We had a thought-provoking song this week -- City of Stone by Del McCoury -- and played an interesting game-session with 3 PC's, collaborative exploring and map labeling, and other unusual gameplay modes. There was a random direction roller (macro) for being LOST! It was mostly non-combat, but each PC encountered 1 monster each, and labeled 2 streets each on map. There was RP and a puzzle challenge to spur the Players thoughts and on-Roll20 map exploration (Dynamic Lighting, the new Advanced Fog of War, and a wargame-sized map scale of a large city... PC's could see up to 1200 feet in front & behind their token). Most entertainingly, each Player wrote on the map to "etch their deeds in eternal stone" using the Roll20 text tool. This was cool. There were unique rules, rolls, and scoring for this section of the game play. The Player's deeds could be derived from any past D&D character/adventure they had played, and was not limited to the memories of the current PC. SPECIAL AWARDS: Shortest Street -- Erik , Genvägen Longest Street -- SolidHybrid , Spell Hold Way Most Intersections -- WickedWayz (3!) intersected with Erik at Fullmanen & Carter St; intersected with Solid at Underdark Way & Canvasback. Plus his own. Screenshot of Song World "City Of Stone" map quest DEL MCCOURY CITY OF STONE LYRICS
I dreamed I was lost in a city of stone
And the people that dwelled there were marble
I listened in vain for any fountain's silver tone
In vain for any sweet bird's friendly warble
Chorus1:
It was silent as the grave in that city of stone
Not one soul to save
Not one voice to cheer me on
I was frightened in my heart
And cold to the bone
As I wandered in my dream
Through that city of stone
I dreamed I was lost in a city of stone
And the people that dwelled there were marble
I wandered the alleyways in search of my home
At a familiar place I rang the doorbell
Chorus2:
No one replied, but the door swung open wide
So I stepped inside
My house to look upon
All cobwebs and ashes
All signs of life were gone
And I feared for my soul
In that city of stone
The most precious of gifts come in the strangest of forms
Sweet life quickens even in the charnel
Sometimes we're granted visions
That serve us as a warning How our passing deeds are writ in stone eternal
Chorus3:
So make not your heart into a city of stone
The higher that you build those walls
The surer overthrown
For here stands a man
Who turned back from too far gone
When he dreamed he was lost
In a city of stone
Yes, here stands a man
Who turned back from too far gone
Oh, I dreamed I was lost in a city of stone.
