[LFG] DnD 5e GMT - Focussed on New Players

Hi all, I posted up a thread a few days ago so apologies if this feels a little similar. Having read through several threads and posts I've had time to reflect on what I am looking to get out of a RPG experience and hopefully can find a group of like minded players. First off, a little background; I'm a 30s-something guy from Edinburgh, Scotland. While I've never played DnD before, it's always been something that intrigued me. I've always had a love of the fantasy genre (be that through books, films or games) and love complete immersion in it where possible. Recently two of my friends and I discussed playing DnD at our semi-regular "boys nights" (which basically consists of beer and gaming) and I took away the action to investigate further. My initial goal was to learn how to play so I could create a great experience for the three of us however I now feel this is something I would want to do in my own spare time as well. - I'm fresh - I have no previous experience and would be looking to learn on the fly. Given that DnD is rule heavy, "frontloading" all the rules doesn't seem practical and learning on the go seems the way to go - To the point above, I don't think being flung into in depth role playing would be my immediate goal. A session where I can learn the mechanics and be comfortable with a new audience feels right (imagine there will be a lot of out of character questions like "how do I X?" and "Can I Y?") - Similar age demographic - without being disrespectful, I'd want to game with a group of players who "get" the trails and tribulations of adult life. I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's fun because I have a wife/young family that come first, so players who have similar backgrounds that appreciate this kind of stuff would be great - I've never used the Roll20 software before so a little patience while I get to grips with things (I run a data analytics team by trade so it shouldn't be too steep a learning curve!) Hopefully this isn't to bespoke what I'm looking for. If anyone is interested taking me into their game or group, please PM me and it will be great to chat things through. Kind regards, Andy
A few question that might clarify a few things: 1. What are you looking for setting wise?  - Ancient/Medieval/Modern/Future - High Fantasy/Low Fantasy/Realistic/High Tech/Low Tech - Alternative Reality/Post Apocalyptic/Normal World - Other? 2. What sort of tone are you looking for? - Grim and gritty/Serious/Loose/Silly - Good/Evil/In the middle 3. Would you prefer more character interaction, more character action (doesn't have to mean combat)? 4. What times would you be able to commit on which days? 5. Are you looking for something long term, short term or one-and-done? 6. Would you prefer games to be text only/audio only/audio and video? 7. Would you rather play in a larger group (6-8), regular group (4-5), small group (2-3) or a solo adventure?
Very good questions! I'll do my best to answer them; 1. What are you looking for setting wise? Medieval Fantasy or whatever constitutes as the Sword Coast realm  - Ancient/Medieval/Modern/Future - High Fantasy/Low Fantasy/Realistic/High Tech/Low Tech - Alternative Reality/Post Apocalyptic/Normal World - Other? 2. What sort of tone are you looking for? In terms of an adventure Grim & Gritty, in terms of a group, relaxed, open and friendly (good humour and banter) - Grim and gritty/Serious/Loose/Silly - Good/Evil/In the middle 3. Would you prefer more character interaction, more character action (doesn't have to mean combat)? A balance of both. Combat is exciting however character interacting also appeals to me (how would my character react in X situation) 4. What times would you be able to commit on which days? I am flexible on weekdays from 7pm GMT onwards. I would be willing to commit 1 night a week to gaming but could do more on occasion as well as at the weekend as long as things were planned reasonably well in advance (e.g. more than a weeks notice) 5. Are you looking for something long term, short term or one-and-done? Definitely long term. I used to play PC games like Guild Wars years ago and enjoyed having a cohort of people with a similar interest and I consider that part more important than the game itself. 6. Would you prefer games to be text only/audio only/audio and video? Good question that I didn't consider. Voice definitely, video probably. For me a good gaming session would involve free flowing conversation as you play and probably a beer or two ;-)  7. Would you rather play in a larger group (6-8), regular group (4-5), small group (2-3) or a solo adventure? Middle of the road 4-5 but I'm not precious about that. Hope this helps.
