CLOSED: LFP: "FATE Firefly" (one shots; Thursday; 7:30-10:30, EST; Skype)

Noob GM and two noob players (Fate noobs, lots of experience Pathfinder/D&D/Savage Worlds), looking for some players to drop-in for a series of one-shot games on Thursday night. We'd be looking for up to 2 players each Thursday. You're committing to just a one shot. We're hoping for some semi-experienced players who can maybe help us wrap our heads around this quirky game. Basic details on the game here: FATE Firefly If interested in playing, drop a note here and tell us (1) Your expeirence with Fate and (2) Your idea for a character.
I'm interested in playing in your Thursday night's game. Time (and timezone) works for me. Since the Fate Core Kickstarter I have played and GMed A LOT of Fate-based games (Fate Core and Fate Accelerated). Most frequently I run and play in science-fiction settings of the groups' own designs, but in adaptations of Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and Firefly, too. Other Fate games I really like and regularly run are Atomic Robo RPG (my all-time favorite Fate-based RPG), Jadepunk, Dresden Files Accelerated and most of the Fate Worlds of Adventures settings. Firefly I have run using my own Savage Worlds adaptation well before the Cortex (old) based Serenity RPG was published, I have run Serenity RPG a few times, as well as the current Firefly RPG (based on Cortex Plus Action). I have run Firefly using Fate Core as well as Fate Accelerated . As a character concept I'd like to play an elderly frontier doctor, who has been around the rim for quite a while, worked under less than optimal conditions to keep people alive. He is a tough old bastard. His bedside manners are rough, his manners elsewhere even less polished. He is a pragmatic survivor, one that made hard decisions all his life. He is better with animals than with human patients - at least the animals complain less. He knows a lot of people he had patched up one time or the other. Are the characters given on the linked page still the current crew? - Is someone playing the captain? (In my experience in running Firefly with different rules systems, the captain must be a player character, else it quickly lacks the typical Firefly feeling.) - If no one else opts for playing the captain, I could step up to take this character instead of the frontier doc. Are you planning on running Fate Firefly using Fate Core or Fate Accelerated? - Both work well, but are a bit different in their approach. Do you use a Firefly setting adaptation (setting rules specific for Fate Firefly) or "plain vanilla" Fate Core / Fate Accelerated? (For a Firefly adaptation it could be interesting using the Dresden Files Accelerated "Mantles" and Conditions adapted to the Firefly setting. But that would be a bit more work than even some setting-specific rules on top of Fate Core or Fate Accelerated.)
The regular players are Clint and Marko. No one has played the captain at this point. We're playing Fate Core as we're still learning. No special rules. And I'd say the game is more "Firefly-like". We're not recreating that world in any great detail. It's just the basic idea for the setting.

I played some Fate Core and ran a multi-session game in one setting once. I REALLY prefer SF settings, but your time-slot overlaps with an existing group where I play. Keep me in mind if you change day, though. I can offer some useful resources: Mechanical Summary of Fate Core: a table of rules guides in the order you might typically do stuff: https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/17h3a2/a_mec... DIASPORA System Reference Document. This was a very good SF game but it was published for the older version of FATE, "3rd edition". Lots of rules differences: for example, a skill pyramid is 15 skills (if you are Unskilled in anything it's a -1 penalty, not 0). Characters have 10 Aspects. There are no Boosts but there is Spin. Stress tracks check off a box and any box below the one you used. It was partially inspired by TRAVELLER and had a fun start where the group designs a set of 6-12 star-systems (Technology Level, Environment Level and Resource Level and 3 Aspects) before play. It also divided rules into "mini-games" called Personal Combat, Spaceship Combat, Platoon Combat and Social Combat. You might pick out some useful concepts in there. http://www.vsca.ca/Diaspora/diaspora-srd.html
