Only War- Looking for Immersive Players/Writers (3+ Spots Open)

I run a lore accurate, written/text Campaign (with maps, of course), where character interactions are written out similar to standard forum or virtual roleplay for the Warhammer 40k Game Only War. These games are high fidelity, with professionally drawn assets (from maps to unit icons) and a published writer contributing to the content of our story. Much money and time has gone into this game, and I am currently seeking players to participate to provide a 'return' to the investment, since as school and life began to start up again, we have several vacancies in our player base (3+). The Story is based around the Imperial Guard Drop Regiment the 99th Samhan "Suicide Kings" in the the 38th Millennium. _______________________ SCHEDULE/AGE REQUIREMENT We are currently looking for mature, 18 year old+ players who can play Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, in the afternoon/evenings in US Standard Eastern Time. (We have flexible scheduling, and sometimes skirmishes mid-week) -We are open to players of the age of 17 provided they contact me first. This is a mature game run by working adults, and allowing people below the age stated above has proven disruptive in the past. DICE & ROLEPLAY Combat is handled on voice (namely discord) with the standard "Only War" ruleset (for expediency), but the average player is expected to be able to write at least 1-3 sentences, with punctuation and grammer, in order to play a realistic, fluid character that grows, evolves, gets scared, and contributes to the setting. Players are expected to know that it is a -LORE ACCURATE- game. Meaning that the players are -soldiers-, and not heroes (not that they can not rise to this lofty goal...)... as such, the Characters run a very real risk of death, and while I make it a point not to go too hard on players (given the story is no fun if the characters keep dying), the Dice are fickle things, and death can come swiftly. This means that they will be, in the scope of the lore, treated no differently than the average frontline infantryman. -Players are expected to understand the consequences of actions. If a Character is protecting the squad from charging orks and orders them to retreat, then stays behind to try to be the big hero, there will be no pity if/(and infinitely more likely) when they are hacked to mincemeat, and players -are- expected to handle such situations maturely OOC- Players are expected to play their character in a realistic, sensible fashion. That means that if a dropship is on fire and plummeting to the Earth, it would be breaking immersion for them to treat such a terrifying situation as a joke. Characters who mouth off to an NPC Commissar, for example, will likely be flogged, if not shot. Roleplay is done on Discord Text on a private server as often or as little as desired between games, aside from the usual RP during the game proper. -If you are looking for a light hearted romp with ass-slapping Sergeant Majors, NPC's who will let you walk all over them, preferential treatment because your character is a PC, or simply wish to ignore one or more unpleasant aspects of the lore in the 40k Universe, -this is not the game for you-. Players have been moved to tears due to the content of the story.- _____________ If none of these would prevent you from enjoying an epic, immersive experience in the 41st Millennium, I can be contacted here, but preferably on Discord at TheIncredibleRory#1992 or on Gmail at RoryPike6197@gmail.com . As long as this listing is up, we will be looking for players. The Campaign has -just- started, so it isn't too late to get involved. I can be reached for any additional questions and concerns. -If you are looking for a light hearted romp with ass-slapping Sergeant Majors, NPC's who will let you walk all over them, or simply wish to ignore one or more unpleasant aspects of the lore in the 40k Universe, -this is not the game for you-. The setting is not something I'm interested in but I just want to say this is well written out and I wish you a great deal of luck. If you ever had another endeavor with a different setting I know I'd have a greater interest!
Well, we do also do Shadowrun sometimes :) In the same style of immersion and text, of course. -But-, while I'm open to messages about such, I'm primarily looking for Only War players!
I'd be interested in joining in on this, I haven't played too many games of Only War but I am very interested in a more lore accurate experience.
This sounds pretty great, man. However, I have a Saturday game, a Sunday game by a first-time GM who I am trying to help, and and attempting to run my own game on Thursday nights. I believe I will be too busy to give this the proper attention it deserves. Thank you for the opportunity!
Generally, the games are on either Sunday or Monday! At least the big, plot-intensive, or epic scaled ones. -But-, if you're Co-GM'ing and GM'ing a game and playing one, you might find it a little taxing! However, we frequently have cancellations or could use an extra player! While we are -primarily- looking for regular players, we'd be more than happy to have a substitute or two as well :)
I am incredibly interested In trying this out. I already have a list of characters that I am wanting to try and am open to fitting the needs of the party! Hope to hear from you soon to discuss the game date. I hope it'll be at a time I'm most available
I'm interested should time/schedule allow. What are the time(s) you start the sessions?

