Hey! Other GMs! I'm curious about your games...(sorta poll/sorta survey)

1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? Just one, it started out as a Pathfinder Campaign but changed to Dungeon Worlds this week (easier rules, better flow at least for new people I think) 2) How long have your games been running? Game has been running for about a month now, Time elapsed is maybe 4 days... 3) What system(s) are you using? Dungeon World (as mentioned earlier I love the flow) 4) How did these campaigns materialize? Well I'm playing with online gaming friends...and we already tried P&P a year ago... stumbling upon roll20 I thought we'd give it a second shot as it offered everything I dearly missed in the clunky other tools 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? I have currently 3 Players.... and I feel like that is my magic number... I would maybe consider a 4th player but that would mean more downtime for the others and I don't think that's a good idea 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? I always wanted wings, so if there is any god which I could sacrifice the third eye or the tail to.... I'd pick the one which gave me the better shot at obtaining wings.
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? One. I have two different campaigns and if Roll20 seems good enough I'll be hosting them both via it. 2) How long have your games been running? In Roll20 I have had only 1 session. We also have F2F sessions and before Roll20 Skype-sessions. Outside Roll20 the campaign has lasted something like 18 months and we have a session once per week per campaign. In-game the campaign has lasted about 14 months. The other campaign has lasted about 7 months and in-game about 4,5 years have passed. 3) What system(s) are you using? The one that has already had a Roll20 session the system is Advanced Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2th edition. The 'Advanced' comes from me doing some tweaks to the system. The other uses D&D 3.5 edition rules. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? It started in F2F sessions then moved to Skype (with F2F session when ever we could which means about once every 2 months). All of the players + me (the GM) are friends outside roleplaying but I did meet half of the players in a roleplaying session. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? WFRP: 1 GM + 3 players (will be 4 in 3 weeks). D&D: 1 GM + 4 players. No we're not looking for more players. A) even with 4 players it sometimes feels crowded B) we have F2F sessions as well so the additional players would have to come to Lahti in Finland for those sessions. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Third eye if I didn't have the helm of many eyes but because I have it I would choose the tail. But only if tail would be agile and I could wield a handweapon with it (for those who haven't played WFRP, it's a mutation you can get it that mechanic).
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? 1 as player ocasionaly GM, but preapering to start 2nd if i won t find anything in rl 2) How long have your games been running? On Roll20 2 only, but we are playing since october '12. we used to use 3rd party software, but moved to roll 20 now, because it don t need public IP, and low Memory usage. Also have some sweets like jukebox, but drawing is not so good :( 3) What system(s) are you using? Warhammer 2nd ed atm, would like to start 1st soon, because it was my first RPG and magic mechanics is better for me 4) How did these campaigns materialize? since i'd rather play in my native language, i found my GM on polish forum. We played as players, but previous team/gm wasn't organized, and i left it. Then msged to other player, which mentioned that he wants to start other team as GM. i joined him and occasionally GMing 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? GM + 4 players, and we are full atm. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Third eye in hand so i could unnoticed look at boobs 8) also since i'm spiderman fan i would like to have tail, as Scorpion 7) FOR NEXT USER ONLY : Tall Dwarf or short Elf?
