Sessions 8&9 of PETA 10/25/16 and 11/1/16 Recap: The party convenes back at a bar in Krona Peek after a couple weeks of training. Mountain, who has returned from his own travels, is challenged by Chem to fight for the membership of the fighters guild. They both get good swings on each other but without his magic Chem is left helpless to Mountain’s pure strength. Fortunately both of them are allowed into the fighters guild by the referee. The party splits up to gather supplies, Chem and Elaine look for an alchemist to identify Chem’s potions while Mountain, Bristlecone and Lucian look for traveling gear. While they are searching, Bristlecone, Lucian and Mountain are confronted by Land- I mean Dander who gives them a donkey drawn cart and promises to uphold his deal with Elaine. Back with Elaine and Chem, the alchemist reveals that most of Chem’s potions are crap and only a few are worth noting, like a bottle that explodes when opened. Bristlecone, Lucian and Mountain find a general store for traveling and buy warm clothing, sled attachments for the cart and other survival equipment. The merchant offers to sell Bristlecone a feral wolf for a cheap price but Bristlecone kindly refuses and buys a group of pugs, one for each member of the party besides Elaine. The party reconvenes and heads West, crossing Lake Dark, passing through Havehollow and then, eventually, get to the Icetop Mountains. They are offered passage across the lake for a moderate amount and, while crossing, fog starts to grow and become more dense growing closer to Havehollow. Once at Havehollow the party rests in an inn before heading to the Icetop Mountains. While there they hear a song from a female bard about a powerful wizard with an even more powerful wand that killed him. The party talks to her and lo and behold the song is true and the wizard’s house is not too far away. The party has some initial doubts about the woman but say fuck it and head towards the house, except for Lucian who feels even worse because of his sickness so the party leaves him, Pinecone and a guard pug behind. Before entering the gate of the house Chem and Elaine realize Revina, the bard, is actually undead though she believes she is alive and does not know what they are talking about. The party enters the garden of the house hesitantly when a rhino appeared at the gate. The party ran through the front door, just avoiding the rhino who slammed against the wall with a large thud. The first room the party find themselves has two doors (which Elaine tells Mountain to immediately break down), a hallway and a starcase heading upstairs. The first door is held shut, as if someone were holding it from the other side, but Mountain makes quick work of opening it when they find only a skeleton and a skull are in the room. The skull had a symbol on it that Bristlecone recognizes as a phase of the moon. The party keeps the skull and goes down the hallway. They open the first door to the right which seems to be a game room, with a chess set, chairs and tables. The chess game appeared to be unfinished and Mountain was the one to solve it and open a secret compartment in the desk the chess set was on. Inside was another skull and a magnifying glass. The party moved back to the hallway and opened the door exactly opposite of the one they came out of which lead them to a dining area. A table was set with skeletons sitting around without their skulls. The party moved down towards the kitchen and find a room with a table of rotted meat and stone rats. Once they entered the rats turned from stone to flesh and some of the party turned to stone. This continued until all the rats were slain and the party sustained some injuries. They moved onto the next room, the kitchen and found 3 odd apples, one red, one yellow and one blue. Mountain begins to throw apples around at people, especially Elaine who was being a party pooper. Once these apples touched someone, though, it turned them into that color, causing Mountain to turn red and Elaine blue. Next they found a door to a pantry that opened to absolute darkness, which they let Bristlecone scout out with his spider wildshape. He discovered a still body, a couple potions and a skull but was unable to grab it. Chem went into the pantry to retrieve the skull by using his divine sense and was attacked by something in the dark. It did not leave too big of a mark on him though so he grabbed the skull and left before the creature could get a better hit on him. The party moved upstairs where a gust of wind pushed some of them back down the stairs when they tried to walk down the second floor hallway. The party moved to a side area where the wind did not reach them and found a couple doors. They entered the first door to the south which led to a bedroom with a table with a globe of an inferno on it, a glass chair, a bed and a door leading to a closet