Text Based Roleplaying

Hey guys, I've recently heard of a version of RPing that is driven purely by text. In this format players and the GM type in their actions/rolls/etc. on their own time, continuously until the campaign concludes. Has anyone heard of this and if so do you know what to look for on here when looking for new games?

It’s called Play by Post, abbreviation PbP, and it’s common on forums like RPGGeek and RPGNet. Roll20 can support this style of play too.

Hello BigsbysHand. Text based gaming is alive and thriving on roll20.  I just wanted to let you know there is a group that specializes in supporting games that are recruiting text gamers. Knights of the Written Word 2 is a community for gamers who enjoy or prefer text-based games. The hope is that by building a group that helps text based gamers find a game or share their interest in this specific style of gaming in one place, we will have an easier time getting groups together. All systems are welcomed. No actual game is being ran in the group but is used as a more focused LFG forum for this style of games.
I run a largely text-driven Campaign. While most "Encounters" are on voice, with players having the option to flavor text after rolling, all between game interactions and anything when we aren't on a crunch for time is done over text. So it's a bit of a hybrid; but...text provides for much better immersion and character development.