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? I am DMing 2 privates ones for a friend ( a low level paladin of Pelor, and a mid level Frost Barbarian setting ), another one scheduled for the summer (a scenario for my DM based on the Mud Sorcerer's Tomb from Dungeon Magazine, my 2nd original take), and playing in 3 (a mid level Underdark campaign, an epic level Orcus adventure, and a no holds barred Traveller meets D&D - Spelljammers campaign) ... 2) How long have your games been running? My personal games, on off for the year, the games I play in, on and off since 1991. 3) What system(s) are you using? We use a hybrid of 1st, 2nd, 3.5 D&D, with house rules of course. And the DM has been retro converting 4E content into our format, which we call 2.5. We play a high min/maxing, high combat, high damage game. We roleplay too, but our combat is lethal, where 70 points can be done in 1 shot at mid to low level, AND ridiculous 3 - 4 digit damage for epic level characters fighting dragons of ancient wyrm standing. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? Players have known each other in high school since 1984, I joined their game in 1991, for living close to many of them and a family friend. In person the game lasted till 2003 for me, till I moved away. Then somehow some players migrated to World of Warcraft up until some players first started having kids. But since 2008, the game has become an online experience with Skype or Oovoo, until about 6 months ago when we found Roll20 and Google +. 5) How big are your games? DM + 4 players online, in person back in the day, it was upto 5 people. I should add that each player plays from 1 to 3 characters each, not counting NPCs we take on, people rescued, hostages taken... it's A LOT of book keeping. Are you looking for more players? Not at the moment, our characters are very set into the Greyhawk setting, and are the "celebrities" of that world. Each main player has easily 25 or more characters from 20+ years of playing... 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? neither, too much maintenance 7) FOR NEXT USER ONLY : Tall Dwarf or short Elf? neither, human barbarian...
1) I've got 3 scheduled one offs that I'm DMing, running a sort of beginner's service. There's going to be more...so that's kinda an on-going? I'm actively a player in 2xs weekly game. 2) My last newb teaching game ran over 3 hour mark, we got maybe halfway though. It might not have taken so long if there hadn't been so many 1s rolled. 3) d&d 3.5 4) I'm helping those new to d&d or roll20 5) 4-6 players each, I got over 30 people so I shut the application temporarily 6) Tail, could hide it more easily
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? Im runing 2 games both are warhammer 40k i help with gming one while i completely run th other by myself. 2) How long have your games been running? The on im doing has bin made just recently along with the one im helping gm 2.. 3) What system(s) are you using? Deathwatch 4) How did these campaigns materialize? I was trying to find people irl that played but i coudnt find any one so i came to roll 20. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Third eye cause it would give me magical powers like telling the future or looking into your soul :b
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? One, but I am looking to start another. 2) How long have your games been running? We just had our third session, we run biweekly so four weeks 3) What system(s) are you using? Savage Worlds. I love the flexibility. I told my current group that they could choose any setting they wanted. They chose to be were-creatures in an Aztec setting. I was able to set that up with nothing more than the SW core rules. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? I was asked to GM by a group from another town that I met while helping out at a LARP. I sold them Savage Worlds and we are having a blast. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? I currently have a five-player game, but I am looking to add a new game for max four players. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Tail. Specifically I want one of these: wooly monkeys can support their entire weight with their tails and grip things tighly enough with the "palm" at the end to open jar lids... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7179/6984301769_d485210d2a_z.jpg
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? Only one, though this one is mostly a test session spurred on by friends and mostly be fiddling around with story telling conventions. 2) How long have your games been running? One test session, ran around 3 hours or so. 3) What system(s) are you using? Homebrew Heavy Pathfinder. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? After the departure of our more experienced DM, after we enjoyed the taste of table top roleplaying games we began to explore other options, but our campaigns changed hands from person to person. Despite a few problems here and there, I decided to give it a crack. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? Two-three people at best, given how it is a test game mostly to see how the system holds up. I would be looking for more players, but my choice system is a tad rigorous. Don't want a repeat of getting a 'bad apple batch' like the last campaign. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? If I can hide my third eye, definitely that. Otherwise, a Tail. If it's strong and long enough to use as a third hand that'd be fabulous max.
Ha! I'm pleased this thread passed it's saving throw after Tim cast resurrection. As an update: The Fate Core game I mentioned in the first post has given way to a Savage Worlds game with mostly the same group. For the better, I think. I still want a tail over a third eye. The Battletech meets Flight of the Intruder meets Starship Troopers meets Full Metal Jacket campaign remains on the drawing board, for now. What surprised me about the results is although the LFG forum seems heavily, heavily skewed towards new school D&D, "only" half of the respondents' campaigns were Pathfinder/3.5/4E games. So, for those feeling like you're a salmon swimming upstream in a sea of feats and attacks of opportunity, you're really not bad off compared to the world at large. Don't be afraid to run the game you want to run. Players, if you can't find a seat for an edition you want, consider expanding your horizons. What didn't surprise me was the longer term, more stable groups didn't rely on the LFG forum alone. Google+, game specific forums, real life friends and acquaintances all contribute to games hosted here. If you're having trouble getting a group together, leverage other methods of finding people. Roll20 remains a thriving community full of helpful people. Let's keep it going! More responses people!
