Uploading PDF maps. Does it work?

I have no idea how to make this work.  I drag the PDF onto the screen, select the page number, the little green bar fills up, and then it just hangs until I eventually get tired and hit reload, which, of course, ends up not posting it as well. My life would be so much easier if I could upload maps.  Please help.

As far as I know, you cannot upload a pdf graphic. My suggestion would be to convert outside of Roll20 and upload the resulting graphic. Jpeg would be the best format for a map, since they are generally quite large and do not require transparency.
PDFs will not work as maps on the Map Layer. PDFs can be uploaded as handouts, though it only uploads a single page of the PDF. For maps on the Map Layer you should use .jpg file format or .png file format. Do not use the .jpeg file extension for .jpg files.
Well, when you drag it into the window, a message comes up about trying to drag a PDF, then it asks which page or pages I wait, I get the "Uploading, this may take a while" message, the little green loading bar fills up, and then it just hangs forever. If I go your route, how do I change the size of the map to fit Roll20's squares?  (There are grid lines on the map, but I want them to match up.)

A work around to upload a pdf map is to upload it as a handout to get it into your art library then you can drag it from your art library to the map space. I would recommend importing it to a 3rd party photo program and do all your resizing in that program. Roll20 uses 70x70 pixel size for each unit.
Best thing is to open the map up in GIMP, set a 70 px grid in GIMP and then scale the image to the grid.  Then when you import it, it will be at the right size.  If you're importing from a .pdf, you can also play with the resolution when you're importing to get the right image quality vs. file size (that is, the lowest resolution that gives you enough quality on the screen)

It can open the PDF directly, allowing you to choose the correct page to import. In certain cases, you can also select the image in the PDF and copy it and then open it in GIMP through File->Create->From Clipboard.

I use gimp for all my map work prior to uploading to roll20 but just remember to keep this centered on the roll20 aspect and the original poster's question/request.
