Guild of Roleplayers Recruiting for New Gaming Season

Hello there. I'm Ardis Foxx, and I manage the Virtual Table RPG Portal - a section of the multi-gaming guild Eternal Vigilance . We're essentially a large community of friends who love playing tabletop RPG games and teaching others on how to be a great dungeon master. The friendships you make in Eternal Vigilance are like those you get in your local gaming group- they last. About the Virtual Table RPG Portal Overview The VTRPG Portal was founded in November 2011. We play mostly D&D and Pathfinder but other systems also see play time. We use the virtual table at http://roll20.net/ to host these games online. Goals The motivating factor of the portal is to ensure the best play experience possible for an internet-based tabletop RPG. We seek to hold a high standard of excellence in creating, maintaining and running campaigns. Our goal is also to propagate- helping new DMs every step of the way along their journey to becoming confident and successful when running their own games. For a detailed look at how we achieve this, please read the VT RPG Portal Charter. http://www.evcitadel.com/community/threads/official-vt-rpg-charter.27135/ Why Join? Our portal offers more than any single gaming group can. We have a dedicated center of leadership, experienced Dungeon Masters, and expertly crafted campaigns. We are driven to make the game a success, and to elevate each member to a place where they can run their own campaign if they so choose. If you need advice on how to play or DM a game, we have the knowledge base to make it great. No matter what game we’re playing, Eternal Vigilance has always been dedicated to maintaining a friendly, mature, active community; we’re a home away from home. We’re as dedicated to our games as we are to our community, and we believe that if things are built on a solid foundation, they have every chance to exceed expectation. Although we realize that nothing is ever perfect, we know that the ability to change and evolve is important, which is why we are a democratic guild. Everyone has a voice that will be heard. These are the values we bring to tabletop gaming. If you're interested in joining or you just want to take a closer look, visit our website at http://www.evcitadel.com/community/threads/how-to-join-vt-rpg-applicants-read-this.27274/ .
We are currently recruiting for the new year. Our list of applicants is growing every day. I can't wait to see what kind of campaigns are established this season. It's always exciting. :)
I signed up on the forums but wasn't sure what I had to do about the trial game to get into the actual community. Is there somewhere I go for that?
is this like a pathfinder society thing where people just join random groups each time and level their characters that way or is it like a community for finding a core group to play with weekly?
Hey, hopefully I can answer your questions: @Codey R. Occasionally one of our guild's DMs will organize a one-shot (3.5e, 4e, Pathfinder, WoD, Cthulu; it depends on the DM) that is open to whoever has time and interest, though the number of spots is obviously restricted, as too many players would be impossible to coordinate. Just keep an eye out on the forums and I'm sure you'll find something in time. Note that the trial game is not always necessary - if your conduct is well-received by the leadership, it's waived in some cases. Also, actual membership in Eternal Vigilance is not mandatory to participate in our VTRPG games (I myself play with a few non-members), but it's obviously highly recommended, as the guild offers a lot of benefits and a great community. ;) @John T. It's essentially the latter, but nobody is required to find a core group to play with or to stick with just one. As long as you can reliably make a group's schedule, you're free to join as many as you want to, and play in one-shot adventures, as well. We've got DMs that play a wide variety of rule systems, so I'm sure one can find something that suits their tastes. Getting into the guild and participating may seem like quite a daunting task at first, but it's easier than it looks and quite worthwhile, as we're a cross-game, cross-plattform guild with an incredibly friendly community (thanks to our thorough screening process). Personally, I've mostly just played with a Pathfinder core group lead by one of our DMs that has lasted for well over a year so far and has been a blast to play. While you're absolutely free to join just a portal and play nothing but virtual Pen&Paper, you'll be able to find and play with lots of reliable people if you enjoy other types of games, as well. It can be slighty more difficult if you're not American (like me) due to timezones, but we're quite international, nonetheless. Beyond that, our TeamSpeak server is quite decent and populated almost around the clock, so feel free to join in.

Hi Codey, Actually today I will be relaxing (read: removing) the trial game requirement for new members. Initially it was there to ensure toxic players and such are left out, but this year I'll be trying something different with my leadership team in that regard. I'll be accepting new member requests immediately after I feel satisfied with their introduction into our community. Lammath drios - may fortune find you. :)
As an EV member I just wanted to post a testimonial. I joined a few months ago for a Star Citizen guild and in return have found an amazing group of roll players and play everything from D&D, Warhammer to Battlefield and MMO's with the community. Large number of great people from all over the world.
Hey guys! We've had a nice response from this thread but I'd love to see more new faces. If you're on the fence and need a little more info on what we're all about, let me summarise. For VTRPG, the core purpose is to bring roleplayers together in a consistent group that they can create and run RPG games together. It means you can run games with a larger pool of friends than you would normally have. We're the middle ground between your local gaming group (a handful of reliable people) and randoms on the internet (limitless numbers, high chance of disappointment in player personalities/punctuality/group dynamic). We're just a big group of friends essentially. So come over and let's play. :)
I bookmarked it for later reference. Sounds pretty good, I'll take a closer look at it later. Thanks.
Hi there! I'm super interested in joining your community, quick question though. I've only played one game of any tabletop RPG before, are you welcoming new players who have little to no experience?
I would be interesting in joining the community! I have made it my goal this year to become a GM... I have been piecing things together from different sources and I am interested to see where this will go.

Everyone is welcome. Some of the best roleplayers I've ever met didn't read a single RPG book before starting play, I just helped them through it by asking what their character wanted to do. shawn d. said: I would be interesting in joining the community! I'd be happy to mentor you on becoming a better DM. One of the benefits of our community is rubbing shoulders with other DMs and being able to draw on each other for ideas and resources.
Ardis your community looks like it was awesome, right about a year ago. There's hardly any recent activity barring games that are already on-going, at least from what I've seen in the past few days (please correct me if I'm wrong here). Why should we join now is basically what I'm asking here? :)

Why should we join now is basically what I'm asking here? :) Hi Shane. We renew our portal at the start of each year with new recruits, because throughout the year people go through life changing stuff that stops them from gaming. People get married, move cities, go into the armed services, change jobs, even move into places with (gasp) no internet. We've had it all. :) New recruits are the life blood of any guild, as you can't expect 100% retention in the roster. Ideally we would keep up the recruitment throughout the year but for me, this year's been a busy one with my 3rd baby being born, so I chose to delay recruitment until just recently. So to cut a long story short, if it looks like we've declined since last year, that is by design, and easily remedied with new faces :) Our values and organisational structure remain as good as they've ever been. Cheers!
Well firstly, congrats on the baby! And secondly, thanks for filling me in I appreciate it. Like I said your community looks full of awesome people, quite a rare thing you are able to say about an internet community these days. I was simply worried it had run it's course or would be full of friends playing with each other, etc (if you catch what I'm trying to say here, it's very late for me right now). I look forward to possibly playing with you et all sometime in the future.

We're still looking for more DMs and players to join our merry band. A lot of Pathfinder and D&D fans here, but if you're keen on other systems like old D&D basic, come talk to us. There's demand for more players for those systems too!
