Player Preference Check

Good afternoon! I'm about to start plotting a campaign.  There are two ways I can write it, and I'd like to see what opinions I can gather on how I should go about it.  Without giving too much away, it can be either: The player characters are good or neutral, as in usual games.  They work through the storyline to uncover the master through roleplaying and detective work.  OR, The players are evil-aligned, knowingly working for the forces of evil and trying to foil the good guys who are bent on stopping them. If it were you, which game would you rather play? Thanks!
Mystery is tough to write, good luck.  I always go for cooperative play, never evil.
Evil does not means there is a lack of cooperation, it's more that often you get the stupid evil character alignment. I honestly prefer to play in settings where no restrictions to aligments are imposed but rather that regardless of alignment you are not gonna be a dick to the party and blame it on the alignment.
Detective work would be a good start.
A good mystery and noir style detective game can be alot of fun. I'd recommend going that route.
