You are not fearsome. You are not strong. For you, being
brave means scampering to hide when a bird flies overhead while others flee in
terror. But you are proud, and if need be, you can be fierce.
You are a member of the Mouse Guard, an order tasked with
protecting the empire by patrolling, clearing paths, blazing trails, maintaining
the scent border, and rescuing other mice in distress. Yours can be a thankless
duty at times and not all townsmice appreciate your efforts, but many do.
Still, every Guardmouse needs to find within themselves some reason to go on,
to risk everything. What do you struggle for? I don't want players who will come into this thinking it is a D&D game with mice where the goal is to murder everything - that's not the kind of game this will be. You will be tiny, perhaps adorable, and the world is very large and scary. It will be more gritty survival-horror than high fantasy, and with it being a Burning-Wheel-family game, the beliefs and goals of the individual characters will drive much of the play. Rules knowledge not required, although experience with this, Burning Wheel, Torchbearer, or even the comics is a plus. But most important would be a sincere effort to get into the headspace of what the world would be like for a civilized mouse.
