Familiar Perception Traps

PATHFINDER 1. Can a familiar roll perception to find traps? 2. Does the master need ranks in disable device for the familiar to recognize the threat? 3. Before level 5 and the ability to speak with master, can the familiar accurately communicate the threat? 4. With an Int score of 6-7, does the familiar have the cognitive functions to do either of the above?

1) Yes, there is nothing in the rules to state otherwise and Familiars are a creature with it's own actions. 2) No: CRB p416, "Creatures that succeed on a Perception check detect a trap before it is triggered. The DC of this check depends on the trap itself Success generally indicates that the creature has detected the mechanism that activates the trap, such as a pressure plate, odd gears attached to a door handle, and the like. Beating this check by 5 or more also gives some indication of what the trap is designed to do. " 3) No, although there are exceptions such as with magic. Also: Raven's can speak. 4) Yes. Animal intelligence is 1-2. Familiars are far more intelligent than animals and are smarter than some PCs (using Point Buy the lowest score is a 7 but racial modifiers such as an Orc's -2 Intelligence can easily drop that to a 5. In short, familiars are not animals, they are intelligent magical beasts (CRB p82). They do not possess animal intelligence and are capable of human level thinking although their motivations may be different from humanoids (imagine yourself as an slightly dumber-than-human intelligent bird).
Thank you for the prompt and informative response.
