Some questions/Seeking advice

I hope this is the right place to post this. I currently have been dabbing in Pathfinder and DnD 3.5 for around 3 years off and on, but have never had a concrete game. I came to this sight in search of a more stable game that can be played weekly if not daily. There is only one problem, I am a very shy person when it comes to playing with people I never met, and I would feel guilty if I joined a game and took to long to warm up to the other players. Not only this, but this is my first time trying to play a Tabletop RPG online. Any advice or tips? Thanks. Some major questions I would loved answered is as follows: - Must you use a microphone? - Is there games setup just for people getting used to playing online? - What program is used to play?

Everyone is shy at first so don't worry. Some games do use a microphone and others don't. It is usually posted in their description about what type of voice (if any) is used. Go up to the looking for group button (see it in the blue banner) and do a search for a pathfinder game that welcomes new players. This site is a virtual tabletop program and it runs in your browser so there is no installing needed. You need to use the latest firefox or chrome (preferred) and it should have everything you need in it already. Any questions just ask as someone will help ya.

From time to time there are text only and/or play-by-post games that wouldn't use a microphone along with games designed for people new to a system or Roll20. Your best bet is to keep your eyes open and look in the LFG forums and the LFG search regularly. Just because a game isn't there now doesn't mean there won't be a game that meets your needs later. Beyond just the Roll20 site itself, some games will use communication apps like Skype or Google Hangouts or Mumble. It's also not unheard of for a game to make use of file sharing services like Google drive or Dropbox. In general - and speaking as someone who's run games on Roll20 for over a year now - a bit of shyness isn't going to be an issue. No one goes into a game expecting everyone to be best friends from the get go. But while everyone might not be a shower of puppies and rainbows and kittens and unicorns, I've met many, many more cool and interesting people than buttholes. As a GM, I'd much rather have a committed and interested new player, completely unfamiliar with Roll20 than someone jaded and bored.

Now remember that you will not usually find a game instantly. Roll20 is not truely setup for that. First you find a game that interest you and get the gm to accept you into group. You have post to the gm some basic stuff like your level of experience (sometime less knowledge is desired), your timezone and what days and time you can play, and show that you are willing to be there for the game. Knowing the system should never be worried about especially in a game that welcomes new people for that is why they are welcoming new players. They are there to teach you the system as you play.

I will keep that in mind, I'm currently looking and contacting other people on here and on /r/Roll20.
