New Here

Okay, so I'm new to this. I watched Cry and friends play D&D on Twitch and was intrigued and wanted to play it myself. I've never played any of this before, haven't created a character, nothing. I just made my account on this, and would like to know how to play, create a character, all that jazz. If anyone can help me out, that would be great. I'm not limited to playing just D&D, I wouldn't mind learning how to play the other games as well. Lemme know if you can help out with some tips, or just overall helping me out. Thanks

Moving this to Off-Topic since this sounds more like getting started into the hobby rather than Roll20-specific questions in general. Welcome, Levi. Always good to see new people trying the hobby out. For starters, what sort of genre do you feel like playing? D&D Fantasy is what most people think about when they see Tabletop RPGs, but the sky's really the limit when it comes to settings and systems. Do you want to play fantasy, sci-fi, urban fantasy, crime noir, etc. etc. Pick something you dig and there's probably a system out there already to play.
Kristin, I'm really here to play any genre. I'm pretty adventurous and willing to try anything here. Could you give me an idea as to what would be best for a first timer? and how to create a character?
Levi, creating a character is going to depend on what system you are interested in and what sort of house rules the GM who runs the game uses. Even D&D has many different editions, and there are literally hundreds of other RPG systems out there. Some are rules heavy, some are light, some simple, some complex. There are even some available for free. If you're interested in D&D, for instance, you can find the rules for the 3.5 edition for free ( http://www.d20srd.org/ ). The 5th edition of D&D is actually available for playtesting right now ( https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dndnext.aspx ). Some folks around here like the Basic RPG system ( http://www.basicfantasy.org/ ) as well. If you haven't had the chance yet, you could take a look around the Looking for Group forums ( https://app.roll20.net/forum/category/22 ) and Looking For Group Listings ( https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search ) to get feel for what kind of games are being run here on Roll20. It might give you some ideas on what you'd like to play. You can also check out the Roll20 Wiki ( https://wiki.roll20.net/Main_Page ) to learn more about how the application works when you're ready.

To figure out a genre you would probably like, think about what books you absolutely love to read over any other and that would probably be the type of game you would enjoy the most. Most people start off in fantasy because that is usually the most popular (game system doesnt matter-learn as you go) but your likes and dislikes will play a large amount of having fun.
Alright I appreciate all the help guys, thank you so much. I'll start looking around and seeing what really sparks my interests. Thanks again!