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? 1 - a trial to get me some Roll20 setup experience and to get some of my usual group familiar with Roll20. 2) How long have your games been running? Only one session so far. Two more google+ hangouts scheduled. 3) What system(s) are you using? Chaosium BRP. It's what I am currently using in face-to-face play. This is the third rule system for a campaign that has been running for many years. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? Have been looking for a VTT that I could use alongside face-to-face for some time. And the techie side intrigued me as a veteran IT pro. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? Three players (could go to perhaps 4 or 5 in a week or two) Not looking for new players yet. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Prehensile tail please
) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? One. 2) How long have your games been running? Two clocking in at about nine to ten hours. 3) What system(s) are you using? Unisystem (specifically a modified version used for "All Flesh Must Be Eaten" 4) How did these campaigns materialize? As a working adult, I think we all found out that getting a group together simply by being in the same geographic region was just not feasible. So I started looking into online tabletops (being inspired by seeing folks on YouTube recording their live stream sessions). I found this place, played around a bit (in the Dreamscape game hosted by my talented buddy Patrick W.), then decided that maybe roll20 could do with more horror. So I made "Fleet of the Damned"...and the rest is history. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? As big as they need to be. I'm always looking for more players. 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Am I able to to decide where the eye appears? Is the eye a representation of enlightenment? Does it have infrared vision? Dark vision? A wifi connection? If so, I would love to have a third eye on the back of my head, positioned downward. That way, I can always respond to people who tell me to watch my ass with "I already do!"
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? Active ongoing games only please. That idea you have about combining Flight of the Intruder with Battletech and adding zombies - great idea, but you aren't running it now. Games on "hiatus" do count, if you'd like.--- I am currently running 2 active campaigns, however they are all part of one large world that encompasses many campaigns. The world is my own creation, so multiple campaigns but 2 actually active on Roll20, and a heroscape board I am making to play a custom Marvelscape. 2) How long have your games been running? Both how many sessions and the elapsed time of the campaign. Sessions on Roll20, about 8 maybe? I ran a campaign IRL for over a year, a Star Wars campaign for about 3 years IRL, and then last Summer I started a campaign that we play almost every single day for 3+ hours. This campaign is the one that I have been playing on Roll20 with my players. We play in real life but use Roll20 as a nice base. I have spent 100's of hours if not 1000's working on maps, my world and lore and characters. So for quite a while and we play large 20+ hour sessions with great frequency. 3) What system(s) are you using?--- Open ended D20 custom house rules. It draws a bit of similarity from many systems but the character sheets and system itself is truly custom and is the system I learned to play with. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? Did you start out in real life and shift over to Roll20; did you find people on other sites who really wanted to run an out of print game and decided to use Roll20; did you meet up here on the LFG forums; did you post your game in the LFG section and people just found you? Etc. Friend in real life taught me about RP with a fantasy campaign a few years back... I fell in love to say the least. Gm'd a fantasy campaign with a friend IRL and over Xbox Live party chat. Gm'd a MASSIVE open-ended sandbox but canonical Star Wars campaign with entirely custom rules that I created, non-saga (set of campaigns) for my original GM and co-players. (In person) Gm'd Cthulhu campaign for the same group in person, using the Chaosium system and guides. Gm'd a custom Cthulhu game and custom Doctor Who based game with custom rules with the same group. Helped co-create and GM/play a Mass Effect pen & paper game. Was asked to create a Fantasy campaign while my original GM was gone on study-abroad (we played w/ G-chat/G-talk while he was gone) by my co-players. Ended up creating an entire massive world with many many running stories and people. Lore etc. Wrote a small book for it and used most of the same custom house rules w/ tweaks to magic. This is now my main campaign, with friends IRL or over Roll20. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? Currently my game consists of myself and 4-7 players on a normal basis. We just had someone new join and have a few that play off-&-on or when time permits. We always have at least 4-5. They are all players I know from real life and we tend to meet at one of our houses and play and just use many-a-computer to use Roll20 now (I LOVE making maps). All my other campaigns have had a wide age range and consist of 2-5 people. World size my games are absolutely MASSIVE. I am currently not looking for more players as it is already hard enough to get our schedules timed up to play. However, I am interested in getting a Roll20 outsider perhaps to play with us at some point, to get outsider insight. At the same time I would have to teach them the entire custom system (not to hard, draws on ideas of many famous systems), so we will see! :D 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? My wife got asked this as an icebreaker at a mommy group in the world's most PG-rated version of 'Would you rather?' Feel free to include any other details you'd like. If the tail is usable, prehensile, then a tail absolutely. If the third eye has future sight and doesn't impair my vision it might be a bit of a contest. But I keep picturing DBZ tail atm, so... tail.