We're still open to taking a few more! Just one thing worth of note, since many people had wanted to Transplant Characters. This is a game of Only War that does -not- take place in the 41st Millenium. It's actually in the 37th! That means, among other things... -Krieg is still a lovely place to live, and has not yet been turned into the land of Atomic Bombia. -Savlar has not began to produce regiments yet (I can't find records, but it's safe to say it might not even be settled) -Guilliman is NOT back -No Sabbat Worlds Crusade has taken place -No Macharian Crusade has taken place -If- you do wish to join and transplant a character, please keep this in mind! ____ As far as scheduling details... Roleplay in the groups Discord Channel is -always- open. Find someone to play with or PM other players, and start something! Just make sure it's at least somewhat germane to the situation! Don't be getting drinks in bars if you're currently trapped in an ancient city being pursued by dark eldar! We sometimes have a skirmish during mid-week, if I or the other GM can find the time. Skirmish games are for the killing, for side missions to expand upon plots in-world, or just because everyone wants something to do but doesn't need an epic narrarative. The big games are generally over the weekend, we plan every week, it's either on Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday, with Sats, Sundays, and Monday the most common days. Friday/Saturday sessions tend to start around 6-8 PM Eastern Standard, same for weekly skirmishes Sunday/Monday sessions tend to start anywhere from 12PM to 6 PM. Again, players are contacted a week in advance in order to schedule. If we have more players attending than is comfortable, we might have multiple games since our story follows a "Platoon", not a squad. Skirmish Sessions can last from one to three hours. Story Sessions can last up to four hours for the most intensive missions, and may end up being split into two-parts for purposes of scheduling.
My schedule won't allow for play in this. Seems amazing though. Good luck.

Looks fascinating, but the timing just doesn't work. Best of luck.
This sounds exceptionally interesting and I am tempted by it, however, the timezones could be an issue (I am 4 hours ahead). Would that be workable? I am available most weekends. Final question; is this back to being similar to the old RPG forum type of adventure or is there a client thrown in to boot?
Narrarator; four hours ahead is no big deal. We have players from Estonia, The United Kingdom, the United States (all timezones), Denmark, Belgium, Germany, and Singapore. Generally, our "Story" Missions, unless prevented by lack of available players ( a very rare occurrence, since our story is on platoon rather than squad level) or holidays (Independence Day, Armistice Day, Christmas, Anzac Day, etc) will be on Saturday Night after 6:PM US Eastern (10 PM your time), or Sundays or Mondays between 4:00PM your time and 8:00PM your time. The date for Story Progression Missions are not fixed, and are voted upon week-to-week for best availability. Sometimes, as the game is Platoon Level, we might run two different missions for two different 'Squads' if we have enough people to participate the next-available day. These generally will be two teams being active during the same time, but focusing upon different aspects or points of view from the ongoing plot. In addition, we have Roleplay available 24/7 whenever there are players or myself available on the Discord. The only problem you might come across is 'Skirmish' Games, which are either done to expand upon sub-plots, player ideas for missions, or minor to major engagements not pertinent to the progression of the story. These are generally held on weekdays after 6:30 PM Eastern Time, and are done via request by three to five players or offered by a GM. These typically last from one to two hours, though all events that transpire during skirmishes are considered canon and in character. The point of these missions is for fun, so although you can still be killed during one of these mission (and players often are, skirmishes oddly enough have high player casualty rates), participating in such will not yield any gameplay benefit in terms of the mechanics. In short, our roleplay during games is done on roll 20. We are on Voice on Discord during these games to make fun of each others misfortune, quickly communicate information that might take a little too long to communicate IC, and quickly answer combat-related questions in terms of the Roll20 Mechanics. RP outside of Roll20 Sessions is done in a very similar method to RPG Forum, we are currently installing Dice Bots in order to allow for some expanded functionality in our discord.
