Setting THE STORY: Most important TEAM objective: Finding whoever is behind it all Biggest obstacle: We're being used or manipulated Hardest working opposition: The rogue AI Why does it want to stop us: Because robot PCs THE SETTING / UNIVERSE: Psychic powers exist Aliens are common and may disobey laws of physics - but interdimensional aliens are incredibly rare. Magic (or magic-like effects) are not yet known to exist Other sentient machines (outside the team) do exist Xenophobia is variable between places and groups and whatever else Power blocks/factions - similar to Traveller (mix of big powerful down to planetary/lawless regions) FTL TRAVEL: There are different mechanisms! They have pros and cons! STAR CHARTS: There are many, incomplete or unreliable in different ways. Navigation between major places is easy, finer details can be messy. ALIEN LIFE: The galaxy is full of advanced civilisations!   All mixed up together, Each in their own distinct region,   Constantly vying for… Power -  Resources - Territory, But only a few dominate STARTING REGION Who rules this part of the galaxy: Frontier law along the border between bigger factions! However there are worrying rumours... Neighbouring factions: Robot AI x2 not related to PC robots, both the same race but opposing ideologies (I'm thinking true democracy vs representative meritocratic democracy) ; Humans of some kind; Saurians of some kind; Plants of some kind TECHNOLOGIES: Alternative tech (?) -- Artificial Intelligence (D) -- Bio tech (-) -- Energy weapons (D) -- Field/shield tech (D) -- FTL drives (D) -- FTL comms (D) but low bandwidth -- Grav tech (D) --Holo tech (D) -- Hyperspace drives (D) -- Info/Media tech (Local) -- Life transfer tech (Experimental) aka teleport living things -- Matter transfer (Experimental) aka teleport everything else -- Med tech (Uncommon) -- Nano tech (Uncommon) -- Projectile weapons (D) -- Psi tech (D) -- Sensor tech (Local) -- Starships (-) SKILLS/ABILITIES: Consciousness transfer (Absent) -- Create AIs (Legal) -- Navigate hyperspace (Training + maps) -- Pilot starships (Legal + training) -- Psionics (Innate) SUMMARY OF FACTIONS Folks in the local area now at peace surrounding the no-beings space of neutrality (better name needed) that is full of resources and starter colonies from these factions and others. Alien Robot AI Race Idealogy #1 and culture #1 - technically the side most likely to win any war in the area if it wasn't subject to civil war. Alien Robot AI Race Idealogy #2 and culture #1 - technically the side most likely to win any war in the area if it wasn't subject to civil war. Humans of culture #2 Saurians of culture #3 Plants of culture #4 Factions related to PCs Some other faction (No. 6) that has an agency for Harmon and Quintus to come from. Long dead warrior race for Jason's character to come from. Possibly human. The Agency (or similar semi ominous name) - the authority within the no-beings space of neutrality that each of the 5 ex-warring factions have given responsibility for licensing, monitoring, organising, supplying, policing and paying bounty hunters to police planets colonised by their faction (or others) within the space. Possibly something related to Deborah's nanotech swarm creation The Inter-Dimensional Menace Characters Quintus "the Hound" Mawson Human Hound Race options: Plans within Plans (the Intellect) Crack Pilot (the Smuggler) Archetype Background: Lawkeeper PHASE 1 - Training Trainee agent for the security agency of the United Suns. Performed well, but struggled with partisan enforcement of laws designed to support the elite, so left for The Agency. Family still lives comfortably as part of that society, patron was disappointed and severed ties, childhood best friend is now a high level agent of the United Suns security agency. Harmon Android Infiltrator (Humanoid Walker) Race options Lifelike Reconfigure Archetype Background: PHASE 1 - Training/Programming Programmed agent for the security agency of the United Suns. Implemented and tested in several wetworks assignments, and found to be extremely well suited to infiltration and counter-espionage. After a successful tour of duty, Harmon was compromised but an enemy virus that affected its directive library, and caused disastrous missions where friendlies were obliterated. Harmon was tagged for retirement, when it escaped and made its way to the Armistace Space worlds where it became a free agent. HB 1097 Android Outsider (Other Hover) Race options: Internal Repair Manipulator Fields Archetype Background: The Child PHASE 1 - Training HB 1097 was a Nanobot network robot with fairly standard AI. It was used in the laboratory of Professor Dorothea Brandt, an eccentric genius who worked in the area of planetary terraforming. During Hebe's time with the Prof, who had reached extreme old age, Hebe was used as an extension of the Professors body, from manipulator of objects to note taker, and her AI was improved by experimentation and learning over time. Dorothea encouraged a childlike questioning nature, which has left Hebe with an almost uncontrollable curiosity that can get her into trouble. The Prof was something of a maverick, and while she was working for the (which faction?) she insisted on the power to do things her own way, unfortunately this meant she refused to work in a secure laboratory on a busy planet, instead creating a utopia of her own on a small moon. She knew this might leave her in danger of industrial espionage or worse, and the worst happened when she was killed in an attack on her moon by mercenary pirates paid by (?) However she had partly prepared by placing codes necessary to crack her databases into hebe, and giving hebe instructions to escape above all else, if anything ever happened to her lab Faraday Warrior Race Warhorse Race options Combat Awareness Fast. Archetype Background: Warden - dedicated to protecting civilisation from the [extradimensional menace]