full of gems, which Chem instinctively threw the chair at, checking for traps…. They also found a key inside the desk and a trapdoor above the bed, leading to an attic. The party then moved to the second door to the East where they found a bathtub full of moss and fungus. They believed the tub was a monster so Rivena offered to bait the monster out while Mountain and Chem prepared to attack it. A tongue shout out at Rivena but Mountain chopped it in half before it could touch her. The tub wailed and then grew silent to which Mountain shoved his hand down and found a skull, but sadly since he changed colors the skull also changed to red, making the marking on it impossible to read. Mountain and Bristlecone entered a room that was connected to the bathroom which had a mirror in it that caused Bristlecone to go blind. They left the room and Bristlecone cast lesser restoration on himself to make the blindness end on himself. The party moved back down the stairs and entered the last door in the first floor hallway which led to a room full of butterflies. There was one jar with a gem in the room which Elaine grabbed and the party fled the room before the butterflies attacked them. They then moved back to the dining area where they found another skull under a plate. Moving up the entrance staircase and down the hallway the party was forced back again by a mysterious wind. They pushed forward to a hallway that was not affected by the wind and began to explore for more skulls. They entered the first door to the West and on entrance Chem was shrunk down to the size of a bug. A centipede spotted Chem and Chem begged his party to toss a rope so he could get out faster, because the door was about a mile away for Chem at this size. Mountain pulled out a rope and dragged the tiny Chem back out of the room with the centipede on his back the entire ride. They moved onto the next room and found it to be library with suits of armor, tables and scrolled on notes. They found a skull within the desk and a book with spells within it which they decided to leave. They moved onto the next room to the west which had a bed with dream catching shades around it. Chem entered the room and began to be able to read the thoughts of others in the hallway, to which he took the opportunity to ask Mountain one last time what really happened to Emery. Luckily for Mountain his thoughts were so confused by the question he gave away no information to Chem. They then entered the last room which turned some of the party invisible once they entered. This, though, led to Bristlecone and Lucian contracting the apple AID’s by accidentally bumping into Elaine and Mountain which changed them blue and red. Now with Chem as the skull holder, the party went back to the bedroom and went up the trapdoor to the addic. Once on the third floor they found an altar with Rivena’s corpse next to it with a skull in her hand. She retained her memories and told the party that she was forced by the wizard’s magic to trap adventurers within his home so the rooms could kill them. She disappeared and the party continued to look around for more skulls, hoping to find the last one for the puzzle. They found nothing but for a door that needed a special key to open and a bag of dust of appearance. The party went back to the shrinking room and lassoed the chest within the room into the hallway. They opened it and lo and behold the last skull was found inside. They went downstairs and started to arrange the skulls in the order of the moon, though they failed their first attempt and received a powerful shock from the room. The next attempt they succeeded and revealed a safe behind a painting of the moon which had trinkets and a moon shaped key. They went back to the addict and began to open the door…. They opened the door which lead to a room with two desks, a table and a unicorn horn wand. Elaine tried getting close to the wand when she was teleported to a different plain than the group. As Chem and Mountain were trying to figure out how the magic worked, Bristlecone tried to read the arcane symbols around the wand but was teleported to the same place that Elaine was trapped in. With the two tanks stuck trying to figure out magical entrapments, what could go wrong? Bristlecone and Elaine found themselves in an alternate version of the house where they could see everything but Chem and Mountain. Looking around they saw a body of a man in paladin attire lying motionless. They found an old wizard’s body being eaten by a zombie, to which Elaine started to hurl horrible insults at it, such as “You Fiend!” and “I will smite you!” The zombie then started to attack Elaine, even though Bristlecone was hurting it the most. Elaine was knocked down by the zombie and Bristlecone brought her back up and told her to fight, to which she was immediately knocked down again and eaten before Bristlecone’s