Virtual Tabletop doesn't load in Google Chrome, WebGL often crashes as well

Long story short, both I and my cousin have encountered an issue in one of our Roll20 games where, upon joining the game, our screen flashes black for a second, then just displays an empty roll20 game. The toolbar at the right is there, the char area is there, the chat works, and all the tabs work. But the actual virtual tabletop just isn't there. Can't see the map, any tokens, no grid, nothing at all. Reloading the page a few times sometimes lets me in to where I can see the tabletop and interact with it, but not always. It doesn't work at all for him, even after reloading. Also, sometimes when loading in, I will see a faint image of the tabletop as it loads for just a second, and then it will freeze, flash black, and be a blank table top. Also, WebGL says it snags, and crashes every now and then. Reloading it often doesn't do anything to help with the problem. We have each have hardware acceleration on. Microsoft edge didn't work for him, neither of us have tried firefox yet. It is also only happening in this game. We have each joined other campaigns we are in, and can load in fine. We can also load much larger maps than this as well. The map in question has a grid size of about 90x70, and I am able to load and look at grids of 240x180 in one of my other games just fine. After&nbsp; some troubleshooting, neither of us really have any idea as to what is going on. I have tried looking at other forumn and reddit threads to see if I could find a fix, but no dice so far. Any help would be appreciated!
I have also tried disabling a lot of the api scripts that might have been causing the issue. Apparently the whole problem started when my cousin used the MapLock scripts "toggle highlights" command. It had worked fine for me before, but the moment he used it everything broke apparently. I have since disabled the script, deleted the map from the tabletop, and reuploaded it. But we still have issues connecting and seeing the tabletop.

Step 1: Make sure to use the right browser Please check if these issues persist when using both Chrome and Firefox. Step 2: Ensure that there are no extensions/addons interfering with Roll20 Please disable all add-ons/extensions and anti-virus programs. Step 3: Clear your cache If none of the above succeeds, please thoroughly work through Step 4 . (Don't forget the complete Console Log!) Thank you!

Thanks for the quick response. Loaded up the game in firefox, seemed to work alright, but it did have some minor visual bugs, like white lines appearing in the middle or large images(the world map, basically). It appears the issue is mostly with chrome for me. I will try and get results from my cousin when I am able to. My settings: Google chrome, 64 bit, version&nbsp;63.0.3239.84 Windows 10, 64 bit Javascript enabled No addons currently enabled I would also note that every now and then the tabletop grid loads, but with nothing on it. I'd also note that, for me, this only happens sometimes while trying to load into the game. About 1 of 3 attempts actually gets me in. My cousin has no such luck, and has yet to be able to interact with the game. I went ahead and grabbed a console log from one of the instances the tabletop wouldn't load as well. We have done a bit more testing. It works fairly consistently in firefox (though there are other problems, but they are minor).&nbsp; Both Google Chrome and Chrome Canary have issues loading into the game.

I hate to complain, but we are still having this issue and it's making it very hard to play our game. Is there anything we can do to speed up troubleshooting and get this fixed?
We are still having this problem, and have yet to get any kind of help on the issue. It's been a week now, and nothing at all. Both of use have issues on either browser, and have a lot of work to do with the game. We'd really appreciate some kind of help here.

Hey everyone, I apologize that this slipped under the radar for so long! What are the names of the games that you are experiencing this issue in?
The game me and my cousin are having issues in is just called Travels of Oorota for now. Both Mason and I are in it, I can pm you the game link if you need it. Like said above, the specific issue seems to be with WebGL, but i'm not entirely sure. There's about a 50% chance it wont crash for me when i load in to work on the game, but he just straight up can't use google chrome, so I had him download firefox as a temporary workaround. Firefox worked when I was trying to load into the game, but had other visual bugs for me when playing.
So I had a chance to look at your game, and I can confirm that I am running into the same issues as yourself. I did spot some images missing while on chrome as well, so I am hesitant to say that it is just firefox on that end. I did notice that you had quite a few API scripts in the game, so it is possible that they may be part of the cause. If you create a copy of the game with no API scripts, do you still run into problems?
Actually Firefox worked great for me in terms of loading in, the issue I had was that the world map had these weird white lines going through it, like a big grid. They weren't from roll20 or the image. And I can certainly try. I do recall creating new pages as well as a new game a while back, but I can't remember if the game was a clean one or a copy of another game. I'm currently having actual hardware issues on my pc though, so seeing as I currently have it open on the floor of my room, it may be a bit before I can test this theory out... Still, it is pleasant to hear it isn't some unreproducable bug that only we are experiencing.&nbsp;

Edit: Well Drespar, it didn't seem to solve the issue entirely. My Chrome loaded in once fine, but I came back later and just got a blackscreen shortly after loading in and seeing a blurry version of the map. It seems to be just as bad either way.

