G4C Main Game Audit

Until we decide what we want to do with the main game, I am in the process of moving some things around to make it more easily accessible for DMs and Players alike. No offense, but we need an organized way to present information in the future so I am working on the best way to do that. I have a few things I would like to know about however and they are as follows: 1. Do we still need the "Character Sheet Update!" handout (as in is this a recent handout or an old one, if old can we get rid of it? 2. Can we make sure new players have folders ASAP after they join? I see a lot of "blank character sheets" that are not blank. Even if we use the Vault, having a player store their character in a folder why they finish it would be awesome. 3. Can we make it to where we don't see everyone's character sheet? DMs can seen them regardless, but can we make it to where players don't see each other'? That might help with player load times. It would also greatly simplify the layout. 4. I placed all DM related stuff in the DM Tools . This includes the Experience Log which is near the top. 5. All player folders are now under characters . And I would suggest any future character that is developed (pre-vault) be made inside the player folders not in the Blank Character sheets section.  6. I have organized all information into five main sections. These include: 1) New Players: Start Here, 2) DM Tools, 3) Characters, 4) For Player Information, and 5) If you can't find it, look here. New Players: Start Here includes: Set Up Guide, Character Sheet Update, Races, and Blank Character Sheet DM Tools includes anything that pertains to all G4C DMs. Characters includes all discernable player folders For Player Information includes all information that every player in G4C needs to know about. (e.g. downtime, service, magic weapons, etc.) If You Can't Find It, Look Here: contains everything from random character sheets, particular DM notes, strange floating handouts, and other clutter that made the interface look like a digital tornado hit it (Ha!).  7. The "READ ME!!!!" in the Blank Sheets folder just repeats information in the "Character Setup Guide". I recommend deletion. 8. DMs need to keep their work in a neat folder in side the DM Tools subcategory. Roll20 only allows so many levels of subfolders, I know. However, in order to keep the interface clean, we need to keep those things down. 9. Random players/NPCs/or what...  There was a whole "Random" folder of floating Characters/NPCs that are not in a player folder. If they are not longer in use they should deleted. If they are they need to be placed in a player folder until we figure whether we will start using the Character Vault system. 10. Floating objects and journals and such . Again they are not attributed to anyone and kind of floating in space. It is my strong recommendation that we start using the Character Vaults once a character is ready, that we delete monster sheets, and that we create a new location for random games (not attached to a particular location) for free DMs to use. If we leave the main page just for player creation and information, then we will be in good shape. If we have something we need from the G4C main page we can use the Transmogrifier to move it from one game to another. Let's keep the main page clean and simple. I am willing to begin working on making it even more streamlined, neat, and professional but that is up to the rest of you. Thanks!
1. Do we still need the "Character Sheet Update!" handout (as in is this a recent handout or an old one, if old can we get rid of it?   Yes. 2. Can we make sure new players have folders ASAP after they join? I see a lot of "blank character sheets" that are not blank. Even if we use the Vault, having a player store their character in a folder why they finish it would be awesome. I don't see how this can work. We don't need to be giving sheets folders or adding until they are in a game and the DM's OKing the sheets is suppose to be doing this along with giving them a token. Keeping in mind that 80% of these new players just create sheets and then never play and we end up deleting them after a few weeks. Giving them folders is just more work and more stuff to load that will be deleted in a few weeks anyway.  3. Can we make it to where we don't see everyone's character sheet? DMs can seen them regardless, but can we make it to where players don't see each other'? That might help with player load times. It would also greatly simplify the layout. It will help with the lay out. But it is not going to have an effect on the load time. It still loads unseen material at start unless Roll20 has changed its code in the last few months.

I understand that, but it is a mess to have a bunch of characters that were blank sheets just taking up the space.  Maybe we can create a folder for incomplete character sheets? Blank Sheets should be just that: blank sheets. 3. That's what I figured.