eyes. Back in dump stat city, Chem and Mountain are still trying to figure out how to grab the wand. Chem comes up with the idea of throwing random shit at it until it falls or rolls of the table. He grabbed his javelins and he fired and he missed, and then he fired again and missed again, then he fired, then missed, then fired, then he missed, then he passed out, had a dream about firing at somthing, missed, woke up, grabbed another javelin, fired, missed, fired again missed…. Long story short, Missed. He then ran out of javelins and asked for Mountain to scoot around the wall and grab the javelins at the other side. Mountain did so and Chem then told him to start throwing them towards him. “At you” said Mountain “No, not at me at the wand” said Chem “Why at the wand?” “Because they will push it out” “But I’m right here, why can’t I grab it” A long pause and with a slap to his forehead Chem says, “Grab the fucking wand Mountain” And as easy as that Mountain grabbed the wand from behind the magic symbols and released Bristlecone and the corpse of Elaine from the other dimension. The group found a key on the dead wizard and put it into a chest that was in the wand room. Inside they found an amulet and some more trinkets. With Elaine lying on the ground motionless the remaining members of the group each grabbed a body, Chem with Elaine, Mountain with the mysterious man and Bristlecone with the wizard and went outside to bury them. While they waited for Lucian and Pinecone to arrive they also found in the pantry a tiefling holding a potted tree that looked almost like Bristlecone and Pinecone, only more burnt. Chem tied the Tiefling up and gave the potted tree to Pinecone and Bristlecone. As they were about to start burying people Rivera and the wizard appear in astral form on the porch of the house telling the party they can keep the house and its possessions, to which Chem goes back in and grabs the suit of armor in the library. While they were about to bury the paladin, his eyes opened and he introduced himself as Cyseal a paladin of the order of the sun. Before he could say anymore the tiefling woke up and Chem began to interrogate him, asking him why he was in the house and why he shouldn’t kill him right now. The tiefling said his name was Lucius and that he was once a human who was turned into a tiefling not too long ago. He said he was exploring the house like they were but was attacked by a doppelganger and dumped in a barrel. Chem allowed him to stay with the group if he could show that he can enter a city and not be detected while in it. Though he did not like this plan, Lucius agreed so that he could join the group. Finally the tree awoke and said that his name was Hive and that he is not the same as Bristlecone and Pinecone but he would still like to join the party, as long as there are things to burn. After burying Elaine Mountain came up to the group and told them that while he was traveling to Krona Peak alone he was informed that he might be the last of his clan so he has to travel alone to find out what has happened. The party agrees that this is something that Mountain needs to do alone and that he will be fine on his own. Chem says one last goodbye to his good friend Mountain and the party heads back to Havehollow. The party split off into three groups, Lucian and Bristlecone went off to buy a toy or entertainment item for Pinecone and to get their fortune read, Hive and Lucius went to go grab new clothing to hide Lucius and Chem and Cyseal went to find the guide who would lead them up the Icetop Mountain. Lucian and Bristlecone buy a dragon chess set for Pinecone and then went to a fortune teller for a reading. Lucian went first, hoping to find out anything about his illness and discovered that not only will his disease grow over time but it will also kill him very soon. She also told him that there may be something for him to find in Atur. The price for another reading was too high for Lucian’s liking and Bristlecone had no need to see his future so they left. Hive and Lucius found a clothing salesman and asked if they had anything that would fit either of them. The shop owner grew suspicious of Lucius and, seeing as he already had warm clothing, he decided to leave. Chem and Cyseal arrive at the guide’s home to find it swarmed by soldiers from Breland. Chem and Cyseal ask about why they are here and are told to talk to their captain who made the deal with the guide. Chem and Cyseal head into the soldier’s main tent and talk to the captain, offering to aid them in their quest up the mountain for a small fee of 2 gold. The captain agrees and tells them to meet him in the morning. The party meets back at an inn and discuss how everything went. Chem comes up with an idea to have him, Cyseal, Lucian and Lucius follow the soldiers up the mountain while Bristlecone, Hive and Pinecone follow