Yeah I thought that was the case for Firefox, but I wasn't sure if there was a way to remove it or not. I'm frustrated to hear that there isn't because they look awful :(&nbsp; And I will certainly try that out. I'm now on a different computer again, as I'm home for the holidays, so I am just using a laptop now. I have yet to see if I have the loading issues are there on this laptop so I will check that as well. Edit: It doesn't seem like my laptop has the loading issue in the base game or in the copied game. Hm. So it might be computer specific then? My desktop and Mason's desktop are the systems we normally use for Roll20, and that is what we have each experienced the problem on. Edit 2: Mason just tried it, and still had loading errors on the new game with the copied map page.

have you attempted to disable your AVg or whitelist roll20.net servers?&nbsp; i also see a lot of unsecure content and mix content attempting to load from non https sources. some of them could be it but DEv will have to confirm. Edit. you could save the map images and upload it into your library then create a new page all together to see if it is the source of the image or the size of the map.&nbsp;
I'm having the same problem with Google Chrome.&nbsp; I do not have the Firefox browser.

Edit 2: Mason just tried it, and still had loading errors on the new game with the copied map page. Are there any programs/extensions that you can think of that you both use that perhaps might be causing part of the problem? Likely something that wouldn't be the same with the laptop? Operating systems, etc. In the mean time, I am going to try and get some extra eyes on this to discuss what might be going on. Operating System is the same, each Windows 10. Both have Nvidia cards, though they are different cards. Have disabled all the plug ins, and Chrome is using the latest stable update. It may have to do with a recent update on Chrome? I'm not entirely sure. I wish I could provide more assistance but the issue came up very untimely for me, as I will be away from my desktop until January.&nbsp; Edit: Mason also uses an Nvidia card on his desktop.
Alright, I am finally back to my normal residence and therefore normal computer, and I'm sad to see that this issue has not been resolved. Whenever I load into the roll20 game, we still have WebGL crashes. Overall the game has been having performance issues for a lot of the players in it. I was hoping chrome might have an update to fix the issue, but it has not. I'm still not entirely sure where the issue is stemming from either. This is really frustrating
My friends and I all started running into this issue in Chrome on a game none of us have had a problem with before. Firefox works, and Edge works although you can't open character sheets (new window appears but blank). We're all running Chrome 63. The issue is intermittent and the page puts out a webGL crash message. We're all getting it. It should be noted this is our first time back in about a month after breaking for Christmas, so not sure if Roll20 updated/changed anything on the backend.
I feel like it has to do with the most recent Chrome update changing something, and that change is not meshing well with Roll20.
Played another game today, and unfortunately the problem still persists. I haven't heard anything on this more than 3 weeks ago. Has there been any progress finding what's causing the problem?
Hi Caelan, I was able to load into a copy of your game using Chrome, but not before the renderer spent a rather long time figuring out what to do (it was extremely laggy).&nbsp; As you've deduced, this seems to be a bug introduced with Chrome, as it works fine with Firefox.&nbsp; I haven't been able to replicate your exact issue, however (the Canvas failing to render at all).&nbsp; This might simply be due to hardware differences. While we look into solving the root cause of this issue further, it would be helpful to see if certain workarounds help you, even temporarily.&nbsp; When I unchecked "Enable Grid" in the page settings for your World Map, the lag completely disappeared.&nbsp; Since you can get in-game with Firefox just fine, could you try disabling the grid as I did, and then see if you can load into the game using Chrome? Whether this solves the issue will provide a lot of insight as to whether we can be sure exactly what the problem is. Thanks, Jeff
Thanks Jeff, I'll try it out. On my laptop it seems to work, but I'll have to test more on my desktop when I'm home in a few hours. The grid is something we would like to have, but if it stops the crashing it is a good workaround for now.&nbsp; I'll let you know how it fares on my computer later on
Is there any new word on this at all? Some word other than, "We're looking into it"? This issue is really frustrating and I shouldn't have to have multiple browsers installed to use Roll20 properly if I'm completely honest...
False alarm on my part. Turning off the grid hasn't really helped. The game runs a bit smoother when I'm actually in it, but getting into the game is a NIGHTMARE. 40 minutes past start of session and I have yet to load into the tabletop successfully on Chrome. I have resorted to firefox on the second monitor, but it has other visual bugs so I'm trying to load in on Chrome still. It's not going great.

Caelan, I dug into your game and found the cause of the issue. I wasn't able to replicate the problem except when I combined Windows 10, Chrome browser, and your map page. On any other browser, operating system, or game page the game loaded in. Specifically it's your massive background image on that page. If you remove that image, or shrink it down so that it doesn't try and load in as the max (several MB) size image, the browser will load the page including that image. However, stretched to cover the entire map the browser appears to run out of memory and cause the crash you're familiar with. I'm not sure why Chrome specifically with Windows 10 is having a uniquely hard time but the images size and large dimensions are the culprit. We'll investigate possible solutions to helping Chrome and Windows 10 to load large images without using so much memory, but until then I suggest taking a different route for your campaign map.
Well, I can try reducing the file size, but it's within the upload limit... I'll have to reduce the resolution a bit and try and sharpen it. I could also try and shrink the grid more, but if I recall it's already at 0.5. I could try 0.25 probably but it's getting real tiny. Is there any way to force chrome to use more memory? I have 16gb on my system, and rarely use more than 50-60% of it.&nbsp;
Caelan, a potential workaround -- if you are able -- is to split the image using your image editor of choice into 4 or even 8 equally sized slices, uploaded separately, and combine them on the tabletop.
That is clever, I will try that out and see if it works tomorrow
