Greetings!

I've sent out invitations to several players, so hopefully we can get started soon. You can use this thread to introduce yourself and discuss what sorts of characters you plan on playing. Several of you don't have experience with TOR. For your character generation, I can either prepare something for you, or you might want to check out the character generator at http://azrapse.es/tor/sheet.html . I'm currently setting up macros and dice rollers that should hopefully make the game run smoothly. Be sure to provide an image of your character that can be used to make a token.
Hi. I'm Ken. Long time lover of all things Tolkien and LOTR but first time TOR player. I'm an older semi retired gent who has always loved getting together with likeminded lovers of roleplay to wile away a few hours. It's a very enjoyable pastime that has never got old. Not yet anyway (touch wood)! I don't mind what I play character wise. I'll likely grab a rule book PDF. It has good reviews. At this stage I'm thinking a woodsmen or a merchant from the Dalelands.
Hi, I'm Poison. Also a lover of all things Tolkien since I read the books when I was little. I've played 2 games of TOR, one was for a few months, so I have a pretty good feel for how it goes, and I've posted my character idea already, who can do a little bit of all the travel skills, can keep up heart through song, and is an excellent hunter and very stealthy. I'm also really easy going, and easy to get along with =)
If you're interested in being a trader-type, the Men of the Lake Culture would probably fit very well. Please remember that this is a campaign revolving around Mirkwood, so your characters will need a reason to be in the region and, more importantly, care about what happens there. This is easier for those who actually reside in the area, such as Woodmen or Elves of Mirkwood, but will need a bit more justification if you're from far off.
Hello everyone. I'm Bryan. I love the Tolkien Universe. I started off running a game of Adventures in Middle-Earth and that led me to explore its predecessor, TOR. I really like this system more and can't wait to play! Personally, I play a lot of RPGs and board games and a huge fantasy fan. Professionally I am a US Marine so I naturally enjoy playing combat type characters. I haven't yet decided on my character, I am stuck between a dwarf or a Man of Rohan. If I choose Rohan, I will have a reason he is in the north. Story and character to follow.
Cool, nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you all too! As a note, I think I'm gonna go with Man of Rohan, Wanderer. Im gonna take the outcast background and am thinking of a sort of Jorah Mormont type of character. Basically some crime he committed (or was framed for) got his cast out of Rohan and now he wanders Wilderland and has made his way north, seeking a way to redeem himself or get back in Thengel's good graces.
Sounds fun!
Hi Bryan, good to meet you too.
Okay, thanks for getting your characters in. There are a couple of players I invited who haven't responded yet. I'll finish setting up the macros and such over the weekend and then we'll see where we are. We should also talk about game scheduling. Would people prefer weekly or biweekly game sessions? Saturday evening is best for me but I can do Fridays as well.

Hey! My name is Angel and I've always had a fondness for Tolkien since I read the hobbit as a child. I am thinking of playing a Beorning storyteller. or a dwarf.

Fridays are pretty good for me, maybe Saturday also. Hi Angel =)
Friday's and/or Sat suit me.

Saturdays suit me just dandy. Hey poison :D also, will make my sheet when I have time.
I think for me both will work, just no guarantee on one being better than the other. My schedule tends to fluctuate. As well, from September 6- September 21 im on vacation and wont be on here probably at all. But as long as we have a first session in, that shouldn't be a problem I hope. Up to the Loremaster of course.
I've created character sheets and tokens for all the characters who have been submitted so far. You'll probably want to check over them and make sure they're accurate. Also, none of the submitted characters have listings for what kind of armor or other protective gear you're wearing, so that will be needed too.
Armor? Lol, I dont wear any silly armor.
I wasn't sure what sort of equipment we would have access to. How is mundane equipment dealt with in the game? I'm happy to have whatever equipment the GM thinks appropriate for the character.
You begin the game with one of each weapon you're skilled in, as well as your choice of one suit of armor, one shield, and one headgear. You can also have a musical instrument if you have Song 1 or more. Most other mundane stuff is just lumped into the traveling gear. (I am not from the Count Every Iron Spike and Copper Piece school of DMing.) You'll probably want at least some light armor if you're planning to take Linden into melee, and maybe headgear as well. Your Wits (and therefore your Parry score) are pretty good, so a shield may not be necessary, especially if you're planning to wield your axe two-handed.
I definitely have a musical instrument, and thats in addition to my lovely singing voice. =) Also, I'm Minstrel-sy =)