from behind, though the strategizing is interrupted when some Breland soldiers start to get drunk off their stool and harass some bar maids. Chem saw this as the perfect opportunity to get the soldiers so hammered that they would not be able to go with them on their mission up the mountain, making it easier to grab the mask and run. Chem started to gain the trust of the soldiers through promises of ale and talked to the bartender about giving the soldiers an ale that would put them out quick. As he is doing this, though, a very drunk sir Land- Dander, starts a fight with the soldiers. Chem jumps in, trying to get Dander out of the bar before he is killed and helps the soldiers toss Dander out to the street. Bristlecone decided this would be the best time to teach Pinecone about how to help others and began to treat Dander in their cart. As most of the were getting hammered, one starts to head upstairs with a frantic looking maid. Chem challenges them to a drinking battle and lays 20 gold down for them to fight over. The soldiers agree but only if all of PETA joined in, so it was Lucius, Lucian, Chem and Cyseal against a group of Breland soldiers. By the end of the night, all the soldiers were passed out and the only one who won the drinking contest was Lucius. The next morning the party met up with the captain who had a large chunk of his men missing. They departed anyway with Chem, Cyseal, Lucian and Lucius following the soldiers and Bristlecone, Pinecone and Hive following from behind. Though soon after they left Chem finds Dander in the back of their cart, who begins to ask if he can join them on their mission, seeing as he is broke. The Breland soldiers recognize him and call him by his true name..... LANDER!!!!!! Chem realizes he has been fooled by the man who created the cult of Lander, the very cult that killed his best friend Tobias. The two men look into each others eyes as Chem challenges Lander to a duel.... TO THE DEATH! Tl;dr: The group head to Havehollow to get to the Icetop Mountains. In Havehollow they meet Rivira who tells them about a haunted wizard's house. The group heads there to see what is inside and to help the girl. Once they reached the house Chem and Elaine find out Rivira is dead (Though she doesn't know it) and they are all chased into the house by a rhino. They investigate rooms, finding skulls with signs of the moon in closets, chess sets, chests, tables, attics, bathtubs and dinner plates. They faced a swarm of rats in a room that changed everyone in it to stone one turn then back the next turn. Chem retrieved a skull from a kitchen closet, feeling a weak punch when entering. Mountain and Elaine had fun with color changing apples and the group found Rivira's corpse in the attic where she tells them she was forced to send people to their deaths. Eventually the group finds all the skulls and places them in the right order on the table and open up a portrait with a safe behind it where they find money and a key. They unlock the door in the attic and find a chest, some tables and a wand inside. Elaine and Bristlecone step towards the wand and are teleported to a place almost exactly like the house, but not. Chem and Mountain try to figure out how the wand did that and try to knock it away from the circle by throwing spears at it. A zombie attacks Elaine and though Bristlecone tried to help it eventually ate her. Chem finally realized all they had to do was grab the wand from behind and the circle wouldn't affect them, to which he took the wand and Bristlecone, Elaine, a zombie corpse and a knocked out paladin appeared. They mourned for Elaine, burying her outside the manor and saw the ghosts of the wizard and Rivira who said they could keep the house. They found a tiefling and a potted tree in a barrel in the kitchen closet and took them outside, Chem tying up the tiefling. Mountain gave his goodbye to the group revealing he needed to go back home because he might be the last of his clan. The paladin revealed himself to be Cyseal, order of the sun, the tiefling revealed himself as Lucius, a human turned tiefling, and the tree revealed himself as Hive, the pyro tree person. The party went to town to find the guide who was helping some men from the Benovian's homeland who also wanted the mask. Cyseal and Chem made a deal with the captain of the men to guard them as they ascend the mountain. The party meet at the bar, Chem gets a ton of the Benovian men drunk, Sir dander gets in a fight and loses and they head out the next morning without the wasted men tagging along. They devise a plan to have the treefolk follow from behind so that the soldiers won't kill them for being magic. As they are heading up, Dander pops out of the cart and tries to tag along when the soldiers notice him and call him by his name. Chem gets pissed and challenges Lander to a one on one fight to the death.
