I'm am new to this site and have played very little 5th edition. That said I've played AD&D 2nd for two years now. Typically, I play games with a mix of role play and combat; pure combat gets dull, and pure role play is tolerable as long as everyone is doing it. (I've been in groups where the dm role played with a single character for 4 hours. It was hell.) The kind of character that is most fun to play would be a self efficient character that is willing to work with others for means greater than their own pride.
