Today you killed a dragon. Congratulations. The zombie fight that followed was very anti-climactic in comparison. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Today's session started on the South side of Thundertree where you had just finished a battle with the Giant spiders to recuperate the Arrow of Dragon Slaying that Reydoth had brought back with him from the druid circle and then lost when his Friend Cerdan was slain by the spiders. With arrow in hand the party went boldly North toward the Dragons lair, then stopped 30' from the Dragon itself and started to argue about what to do. Bryndon became an invisible scout as he went forward to spy out the tower. He brought back news of a back door. Unfortunately he didn't notice the spider webs covering the door. After much debate, a frontal assault was tried. Rook squeezed in through a window with everyone else following suit. (Except for Jarvin and Reydoth who stayed out side) Once inside the small square room adjacent to the tower, Rook opened the door that connected it to the tower. Upon opening the door the dragon, who had been listening to everything the party said for the last 15 minutes, was triggered and used his pending action to spew lethal poison gas on most of the party. Jabril dropped to 0 hp instantly. Bryndon was on the verge. Rook and Glanbir weathered the storm a little better, but unfortunately for the party, the dragon was first in the initiative order after his pending action. He lashed out at Rook with a deadly series of claws and a bite. Rook was left reeling and with very few hp. At the end of the first round, after Jarvin's turn, he took his legendary action, a tail attack against Jabril that dropped him to 0 hp agian. Then at turn order 20 he got a lair action and cut off the path of retreat for those in the tower with him by creating a 10' high 5' thick 60' long wall of thorns. Then it was his turn. He attacked Rook again and this time dropped him to 0 hp. Realizing that he couldn't see or cast through the Wall, Bryndon went south around it and found his rival wizard levitating in the air just below the arrow slit. Jarvin toyed with attacking through the slit and finally decided to float up to the top of the tower. He wouldn't make it this round but he started the journey. On the inside the battle continued. At one point the dragon thought victory was at hand and instead of trying to flee when he hit half hp, he surveyed the scene and saw one creature charmed by him and another unconscious, while only the Dwarven Cleric remained to confont him. This was his mistake, because on their turns, both Bryndon and Jarvin floated/flew up to the top of the tower. Seeing the threat was getting worse, Venomfang shot his poisonous breath up at the wizard Duo and Bryndon fell 40 failing a death save as he landed. Jarvin used his portent to pass his save and only took half damage leaving him near death, but alive. Now having to face the entire party because the cleric kept healing them, the dragon tried to get away. Jarvin used his second portent to have the dragon fail his save against THL. This kept his now adult form on the ground for another round and gave Bryndon a chance to get healed and then shoot the arrow of dragon slaying at the evil wyrm. Something gave him advantage, but it was negated by the fact the dragon was prone. He pulled his bowstring taut and released. The arrow hit its mark, the dragon made it's save and still the half damage was exactly how many hp it had left after accounting for the damage of the arrow itself. With this the party exhaled, and Glanbir started casting a prayer of healing. Bryndon, disdainful of the gods, kept butchering the beast trying to collect specimens to use in the future for potions. While these events unfolded, a new "threat" (though not much of one) appeared behind rook and called the party "a bunch of heretics." In traditional James Bond fashion, the Evil Villain announced his plans as he called back over his shoulder for one of his followers to prepare the scroll for resuscitating the "God." Years of martial training had honed the reflexes of the Monk, Jabril and he reacted first firing a bolt into the shoulder of the Cult leader. Their leader then drew his scimitar and sliced at the giant Rook. In retaliation Bryndon burned them all to ash, except two who would be either killed or captured by Rook on his turn. The captured cultist explained that they were bringing gifts to the "God" and hoping he would accept them into his service. Reydoth tried to lead the party to their hideout so that it could be cleared, but before he got there he mentioned the party should avoid the barracks to the North as it was a haven of undead. This set off the Life Cleric who, with the aid of his friends, opened the door and quickly destroyed all the zombies contained therein. Here is where we called the game. Dan had guest to entertain. I enjoyed the dragon fight. The party did well. You survived. I wish Alex could have been here, but this was never really his fight. He will have much more motivation once we reach Barovia. The Lord of Dawn will surely want Glanbir to illuminate that dark place. XP: 150 xp - 6 Dragon Cultist 5000 xp - Venomfang (Young-Adult Green Dragon) 250 xp - 5 Ash Zombies 5400 Total xp divided by 5 = 1080 xp each. Loot: 800 sp 350 gp Four silver goblets set with moonstones (60 gp each) Three diamonds (100 gp each). A potion of Flying A potion of Greater Healing. A scroll of misty step A scroll of lightning bolt Battleaxe +1. Runes in Dwarvish on the axe head read, "Hew," and the rust is misleading. Hew is a +1 battleaxe that deals maximum damage when the wielder hits a plant creature or an object made of wood. The axe's creator was a dwarf smith who feuded with the dryads of a forest where he cut firewood. Whoever carries the axe feels uneasy whenever he or she travels through a forest. Inspiration: Dan please take inspiration not only for your excellent portrayal of Jarvin, but also for taking the responsibility of playing someone else's character. Mike please take an inspiration for sticking with us even though you were experimenting your own technical difficulties. Also for playing Rook as we've come to know him. (Even if that isn't how you originally envisioned him) And for playing a second character after Han left. Stefis please take an inspiration also for playing Bryndon as he is written, a prick of a noble's bastard. We love you for it. Han please start Atlas with an inspiration for you helping out the group today by playing someone else's character. I hope you get your wifi sorted out, Jabril. We need you in the group. I will also be glad when Alex gets back from vacation. You guys have a good weekend and hit me in discord if you have any questions. Andy
