Our story began in the military prison Sutter Gaol, where the disgraced Captain Albert Vessinger (a tiefling paladin played by Crispy) and ex-marine Constance Stormheart (an elf mystic played by Top Hat) were incarcerated for crimes against the Empire. Grand Admiral Molokai Kent visited his old friend Constance in the hopes of coaxing the secret location of her old pirate ship from her, but after a frustrating and insulting conversation, left promising he'd return. After biding his time for the Grand Admiral to depart, Vessinger proposed the two inmates enact their plan for escape. The two tricked one of the guards into approaching their cells, and, through the use of Constance's psionic lightning, slew him and effected their escape. They then sprang another prisoner in a nearby cell, and attempted to sneak through the prison. The attempt was for naught, and they were almost immediately found out by a group of guards in the adjoining hallway. The guards proved no match for our two "heroes" and their deaths were swift, though some chose to surrender and turn pirate. Albert and Constance freed the remaining prisoners in their cell block, and were told that Kelly "Killy" O'Dare was being held in solitary confinement near the guard's quarters. The gang successfully crept through the barracks wing and made their way to storage to reclaim their equipment before encountering the men guarding Kelly. Albert tried to bluff his way past posing as a prisoner being escorted by the defected guards, but the sword at his side and blood on his clothes gave him away and combat ensued. The first guard put up a fight and shouted for help, his voice echoing down the halls toward the sleeping shift, and a Constance incinerated the second before running to intercept any waking reinforcements. She took down a drowsy soldier as he stepped out of one of the sleeping chambers, then entered the room and shut the door. A bright flash was visible beneath the door, and the barracks went quiet. She emerged unharmed, and dragged the body out of the hallway while Albert saw to the remaining guard and freed Kelly. Arming herself with a massive rifle from storage, Kelly joined the gang as they proceeded to the administrative wing and the elevator leading out of Sutter Gaol. The bulk of the remaining on-duty guards chose to defect rather than die, though the warden was slain in his office. Albert and Constance operated the elevator, lowering the rest of the prisoners to the skyport below, then jumped after (Vessinger flying, and Constance using her psionic powers to resist the impact from her fall). On their way down, they heard shouting followed by an explosion, and they arrived to find the skyport in flaming ruins, the ragtag crew of prisoners and traitors standing on the deck of a small ship having fired its cannon on the guardhouse. The pirates set fire to the remaining powder stores, and sailed off with Sutter Gaol wracked by explosions behind them.