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? One. 2) How long have your games been running? Shoot, maybe 2 months? Over a dozen sessions. 3) What system(s) are you using? Fantasy Flight Game's Black Crusade, with rules and items from the Tome of Fate and Tome of Blood allowed, and modded with written-down houserules. It uses humans and space marines, and most of the rules have to do with indirectly balancing them. Some just make the background mesh with the rules better. Black Crusade takes place in the Warhammer 40k universe, and you play as powerful, dangerous heretics, Traitor Marines, rogue human psykers, assassins, dark mechanicus, ex-planetary governors. It's super fun to play as such powerful characters, as the battles are usually something like the group vs. 5 jump marines, all with plasma and power weapons, or a single, hulking dreadnought. 4) How did these campaigns materialize? We'd done scattered missions before with the system, and we really liked the idea of being a bunch of space marines and humans against the universe. We stopped playing for a while, but then I asked if they would be interested in starting up a more focused campaign, which they were very enthusiastic about. It started as being called BC2GRIRF: Black Crusade Two: the Gritty Reboot that Ignores the Rest of the Franchise. It's now called Artel, after the system it takes place in. 5) How big are your games? Are you looking for more players? Rather than traipsing around the universe as they pleased, I created a single star system, with 4 accessible planets, with the players being strictly confined by their resourcefulness to individual cities on the planets. It caught on really well, they appreciated the detail they could go into, and they're super pumped to get to a new planet after staying on this one for the whole campaign so far. There's currently 6 players, but I run a PC in the world as well: they tend to kill many NPC's they come across, so I needed a more permanent voice. My girlfriend didn't RP before we started, and now she's addicted, so yeah, that's pretty great. :D 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Hmmmm tail. The best thing about Black Crusade is that the PC's may have to make that choice... or have it made for them by the dice.
1) How many games are you running on Roll20 right now? Two games. I play in a third. 2) How long have your games been running? Tuesday game: 4 months, Wednesday game: 1 month, Thursday game - the one i play in (1 year +) 3) What system(s) are you using? AD&D 2nd Edition 4) How did these campaigns materialize? www.osrgaming.org got me back into wanting to gaming again. Various people were running games via skype/ventrillo. One day in the forum chat room, a guy asked about learning to play D&D and was told by another member to try AD&D. I had just learned of Roll20 and had been setting up a campaign so I volunteered. It worked so smoothly (Roll20, not my DMing skills!) that I showed my Thursday DM roll20 and he has run that game here ever since. 5.1) How big are your games? How big are my games..... as big as they want to be? I run a game world. You start some where in it. Currently both groups are in the same city. If you want to leave the gates, get some provisions and we shall see what awaits you on the other side! 5.2) Are you looking for more players? I advertised for more players and got so many I now am looking for more time! 6) Would you rather have a third eye or a tail? Depends where the eye would be - If I can choose, then the eye. I stumble to much and would break my tail. Maybe an eye would keep me from falling...but then again, maybe a tail would give me balance? Hmmm.......
