The first phase is the only adventure that isn't passed around to other players, but you may include their characters if you like. The adventure in other phases is passed around and any player may choose to have their character participate in it (or not). If you participate in someone else's adventure, you may also create a relevant Flag or Foible for your character. You may only have 2 Flags and 3 Foibles. You may have less, and fill them in later. Phase One: Training Phase one is the character’s time in the academy, in service, at war with the navy or training in Star Patrol, perhaps defending the farm from off-planet pirates or following your merchant family across the galaxy. As young cadets, trainee agents, plucky farmboys or inquisitive students, this is the time when the characters start coming into their own, and begin realizing their true potential. Some questions to consider during this period: What did your character do? For whom? Where? In what capacity? What was the highlight, did anything dangerous happen? Did you meet any of the other characters there? What happened to your family? Your patron? Your best friend who you grew up with? Player Rules Write down a brief summary of the events of the phase. Include the name and fate of your family, patron or best friend. Write down one Foible or Flag that is in some way tied into the events of the phase. Phase Two: Your Legend Phase two is the character’s first Legend, starring your character! Each player needs to come up with a title for the legend starring their character, in a fashion reminiscent sci-fi comics or TV shows. The general pattern is: Character Name (vs./in.../and) Adventurous Thing! As such, Deke Sundriver and The Starcurse! or Brandon Carter in... The Lost Destroyer would be ideal. Then, each player needs to think up a story to go with their title. The story doesn’t need to have a lot of detail – in fact, it should be no more detailed than the synopsis on the back of a DVD or novel. Player Rules Write down the title and synopsis (a couple sentences at most) for your character’s Legend. Don’t nail down all of the details of it yet (you’ll find out why below). Write down one Foible or Flag that is in some way tied into the events of the legend. (You can delay doing this, wait to see how the next couple of phases play out, and then choose at the end). Phase Three: Guest Star At the beginning of this phase, the GM writes down all the Legend titles on separate sheets of paper, shuffles the stack, and hands them out. If a player gets their own Legend, they should trade with the person to their right until everyone has a title that isn’t theirs. The title of the Legend a player is now holding is a legend that their character had a supporting role in. For each Legend, the involved players – the player whose Legend it is, and the player who has just received that Legend on a piece of paper – should discuss the story, and add one or two sentences to the description of the Legend to reflect the supporting character’s role. Player Rules Add a sentence or two to the description of the Legend you’re co-starring in. Write down one Foible or Flag that is in some way tied into the events of the legend (as before, you can delay doing this). Phase Four: Guest Star Phase four is identical to phase three, with the sole caveat that no character can co-star in the same Legend twice. Player Rules Add a sentence or two to the description of the Legend you’re supporting cast in. Write down one Foible or Flag that is in some way tied into the events of the legend. If you have 2 flags and 3 foibles, stop here. Phase Five: Guest Star Phase five is identical to phase three, with the sole caveat that no character can co-star in the same Legend twice. Player Rules Add a sentence or two to the description of the Legend you’re supporting cast in. Write down one Foible or Flag that is in some way tied into the events of the legend.
