play with I can DM/GM practically anything, and I can afford most stuff. I am aiming for one 3-5 hour session most weekends; se below for more details about potential times. About me: Software engineer and certified math/physics teacher with 20 years+ of experience as player and DM (I estimate my DM hours to be far into the 4 digits, not counting prep-time). Not a native english speaker, but mainly recognizable by my accent taking some time to get used to. As you can see from this description I am not shy of being verbose :P (and you can probably also see that my spelling and gramar would have made your english teacher shake his or her head). I am a previous pluss member of Roll20 and are likely to upgrade again if I get a group. In my games I strive for strong internal logical consistency, rewarding player creativity, and exploiting the tactical oportunities given by the rules. So if you join, expect a reason for everything that happens and tense life or death moments. Example of feedback I have gotten: "Everything seem interlinked!" (homebrew campaign), "I learned a lot about DMing from you", "That was too intense" (Everyone came out of the encounter alive, but I think everyone had been in a dying state at one point) "Amazing how you just roll with the punches" (Someone impressed at how i managed to turn every crazy idea they sendt in my direcion into something reasonable). Strengths as DM: Improvisation skill, leading without dictating, technical skills, engaged storytelling, quick decision making, dedication, good rule understanding, overview. Weakneses: Use of audio-visual stimuli, making up voices for characters, making of assets (Argument for running games with premade assets), detail-planing, organizing RL. stuff (like what or when to play :P ), making or remembering names. And a thing some might react to: Somewhat anti-pirate. About you: You have to be dedicated and able to play one day most weekends afternoon european time/morning american time. I would also strongly appriciate if you are intending to be active on fora/chat/roll20 also in some weekdays, preferably evening European time (daytime American time). You want to be part of a group making a shared experience together for each other; both in game and out of game. You want to play the other players good, because you know that improves the experience for yourself as well. You should be prepared for your character to die without this ruining your week (But the healthy sadness of the loss of a cool guy or gall for an evening is ok). You have are prepared to interact with the game-world in a mature and decent way (no Leroys, please). The game may contain Adult-complexity dilemmas and issues, but I prefer my "content" to be suitable for 13 year olds (so no graphic descriptions of sex or voilence, please). You are an *efficient* player, not very prone to analyzis paralyzis or Monty Python quotes. You are attentive and most of the time know what to do imidiately when your are aksed without having to ask about what is going on. You look for ways to put your creative stamp on a game even if it might seem like a railroad, but never trying to force the train off tracks. Finally: You don't have to be experienced as long as you recognize yourself in the qualities described before, and are willing to learn outside ordinary gaming hours. I have quite a bit of positive experience introducing new players to the game. Chances of getting chosen for the final game might however increase with some experience. The process: Edit - is outdated. Now please apply at https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/74191/stolen-land If you have any questions before applying, please PM me unless you really believe the answer is of public interest. If you recognize yourself in the description above, please apply in this thread. When writing your application focus on me getting a good first impression of you in light of the qualities described above, and why you would like to be part of the group. Characters should be made to match the setting and group, so details about favored characters should only be included if you think it tells something about your general playing style. [outdated!] Most applicants can be expected to be invited to stage 2 that will involve being invited by pm to a seperate "recruitment game" and discord for chatting with me and other applicants. I will also try to run "get to know" each other games of 1-4 sessions that you will be strongly encouraged to participate in (Depending on the number of applicants I am prepared to run it "horde style"). The treashold of kicking will be quite low if I find I don't like your play-style, and in return you have a low treashold for leaving if you find you don't like my style (but please keep in mind that these short-games by design will be quite different than a campaign type of game). Following this procedure I hope a natural group of 4-8 players will form naturally. There are however a real chance that this won't happen. In this case I and the remaing candidates have to decide if we are going to try different advertisement channels or cancel the process (Life has to much things to offer to waste it on a group you are not feeling entirely confortable with). With a group established we can sit down and talk seriously about the details of when, what and who whe are going to play.' [/outdated! see post from 4th of april]
hey i'm new to all this but i would love to join if you are willing to give this newbie a shot! i'm a team player i personaly find it to hot in the spotlight :p i don't panic easly but i might need a bit of time to get a hold of the rules. i very much enjoy being creative and even in my real life i find that the straight just isn't in my gps. if there is a fun side road or a creative way to make an entrence i will go for that one!
As stated in the intro being new you are still very welcome to "stage 2" where we can try to get you a bit up an running on the concepts; then we can see if you seem to be ready and fiting for a more long term group, or if you should try some more shorter games with others to find your "style" before you make the commitment of joining a full campaign. (Invites are sendt later as I am at work now).
