Hi all, After much consideration and discussion, The other GMs and I have decided that we are going to eliminate the I.O.U. rule, which before now could be found in the Basic Rules thread: "What if I'm only 10 XP away from leveling up at the end of a session?" Because of the nature of this campaign, the GMs cannot keep track of every person's XP to give them nice round numbers. Therefore, we will use an I.O.U. system: If the XP you need to reach the next level is less than 50 x your level (e.g. less than 250 XP for going from level 5 to 6), you can level up your character. This does NOT mean that you just add in the extra XP. Instead, keep your XP total the same (below the leveling threshold) and just change the level of your character for the next session (adding any powers, feats, or features that may be relevant for that level). You then gain XP as normal." The main reasoning behind this change is that many people have gone from the attitude of "Darn! I'm 20 XP from leveling! Oh wait! IOU!!!" to the attitude "I only need another 200 XP to get into IOU range!" This shift in attitudes eliminates the reasoning for the IOU rule in the first place, since players have established a new arbitrary goalpost for their characters to reach, rather than using it as the take-a-penny-style system we intended. We figure that if we're going to use arbitrary goalposts for character advancement, it may as well be the ones that are built into the game and into the myth-weavers sheets, avoiding the messy addition of the I.O.U. system. Any characters that are currently advanced under I.O.U. may continue to use I.O.U to maintain their current level, but in the future, no player characters can advance to the next level without acquiring the requisite experience points. Questions about these changes can be asked in Guild Skype Chat or posted in the Questions thread. Good Hunting!
