[LFP] D&D 5e Tal 'Dorei Campaign

1518321488

Edited 1518325575
A party of 3 + DM are looking for 2 more players for a campaign set in Matt Mercer's Tal 'Dorei setting. The game will occur on alternating Saturdays at around 5 pm MST (time has yet to be set in stone). If you're interested, please fill out the app below and either post it here or PM it. A little info on characters: You will roll for stats and reroll your lowest number or take the standard array Characters start at Level 3 Character classes and backgrounds are limited to what's in the PHB, Xanathar's, SCAG, and Tal 'Dorei campaign guides Currently, the party consists of an Arcane Trickster Rogue, a Trickster Cleric, and a Bloodhunter App : Name: Age: Timezone: A little background about yourself : (What do you do? What other hobbies/interests do you want us to know about?) D&D Experience:  Character Idea: (Don't worry if you don't have one yet but give a sentence or two on what you'd like to play if you have something in mind.)
Name: Troy or Iz (IGN for just about any other game) Age: 23 Timezone: EST Background: Current college student planning to graduate come May. Use to play a variety of sports until a knee injury, tried to stay active but couldn't quite cut it even in club sports. Pretty big on just about anything fantasy, anime, manga. Anything else just ask! DnD XP: I've been playing since about 16. Started on 3.0e/3.5e dnd, played some Pathfinder, been playing a lot more 5e within the past few years. Have watched Critical Role campaign multiple times over, couldn't tell you who my favorite PC is in the first campaign. Seen campaign 2 content up to date so far, enjoy all the characters so far! Character Idea: I'm perfectly fine with playing a "tankier" character, I really enjoy my modified Orc Totem Barbar in another campaign (stat modified with DM permission +2 str/con, -2 int instead of +2 str, +1 con, -2 int). I'm pretty comfortable and flexible to learn just about anything. If Tal'Dorei campaign is involved I might want to make some sort of druid, they feel super strong. Not sure if I'd want to play a druid doing an Aremente or not though. Very open to anything! Question for the group: What kind of communication system would you plan on using? Discord, Skype, so on. I'm pretty open to hanging out outside of campaign as well to theory craft or just play another game, always willing to make more friends.
Name: Jari (Yari) or just N0thing Special Age: 20 Timezone: GMT +8, I'm west coast of Australia but my timezones match up perfectly. A little background about yourself : I'm a student of animation currently, have an interest in D&D, Warhammer 40k, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars. Hobbies are table top warhammer and procrastination. Apart from that I am just an average guy I guess. D&D Experience: Been playing D&D for a few years now, but watched campaign for a few years before that. Character Idea: I'd like to play a ranger as it is the class I have least experience in, I'm thinking a guy who grew up away from civilization with his few companions hunting for food and what not, eventually something happened that lead to him meeting the rest of the group (If I am able to play I would like to flesh this out with the DM, I love detailed backgrounds that give the DM plenty to work with).
Name: Daniel Age: 22 Timezone: GMT-2 A little background about yourself : I'm a 3d modeling student and aspiring game designer, been working on learning programming and music while attending college and doing all the irl bullshit. I'm a gamer at heart and been playing for as far as I can remember, also big into music, mostly game osts just from how good they are. Other than that I try to be friendly and unfortunatly am a little timid, and very sarcastic, very. D&D Experience:  Playing for about a year, DMing for about 4 months Character Idea: I have a lot of ideas in the vault, kinda have one for each type of class, been mostly looking at a martial class theese days, maybe monk or a fighter. I'm pretty chill in going for what the party needs if that is necessary.
Name: Shaquille or Shaq (which ever you like) Age: 24 Timezone: EST Background: I’m a baker who likes to spend their free time playing video games, drawing, playing D&D or listening to D&D podcasts. I’m pretty easy-going and like to lighten the mood when I can.  D&D Experience: My experience is mainly in 5e. It started with watching/listening to Adventure Zone and Critcal Role. Then I joined a couple campaigns until I started my own campaigns. Now I just want to be a player again so that’s why I am applying.  Character Idea: I have a couple character ideas. It a more silly human Shepherd Druid who hides behind a mask pretending to be a bit of a superhero while she at most would be a good support character, a firbolg grave cleric who was banished from his clan for murder and is trying to make up for it by saving enough lives that equal to the one he took, and the last but not least a Luchador fighter or ancestral Barbarian looking for worthy challenges and to spread his name/legend across the contienent.  Thanks for the consideration :)
Name: Light Age: 20 Timezone: EST A little background about yourself: I'm a game addict who loves to play RPGs and am an aspiring author. D&D Experience: Been watching and listening to D&D for roughly four years and started playing 5e around six months ago. Character Idea: I've several characters already made and at level 3. One's a Wild (wood) Elf Ranger who's confidence is a tad overbearing. I've got a Half-Elf Sorcerer who acts like a jester and a father figure in one. There's the Human Rogue who relentlessly hunts arcane knowledge. Oh, and a Cleric who's got wings. That. But I'm fine with making anything the party would need, really. Hope I can get a consideration.