Greetings, to all. I have Pathfinder, and played it, I would really like to get into a Pathfinder style Complete Campaign Builder using 12 mile hexes, from those rules for leadership and kingdom building, but can never find a DM to run that. I used to run those epic flavor Birthright campaigns using straight Birthright for AD&D 2e in 1996. I have been a 5th ed D&D GM since the early Beta. I have played 13th age. What I am seeking and bring: I've been an actor-style / voice actor with accents player (I also like puzzles), and narrative style plotter/mapper GM of almost any RPG you can name, started in the mid-70s. Really looking for a long term 5e campaign with a harmonious group that gets along and respects each other, and respects the DM, and the work that goes into a game setting over time. I'd really prefer a campaign that emphasizes, (or at least doesn't outright ignore) gritty realism like encumbrance, weather, and resource management. If it is cold we wear blankets and a cloak. We do not normally sleep in armor. Plate or chain mail mean we start out encumbered, and that is just how it is. Fires are hard to start in the rain. Especially low fantasy, I like to run it and play it. Any game that comes down to orc camp raid of the week is not my thing. I like intrigues, and plots. But a simple "Rescue someone from a tower" action scenario is cool, as long as that is not the only thing, week to week. I prefer long resting times. I feel that a game where characters regain all hit points after each adventure leads to fighting armies of Dragons before breakfast, and combat-as drama. I live in Thailand at GMT+7, but I normally run a game Saturday Night at my 11 PM for players in Germany, which is 5 PM GMT+1, I think. About me...Retired Military Veteran, amateur astronomer, studied Physics, but my degree is in Asian Religion and Culture. All of my gamer friends in teen years that I used to DM for opened hobby stores in America, I joined the military. I am good at making maps for a sketch to support the campaign, and have used Larry Elmore Character design kit to make character sketches for game groups in the past. My biggest deal-breaker is I prefer Harmonious players (even if there is character tension), and absolutely no domineering control freaks among the players. As long as we get an even chance in a game, I am open to losing characters, as long as we have choices in a scenario that ends up killing them. I.e. Today you will die in a tiger pit with three tigers as a 1st level PC is a non-starter as a scenario. I usually play in and run low or no magic campaigns. Thus I play a fighter type. But not always looking for combat, because I prefer to have intellectual / smart characters in any game that I play. I have an interest in assisting the GM or facilitating the story. I am not looking to be an assistant DM or DM at this time, I am running three games a week already. Rather, if the group is in town and refugees are fleeing down the road from "A dread thing in yon keep that is eating people..." Then as a player and character, I will at that point decide to try and recruit some others to help solve the problem, rather than "Shop at the magic shoppe then get lunch." If the DM says that the rain is washing away all the bridges upstream, and floods are coming, I do not decide as a player to go to the sage and ask questions about how to make papyrus for a new scrollbook. So, facilitating what seems to be the story at hand, not splitting up, not going off on a tangent to make more work for the DM. I have ran those games, or games where players try to "Crack the scenario" or "Break the story" in metagame fashion, and they are a complete waste of everyone's time. If we do not get a chance to game together, well met anyway. Nice to see another DM running things, clearly stating what they bring to the table, what they are looking for and their style on roll20. We need more of this, overall to satisfy the ongoing lack of DMs, in the face of massive amounts of players who cannot find or get into games. Especially DMs with a serious Old Skool approach. I have Discord, Skype, Teamspeak, and - James AKA Old Skool DM

I must say, although I have generally began to dislike Pathfinder for what it is and the sorts of things that it is infamously known for, this has roused my curiosity to an extent. At the very least I would like to see more about what this little get-together could entail and eventually spawn as you seem to be notably competent and able to avoid the issues that seem to poison some of the PF crowd; I approve! Lately I have been somewhat starved for games as well so this is quite promising in terms of finding something potentially long-term to play. If it all doesn't work out, however, I understand that it's better than struggling through and ruining everyone's day. Attendance isn't a question for me, I will either attend a game at the alloyed time or let you know several days beforehand and such; having players in the first place is vital after all. I do have to say that I enjoy joking around the table but I don't think it's too disruptive, particularly as I have risen above making Monty Python references (still enjoy their shorts and moves though). Although indecisiveness is a thing that plagues me at times it's not to the point of paralysis that will pull the game to an absolute stop. Besides that, it takes me a moment to get into character; playing it out and interactions really help with letting me immerse myself in the role. Experience-wise I'm not too shabby, got practice with PF, enough of it to not have to look up every single rule or ability whenever it comes up and I've looked at 13th Age. D&D 5e, however, I am not a huge fan of. It simply does not appeal to me in the slightest and were it to be the system chosen in the end I do think I'd bow out. When it comes to characters I try to not be as generic as one might be, and minmaxing to hell and back is not one of my strong points; in a party of such players I would surely fall behind at some point.