Do any of you happen to have a picture of a young clean shaven man wearing hide armor and wielding a spear? Preferably not in an animesque artstyle. I can't seem to find any, well any that are male.
Hi Angel. The hide armour seems to be a limiting point. Here are 4 of the best I found. The closest pic is the half orc. If you could file off the teeth the pic would seem to fit.
None are right on but the best I could see. The ones with hide armour had other weapons. The other spear carriers had metal or plate armour and some had shields.
Thanks, the half orc one does look pretty good. It's a pity I am garbage at photoshop. I might just switch the gender to female, found a few that are fairly accurate.
I looked through my stuff, but no men with spears, let alone spears and hide! Might there be a movie shot from LOTR with such a thing I wonder?
anyone else joining?
It appears not. Perhaps we can plan to have our first in-person session this Saturday night at 8 EST? Edited to add: I should have checked my messages before I posted this. It looks as if we're going to have one last Companion joining us, Oliver K. Also, one last thing to consider: whether you want to have any connection between your characters beforehand, and whether you want to take another PC as a Fellowship Focus.

I would be down for that
I am down for connections with anyone, and everyone, as a partier, reveller, and warden, I get around!
I'm down for connections too.

I like the idea that I met Gerlinde Redmane in my travels and was drawn to her leadership and strength and are old friends. They also probably enjoy sharing tales of old.
As far as connections to everyone else, I feel that Brywn has probably met everyone once as he is well traveled in the region. He probably likes the hunter Linden for his skill as a hunter. What will be interesting is to develop just how he interacts with an elf of the "scary elven wood". As I understand it, the Rohirrim going way back to when they lived in Northern Anduin have always treated the woods and the elves within it with nervousness and unease. I think maybe Brywn's journeys have lessened that but he still maintains that sense of wariness of the woods and the folk who dwell there. However, I am sure his love of song allows him to respect Horalia over his insecurity towards wood elves. We shall see.
I can do Saturday night, but depending on how long the session would go, it would work best for me if we can start earlier like maybe 7pm? That's if the session is gonna be more than 3 hours.
Remember Horalia isn't a mirkwood elf anymore. She's been denounced by the king, and further, refuses to sail to the west. She engages in parties, song and other revels.
looks good to me!
7 pm Saturday is all right for me. I generally aim for 4 hours per session, possibly more if everyone feels up to it.
Oliver, if you want to participate in Saturday's game session, please submit a character so I can make sure it's properly set up.
So I got an email yesterday telling me I have to be at work Saturdays at the job site I am at. unless changing the time is an option, I won't be able to do the weekly/biweekly sessions. although I can still pbp.
Hi guys. We using discord or roll20 chat?
Doh!! Text only. I should have looked before posting and setting of a little bell in my head.
lol. also, I didn't see anyone in the roll 20 editor.
... yikes. I put the game time for 7:00 AM, not 7:00 PM, which is what it SHOULD have been. Sorry folks.

LOL. My typing will probably be sporadic at that time, taking family out to dinner.
in funny news, I saw 8 am start and thought, "Oh, either I made a mistake, and cant ever attend, or, it means 8 pm..." hehe
Hello, I've finally joined the discussion. I'm an illustrator from South Africa, living and working in Australia. To confirm, the Next Game is Sunday August 27 8:30AM GMT+9:30 (3 days from now)? I'll make sure to get my character created by then. I've recently bought the TOR Core Book along with Tales of Wilderland, Rivendell and Laketown. I've yet to actually play it. I come from playing Vampire the Masquerade a few times and a little bit of DND.
Welcome to the game! Looking forward to having you join!
I always loved the story telling in Vampire the Masquerade. Hunted and haunted was one of those flaws the whole party could enjoy.
Hi Oliver. In my home time zone (Eastern / GMT -4), the next game session is 7:00 PM on Saturday the 26th, which if you're at GMT +9:30, should indeed convert to Sunday the 27th at 8:30 AM.
All good, thanks Christopher. I'll just skip church this week. My wife has agreed to take the kids without me. Looking forward the the campaign.
Hi Chris and party. I would like to start attending the sessions weekly instead of every other week. Is there room to move the starting time to 3:30pm GMT -4? That will allow me to time to creep out of bed at 5:00am GMT +9:30 and join you in Middle Earth. Then sneak back again before anyone knows I have left.
lol I don't mind.
