3D interactive mapping

I am sure this has been suggested but this would so be a great idea if I could take a map, add elements then make it 3d like a video game but not too in depth as to make it so pple have a hard time using it. With interactive mapping people would have fun and heck I would even pay for a monthly sub just to get the chance to use it.
Artistic optical illusions could give the impression of depth to a 3D degree. Smart use of shading tiles and so forth help too.

I'm not too certain of how to go about it, but I'd like to do this. I have a bit of experience modeling for videogames, and graduated with a degree in media arts and animation. Creating a 3D version of Roll20's amazing 'tabletop' is something I've thought about for a while and discussed with my group. Would it be possible to partner with Roll20 to create this? Maybe get it launched through Kickstarter? I'd be willing to devote every free minute I have towards creating this if people were willing to support the project. COME TO ME MINIONS, AND POUR FORTH YOUR IDEAS! Seriously though, I want this to happen. Anyone on here have programming experience? >_> Edit: If anyone were actually interested, please PM me or respond here. Some of my work can be seen on my site which is in my bio. Profile avatar is relevant; I thoroughly enjoy creating monstrosities. :D
This would be so sexy I have no knowledge but just thought it would be kind of neat. Only thing I wonder about is how would the program work when people use custom maps like me. Would be neat if the program could read the map, then make it 3d and then have on the fly changes from the Dm. Just me spit balling and all

I know using the Sims 3 builder it can be possable to build your own D@D adventure just would need EA to relase the coding from the sims 3 and then be able to convert it from the sims 3 modeling to a open world builder once that is done it would be possable to build every building and detail in a 3d base
I was thinking the program could be a kind of level designer with easy controls, that the GM would have complete control over. He would decide when to 'activate' events, and so on. Each player could customize their investigator's appearance(within reason of course). I'm wondering if it would be possible with the help of Roll20 to use a good portion of their programming and mechanics in it since it's already so well done in the Roll20 app. :/
I support, but theres even more cool thing we can do with this like make your own tokens and stuff
also, this well come in handy for a game like Wolsung

Considering that there's a lot of Roll20 users out there who currently can't even use the 3D Dice without their browser melting, I don't know how feasible this would be. The biggest problem with 3D in a browser is that you're running a 3D engine IN your browser. This isn't utilizing OpenGL or something similar. It's using http://threejs.org/ to handle everything. As you can see by the test examples presented on their website you might find your own browser might be having a lot of trouble handling them in a swift manner. Model creation isn't really a problem nor is implementing a 3D playspace (in the scheme of things anyway, it's still a ton of work to implement). The biggest problem that I can see is that you'd be dramatically reducing the number of Roll20 users who can actually play your game. Their computer physically couldn't handle opening up your map.
they could make it a download.

That would go against the entire design of Roll20, which is meant to be cross-platform (browser-based) and made easy to connect with your friends (video/voice chat).
hmm, that is a problem
you could make it a API...