I have now sendt the first batch of invites to stage 2, but we are still a bit short on candidates compared to ideal (even though the applications are exelent so far). I would like to make a quick public reply to Bart tough, as I was a bit concerned about if my own Monty Python reference could be taken the wrong way: I off course enjoy a bit of light mood and joking around the table as most else. The timing should however be right, and Monty Python in particular are notorious for being imersion breaking (Even though I also love their sketches. And if a salesman are actually selling your character a dead perodactyl, you are hereby allowed to go full monty on him)

This seems intriguing and I would very much like to be a part of this. I live in Germany so gaming in the afternoon on the weekends should work out for me. As for my playstyle, I would consider myself as a storyplayer, enjoying and creating a interesting story with my fellow players and the DM as the campaign unfolds. Which doesn't mean I don't care for the rules, I think rules are important, but not as much as a good story being told, and also focusing to much on rules would just end in arguments and halt the game. I also try most of the time to be serious and focus on the plot, but from time to time I do like to make jokes to just lighten up the mood. As for the campaign style itself I'm up to most things, meaning it could range from a grim and dark world like Warhammer or your typcial lofty high-fantasy setting were we are the chosen ones to battle evil. Experience-wise I have played a little bit with Pathfinder, D&D 3.5, 4e and AD&D 2e. I never have played 13th Age, but I do have the Core Rules Book for it and would be willing to learn the rules, if the group should decide on that (Also some friends of mine have said, that it's similar to 4e, if that is correct ?) Personally for me I would like to play with D&D 5e, as I have the most experience with that system. I don't like min-maxing as I try to make competent characters who have strengths but also weaknesses, as this is more realistic as no one is flawless and it becomes boring if you are playing superman who can basically crush most things on his way.
Sounds very interesting. I'm a veteran rpg enthusiast. I started back in the day with advanced D&D on to the 5th and Pathfinder (i also enjoy Sine Requie and the Call of Cthulhu). I've been playing for roughly 15 years, i've been a Dungeon Master for the last 6 and i like deep and detailed storytelling and roleplaying. I usually tend to create very detailed characters with realistic flaws and personalities, meaning that i greatly enjoy to play a character with an extensive background and a coherent personality. I'm quite capable to adapt to any role needed by a party but i usually prefer roles such as Rogue, Paladin (not the classic prick that bothers party member with trivial moral stuff, i usually like to emphasize on how difficult it is to always try to "do the right thing" and try to maintain your morals and humanity intact) or an academic that can be either a cleric or a mage. I put a lot of time and effort in my characters and my settings and i'm looking for a relaxed and mature environment to have a good time. I'm no stranger to combat or very technical builds and/or mechanics and i can adapt accordingly depending on the preferred style.

Oldboy from sweden is interrested. Been playing a varety of games over the years but never played D&D or pathfinder. I have Had a paus from gami but just got back into it and i am fairly new to Roll20. Been playing some CoC and Warhammer, Dark Heresy. Also been looking around for a game of D&D or pathfinder. But so far not Managed to play any yet. Probably becasue there are so many players for each GM and open spot. but also because i dont want to join any game. I dont want to end up in a pure dungeoncrawler game or a game that only or mostly just focus on combat. I do love combat but i dont want the game to be focused on it. i want a story, roleplaying and character developement. If playing like that the combat tend to show up along the way :) When it comes to characters i do like them to have personality, backstory and such not just a fighter, rogue, wizard amont the rest. I do want a character that is fairly good on what he do, be it fighting, magic or other things. But I don't like min/maxing to get the best possible character. When playing i want a functional group. Some internal tensions and such is fun but not to such degree the group is not working out. I mean I there is a character that have no will to work witht he group. no desire to help out and is only carign about himself or even tryign to ruin for the rest. why the hell should the group accept him? I can see this work if its somethign planed. like one character is needed. he has some knowledge or somethignt hat the group really need. they have to bring him along even if he is a selfish childish a-hole that drives anyone nuts. but thats another thing thats kinda planed and a part of the story. But over all i want a functional group specially when it comes to the players. If the players work well together some tension among the character can be fun if played right. I dont mind mature themes to a degree. I am not playing games like this to live out sexual fantasies or to have others do that. so not going into details. And i like things like combat to be dangerous. i don't want my character to die. But if there is no risk there is no thrill. If almost every fight is easy and we kick ass without being in much danger, well then it gets boring. if he dies its a bit sad but thats the life of an adventurer. if i want him to be safe he would not be out fightign then he would be a baker or something insted :) I am kinda looking for a group of dedicated players that will be meeting up regulary to play and chat. Not every other week with no contact what so ever in between. i do think i am a fairly friendly and open guy. I am sure i have my quirks but who does not have that? :) I do have skype and discord. if there is anything you want to know just PM me. Looking forward to hear from you. and hopefully to be able to play in the future. if not i do wish you good luck Edit: Also i am open for other games to. i have nothing against trying systems i havent played before.
hey there, my friends and i would like to play. we've been playing table top for a while but are new to the roll20 version. we dont know very much how to get started on roll20 but once were set up to play we can deliver a good game. looking for help to get started.
I am happy to see that this thread have returned strongly with several good applications after 4 days of silence :) The time since I first posted this have been very educational with regards to the social currents at work in the Roll20 community. I thus feel like I should give a brief update on my findings, and how that affects this recruitment: First the proposed process turn out to not work out due to the number and nature of the applicants so far. It is geared toward a more "competative" approach to group building than standard. and requires either a very high number of aplicants (but not as high as with the typical LFG postings), or a steady stream of applicants. To make matters worse I have found this also seem to be a bit attractive to a kind of player that are less likely to work well in a team. I still have a wish to make a group, but based on this posting a more cooperative approach than competative are required. I therefore call for those of you that have applied so far to reapply if you would like to join in being an active partner in assembeling a group to our likeing; giving a short statement about your vision for such a group.
I have started an ad for an intro game. New applications should go there: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/74191/stolen-land
