Session 4 Log: Sunday July 16, 2017

Welcome Granny Hatchet! Played by Christie (AKA Xie) As the party comes downstairs to regroup in the Stonehill Inn they encounter an elderly halfling paladin that had previously worked with Steve Darkmagic. After a brief introduction the halfling, Granny Hatchet, agrees to join the party as they seek to rid Phandalin of the Redbrand menace. Based upon some tips that  Recto recently received , the party heads down to Alderleaf Farm to learn what they can from Qelline and her son, Carp. After employing the sophisticated strategy of vacillating between being cordial and terrifying, the party learns that there may be a secret entrance to the Redbrands' hideout near the ruins of Tresendar Manor. They also learn that the druid Reidoth may well know the way to Cragmaw Castle and can be found in the ruins of Thundertree, the hometown of our own Recto. Recto informs the party that he has reason to believe Thundertree is now home to a dragon that the party would likely have to deal with should they wish to explore the town. The party makes their way to the Tresendar Manor and eventually finds their way into the hideout below. The party finds itself in a large cavern that has been converted into a hideout by the Redbrand bandits. A 20-foot crevasse streaks across the cavern and houses a Nothic, which attacks the party. Steve Darkmagic manages to trigger a trap on the bridge he is crossing while fighting the Nothic and tumbles into the crevasse below. The rest of the party fights on and eventually Garad kills the weakened Nothic by tossing it to the bottom of the crevasse. As Steve makes his way back up to meet the party he stumbles upon the Nothic's trove of treasure (discussed below) that had been secreted away below the northern bridge. The party then makes their way west donning the crimson cloaks of the Redbrands. They stumble into the wizard Glasstaff's private library and kill his rat familiar, alerting the wizard to their presence. They enter Glasstaff's personal quarters just after the wizard made his escape through a secret passage back to the surface. Phat Loots 160 silver 120 gold 5x malachite gems (15gp each) 2x potions of healing scroll of augury a +1 longsword The sword is encased in a silver-chased scabbard and is inscribed with the name "Talon," and its hilt is worked in the shape of a bird of prey with outspread wings. Feel free to work together to distribute the loot in the thread below. Reminder: also make your MVP nominations below!
You guys want to split the gold up evenly 6 ways?  For each person: 20 Gold 26 silver I dont' have any need for the longsword. I'd like to put my name in for one of the healing potions. I'll pass on the Scroll I'll pass on the gems for now as well.
I'm good on splitting the loot and I already have one healing potion so I'd advocate giving the potions to those who don't already have them from the last thing we did. I'd like to nominate myself or Rolen for the scroll of Augury since I think we'll probably be primary scouts in the future.  I don't care who gets the sword, probably give it to someone who uses a sword...I nominate Rolen for MVP for sniffing out our cave entrance and for trying to help a guy who fell into a crevasse.
I nominate Garad for MVP.   He opened the manhole cover. He came up with the Chewbacca plan. He killed the one thing we fought. He saved my life with his inspiration point.

Splitting the coins evenly is the way to go. We can either liquidate the gems (next town session) or hang onto them for use as bribes. BTW Troy, are they cut or uncut? (i.e. could be potentially improve their value if we find a gemcutter, or am I being too old-school :p) I'll let everyone else have a healing potion before taking one, I already have Lay On Hands et al. Pass on scroll obv. Next town session we should get Talon identified (do at least one of Darkmagic and Doom Spark have identify?). But unless it's enchanted to be a finesse weapon, It's too heavy for Granny's arthritis - i.e Garad can have it. Alternatively, it may be a valuable item to liquidate, or if it belongs to some Lord or something we might get a reward for its return - a lot depends on a detect magic/identify/history check. Nominations! - Garad for some sweet WWE action, and the Chewbacca plan - Rolen for some solid RP, and for being a team player - Steve for making me LMAO
