need help with macros

hi there,im a fairly new dm,and i was wondering if its possible to make a macro that makes it type in different names when using /as? for example, if i click it once the character typing in chat would be xname: dialogue.but if i click it again,the character in chat would be yname: dialogue.

There are a couple of options here, you could either use a query with pre-defined options (surround the 'who' aspect with "" to account for names with gaps in them): /as "?{Who|Bob|Tom|Fred|Alice|Queen Millie}" ?{What to say} etc... or you if you have tokens with those names available and will only ever want to talk 'as' one of them you could use the @{target... syntax: /as "@{target|token_name}" ?{What to say}
but what if i'm trying to use a lot of names? like,20+ names?

Depends on your use case really, if there are tokens then the @{target... syntax will work best. Without tokens you'll have to use a query but if you want a free text version and just type the name each time you can use: /as "?{Who}" ?{What to say}
I see,thanks.

hi guys! gonna just use thread instead of creating a new one, got a tiny bit o a question, so i've been learning macros for like a week, got pretty good (lots of free time) and i was just wondering how can i make an specific macro display the target name? /me the captain cleaves with imposible strenght [[1d100+@{target|character_name|defense}]] [[1d100+@{target|character_name|defense}]] ACC 90 [[1d20]] damage for each /w gm [[1d80]] vs @{target|character_name|stun resistance} vs @{target|character_name|stun resistance} that is basically the macro, now is nothing important really but since im trying to use multiple targets macros i cant seem to make it display the target! D: that is all thanks in advance for any help c: lefbereth.
wait a minute, i did it, it now look like this, if somebody ever needs it /me the captain cleaves with imposible strenght [[1d100+@{target|target1|defense}, from @{target|target1|character_name}]] [[1d100+@{target|target2|defense}, from @{target|target2|character_name}]]ACC 90 [[1d20]] damage for each /w gm [[1d80]] vs @{target|target1|stun resistance}, from @{target|target1|character_name} vs @{target|target2|stun resistance}, from @{target|target2|character_name}
