This week we played to the DnD'ifyed song "Enjoy The Silence" by Depeche Mode, DM's interpretation of DM. The song was suggested and requested by SolidHybrid . The map was literally DM (cover art logo) in shape revealed gradually by the Players with Roll20 Advanced Fog of War feature and dynamic lighting. There were 3 monster types, all ones who cast Silence or create and use Silence as an advantage. Sneaky albino goblinoids with Passwall ability; undead Baneguards in the flower; and finally an evil Yellow Dragon submersed in a sand cone, in a dangerous desert in the "M" called Sands Of Silence. Morrigan (Lex's PC) died here in the Mode, swallowed by the yellow dragon named Depeche, and chewed below negative-CON hit points (our house rule HP floor on permanent character death). Finally near the end the PC's went through $ecret Doors, Brawnwyn(RainbowSilks Fallen Valk) got hit by Power Word: Violence trap (according to the song lyrics "words, like violence, break the silence and come crashing into my little world") and she briefly had to fight the party-mates and be contained, de-escalated. This was a series of AD&D Power Word spell traps, using all the versions, one on each trap-tripping PC. Vicious. One of the henchmen got hit with Power Word: Silence , and another took Power Word: Kill . Deadly. (From the lyrics, "Pleasures remain, so does the pain"). Classic spells. Those who survived met the King from the DM Enjoy The Silence MTV music video, here named with parts of 2 band member names (King-Martin-David). For reward the PC's got into a custom treasure room and chose magic items befitting their characters (Also from the words, "Pleasures remain, so does the pain"). On the last leg of the "M" they found the wormhole heading "home" or at least back to the music club, the discoteque, which sends the party out on these missions each week again and again. Episodic! Info from Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enjoy_the_Silence The band's name, Depeche Mode, means something like "fashion report", derived from French language. Lyrics with clues for the song quest adventure: Words, like violence, break the silence, Come crashing Into my little world. Painful to me, pierce right through me. (POWER WORDS IN THE GAME) Can't you understand, oh my little girl ? (HALFLING FEMALES IN THE GAME) All I ever wanted, All I ever needed Is here in my arms. Words are very unnecessary. They can only do harm. Vows are spoken to be broken. Feelings are intense. Words are trivial. Pleasures remain, so does the pain. Words are meaningless and forgettable. All I ever wanted, All I ever needed Is here in my arms. Words are very unnecessary. They can only do harm.