Blank Sheets should be just that: blank sheets. They were in a folder or should be. But weather or not they are in a folder it will still be a time sink at load.  Seen or unSeen is just a code flag. The site still loads all folders and sheets at start. The sheets take longer because of the scripts that run on them. Both roll20 buildt in and the one DMs can add.

Character vaults will work fine for PCs moving between campaigns (although it should be noted that the Character Vault does not sync, and if changes are made to a character in one campaign, the character will need to be deleted/re-uploaded to the Vault to be used in a different campaign. If you delete any monsters/maps/handouts/whatever, keep in mind that only the Game Creator (Mark) can Transmogrify items from one campaign to another.  So a DM who needs to use a particular monster/map/handout/whatever in a session may not have access to it, and no way to pull it in without Mark's help.

Maps don't seem to be as much of an issue. When I talked to the Roll20 Dev Team in the past, they said that having LOTS of character sheets was the issue.  So I would say that we should start with moving monsters to a master Monster Compendium. I think that and disabling any scripts while they are not being used would be the best start.

Here is the Monster Compendium page... <a href="https://app.roll20.net/join/2205713/FxR8tg" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/join/2205713/FxR8tg</a> I will promote people to DM and you can vault the monsters there and then delete them in G4C.

3. This step has to be completed after the character sheet is made. It cannot be set up previous to that without denying new players access to the sheets. Afterwards, you set the sheet to visible to All Players so people can see the images and Bios as it was intended and then set Edit rights to only that player that owns the sheet.

3. If we deny all players of seeing the character Bios, the Bios will be rendered useless.

4. The PCs requested that the Experience Log be in a place that they can find easily. Moving it will increase requests for access to it.

5. Doing this prevents any new members from being able to create a character until after a DM has had time to set up a folder. I personally will not have time to manage this.&nbsp; Remember that we are trying to keep DM management to as little as possible.

7. This was added upon request for a reference while in the campaign. Removing it will increase requests for DM help for character creation as it was in the past. If anything, I would move the handout to blank character sheets. Handouts that do not contain images do not slow down page performance.

Basically, the only viable solution I can see is to move monsters and disable scripts that are not in use.

It is ready for Vaulting. I am creating the custom sheet and script now.

I am also changing G4C to the Custom version 10 sheets and script to resolve associated issues.

The sheet coding has been updated. This should help performance a bit. But I still think we should transfer the monsters and make G4C our hub for character creation.
I disabled most of the scripts I was using, but I'll say that it's not the scripts causing the slowdown - there's not really that many enabled.

Note that sheets that were created with a newer version (most previously made character sheets) will function properly but will display additional text in chat when abilities are used. See sample: Longbow (Turn) Laharl Ranged Weapon Attack: 14to hit, range150/600 Hit: Rolling 1d8[damage] + 3[dex] = ( 4)+3" style="line-height: ; word-wrap: break-word ; background: 0px 0px ; border: 2px solid transparent ; padding: 0px 2px ; font-weight: bold ; cursor: help ; font-size: 18px ; border-radius: 3px"&gt;7&nbsp; piercing damage Has_attack_damage. 1 Attack_damage_macro. I believe that the real issue is the hoards of sheets. That was the issue we had a few years back when we campaigned. You are probably right in that the scripts aren't much of a problem. I think we will find they will work fine once everything has been moved.

I never saw a huge problem till all the monsters were added. Having them all in a separate monster compedium should be a big help. Been busy today and unable to help with the project that I instigated, sorry.&nbsp;

I haven't seen anyone use one of the premade characters in the vault to date. Was a good idea, but I guess everyone wants to make their own. That's 4 character sheets that can be outright deleted.
Mark S. said: The sheet change appears to have helped IMMENSELY. Yes, it is already performing better.
I just realized I put this in the wrong forum...lol
Well, at least everyone knows we're trying to fix the problem :)

No worries. I think most DMs are on the new forums now. I will be mostly using them for DM communications.&nbsp;
