Please enjoy   X ) Nuri grew up in a human village, not so small that it is just a collection of houses but not so big that everyone doesn’t know each other. Never knowing his parents, he was cared for by the village elder. As he grew up, being a half-elf, the people of the village were generally untrusting. Because of his slenderer elfin frame, he was never as strong as the other kids, and the offset here was that, he often outpaced the others greatly in showings of dexterity. Because of these oddities and the general disdain that the adults held for him, his fellow children ridiculed and shunned him. When Nuri was around the age of ten, a young girl, named Amara, was brought to town: She had lost her family and needed a home. The elder volunteered to take her in. Nuri and Amara quickly formed a close bond and spent the next few years as close friends. The Elder, being a knowledgeable sort, saw fit to teach his wards. Nuri never was really interested in schooling, picked up some basic knowledge, whereas Amara loved the lessons and learned as much as she could. When Nuri was ridiculed, she backed him up. When she needed a hand, he was always there to help. As they grew up together, Nuri and Amara’s relationship grew. While they never were never lovers or romantic, they were closer than just friends. One day, when they were both around the age of 16, Nuri’s life changed forever. Amara had dragged Nuri into the local forest in search of some special flower that she had heard about from some passing traveler. While he was helping her look for it, they started to hear a commotion in the woods nearby. Looking to see what it was, they saw a monster scrambling through the forest. It was severely injured, they could see that it had many fresh wounds. It didn’t see them immediately for it was more focused of running away from something; but when it did, it quickly veered toward them. Grabbing Amara, Nuri did his best to escape from the thing, but despite its injuries it was able to catch them, knocking Nuri out of the way and grabbing Amara. As Amara struggled in its grasp, Nuri pulled the dagger from his belt and attempted to swipe at the beast figuring that with its injuries he could save her from it. With one of its free limbs, it easily batted the untrained Nuri away while sending the dagger flying off some ware into the forest. As the bruised Nuri gets back up he sees the monster begin to bite down on Amara. Her scream is so bloodcurdlingly loud and with the horror of the scene before him, something inside Nuri snaps. Suddenly, a fiery aura erupts from the boy as glowing scales begin to appear on his skin; “Let Her Go!” he yells, engaged. The monster stops what he was doing, his mouth lost its grip on Amara: she was injured, bleeding, and terrified but still alive. Knowing that this was his chance, he let out a war cry, which sounded more like a roar, and rushed the monster while it’s guard was down. Hardly realizing what he was doing, he created a fireball in his hand and slammed it into the monster’s chest. The ensuing explosion sent the monster reeling, causing it to let go of Amara, as it fell over clutching at its charred chest: dead. As the beast lay where it fell, Nuri, now drained and battered, rushed over to where Amara had fallen. The injury she had received from the monster was a painful one, but one that she could recover from in time. The greater damage had been from the blast of the fireball that Nuri had used. The bleeding had been cauterized by the flame, but as well, substantial portions of her skin were severely burned. As Nuri took in these sites on his friend’s unconscious body, a few adventurers burst into the clearing. As they looked at the scene before them, the monster they had been chasing, dead on the ground, and a young boy with blazing scales fading on his skin kneeling next to a scarred and burned young girl, Nuri looks up to them and says with complete remorse and shame; “Please… help her.” The adventures, understanding what had happened, took up Amara and asked Nuri to lead them back to town. Once they return to town, Nuri lead them to a place which is the equivalent of a hospital for a town of that size. Taking Amara inside the adventurers did everything they needed to help her, they even popped a healing potion for her. While this was happening, the townsfolk had gathered around to see what was happening; they were muttering among themselves: “Nuri did that!” “He blasted her with fire!” “What a monster.” During all the commotion, Nuri ran home. For a while, he cried. Partly because he was so scared about what had happened, but more so about what he had done to his friend. Eventually deciding that he needed to leave, he gathered up some gear hastily and was making his way out the door when he was stopped by the sight of the elder slumped in his chair. The elders knowing stare was fixed on Nuri with grief. “I knew it would happen soon, but never like this”, he muttered forlongingly. Racked with guilt and sadness, “You can’t stop me!” Nuri declared. “Do what you must”, The elder sighed with a deep sadness, “But don’t leave without a goodbye.” Nuri hesitated for just a second before he rushed into the awaiting arms of the elder, crying. “don’t cry”, the elder said after a minute, pulling back to say with passion, “you have your fathers compassion and heart, and your mothers form and fire; you are going to do GREAT THINGS.” Nuri says nothing, as tears well up into his eyes, he turns and runs away. Nuri traveled for a long time, avoiding other people, before he eventually found an old abandon hut near a river. Seeing as no one had lived there for years, he figured that no one would mind if he stayed for a little while. Days turned into weeks, weeks to months, months to seasons, seasons to years. During this time, Nuri found the arcane focus the elder had slipped into his pack which helped him learn to control his powers, he also trained with other skills like with his dagger, stealth, and making life saving potions. He also discovered that when he attempted to cast fire based spells, that he couldn’t do it. He could conjure a little flame for the purposes of lighting a campfire, but beyond that, he couldn’t. Eventually he figured that there was little more he could learn by himself just hunkering in the woods. He decided to finally return to the world and make up for his past failures by doing what he could for others. I hope you enjoyed the origin of Nuri, The Draconic Sorcerer. I look forward to seeing where life takes him  X ) My availability for games is mostly going to be around 9 p.m. ET any day of the week. I'm open for other time slots too but those are my most open.
