Peregrine, a 7' tall Elf clearly raised in the wild without soap or manners, recounts the strangeness with her ward, Terra...the last of House Carthage. The following dialogue was overheard: "Peregrine...what happened here? How did our lives come to this?" Terra asked. The Elf grunted and stroked the feathers of her falcon. "Something wrong. Magic in Vale. Wizards three. Strangers come." "Yes I was there for that, Perri. The little man with arms like flesh ropes....the blue lady wielding a fire wand...the frog woman. Clearly these strangers were the salvation and sign we were looking for. I prayed, Perri...I prayed to whatever god would listen to send a sign to help our family, and this was it..." Terra trailed off. "Steep price." Terra snapped a look at the Elf that could melt steel, her pride flarin. "My brother and uncle died bravely. Did you see the nature of their killers? Demons! Monsters! My beloved brother, Grendel, strong in arm but weak in constitution, felled not once, but TWICE. First by that blowhard drunken Captain as we tried to rest..." "New friends make short work. Fight well." Peregrine interrupted. The falcon shook out it's feathers. "Indeed." Terra sighed and checked her shield for dings. "...and the second time I watched my brother die it was to that disgusting creature made of flies...it was almost too much. Climbing down that pit...that stench...ugh. Odd...I felt... protected somehow. As if all was going according to some grand cosmic plan..." "Starting to remember...magic. Skills. From...before." Peregrine looked confused. She was cunning like an animal, but not so quick on a more...civilized level. She put her gnarled hands over her face. Terra placed a hand on her shoulder. The falcon cawed pensively. "Yes, Perri...I feel it too. We are changing...I am remembering serving a glowing warrior god...a beacon of light...the name...Ras." Terra sat down. "Oh Perri...what about Uncle Vordul! I know you and he were close, and you served him for many years. He died bravely defending us from the Jester...that creature who turned from man, to demon, to worse, and back...I believe it was his defeat that led to our change." "We go with strangers. Find answers." Peregrine said as she stood. Terra looked up and began to speak. "Yes...as last of House Carthage, I will seek the glory I knew my family was destined for, and I will honor the memory of my brother and uncle! Come, Perri...we will..." Terra was cut short as the Elf stood to her full height and snatched the spear from her hand. "My name is Peregrine. Your uncle is dead. I serve no one." The falcon cawed triumphantly as Peregrine walked toward the group of strangers... Terra picked up the remainder of the belongings and, dejected, trotted to keep up.