Name: Heather Age: 27 Timezone: EST (though on Saturdays this shan't matter, as I have weekends off!) A little background about yourself : I'm big into videogames! Mostly stuff in the survival/crafting genre and RPGs, though I've recently found that I like the challenge of roguelikes. Other than that, I like reading (I cut my teeth on David Eddings and R. A. Salvatore), writing, surreal humor and emerging memes, and in my spare time I do freelance copyediting. D&D Experience: I've been playing 5e for a bit over a year, and I played 3.5 before that for a little while (like two years? it's been a long time). I've also been DMing for about five months. Beyond that, I've played Pathfinder, FATE, and various PBtA/D6 systems and enjoyed all of it.  Character Idea: I'd love to try my hand at an Earth Genasi Fighter! Someone from Marquet, running from...responsibility? Maybe? Someone whose family is powerful, but frightening. Probably Battlemaster, as I love the tactical aspect of it, and you currently seem to have a bit of Arcane casting covered. Alternatively, if you have tanking/melee covered with your Bloodhunter, I've always wanted to play a Necromancer Wizard, probably half-elf, probably morally dubious but not bad . Someone who fell into necromancy by accident, or because they were desperate, and found that they liked it, liked the perks. That said, I tend to be the sort of person who tries to slot into the current party, so I have ideas for a little bit of everything. I hope to hear from you! I've been following CR for a while, and I love the setting. I'm equally as excited to be part of another homebrew campaign, since my very first game was homebrew, so they're very near and dear to my heart. In conclusion:

Half-orc Hexblade (Warlock) and no Texan accent.

Name: Roger Age:  32 Timezone: EST A little background about yourself : I am a clinical researcher running cancer trials. I love D&D and boardgames. D&D Experience: I have been playing since 4e and am often in multiple campaigns. I love all aspects of D&D, role-playing, exploration and combat. My play styles depend on the character I am playing, sometimes I am the charismatic face of the party, some times I am the brute force, sometimes I am the intelligent tactician more interested in lore etc. Character Idea: Character Name: Saltaba “Salt” Corus Al-Zahir Race: Sea Elf Alignment: Neutral Good Class: Druid or nature cleric or some combination Background: I grew up in a small nomadic tribe of Nireem. We were a tribe of Alu Tel Quessir, otherwise known as water elves. We traveled throughout the western shores of the mountains near the Visa Isle where we fished and farmed seaweed, kelp, shellfish and other mollusks. You see my mother Aryn Corus, was a sea elf who fell for Jiraad al-Zahir, a Marid from the plane of water. Unlike most genies though, my father loved Aryn and stayed with us. Marid were not trusted though over time, my father’s presence was tolerated and even accepted. Still, the presence of a Marid and his half-breed daughter always stood out. Then the upheaval came. When Thordak, the Cinder King rose to power the Lizardfolk of Visa Isle sought to appease the dragon king but pillaging the surrounding coast for offerings. Our village fought. Our village lost. It was not much of a battle though our village fought bravely, especially my father. As powerful as he was, he was no match for an entire legion. He sacrificed his life so that most of the village could escape, including my mother and myself We wandered the Ozmit sea until we found refuge in the isolated island of Vesrah, home to the Water Ashari. Through them I have been able to learn to harness the elemental powers bestowed by my father at birth. Over time I became a prominent wave rider. I take pride in my duties to protect the ocean. My mother Aryn settled in nicely as well, creating a new farm along one of the coves which helped feed the people of Vesrah. I always try to remain calm and collected, but those who disrupt the elemental planes or who do not respect nature will incur my wrath. Although I try not to let it get the best of me, I know I still harbour a grudge against lizardfolk.

Name: Ryan Age:  18 Timezone:  EST Background:  My long term group recently ended our campaign, so I'm looking for a new one. D&D Experience:  I have around 6 months of experience total, most being online and all being in 5e. Character Idea: An aasimar monk following the way of the sun soul. Warrior mindset, rather die in battle than in bed. Was sent out by his monestary on a divine quest to prove himself worthy of becoming the headmaster of his school. They never told him the requirements, however, so he acts as a bounty hunter to fiends that cause trouble. His alignment is neutral good, and he will generally not kill in battle unless it is a fiend, as that was the primary enemy of his school and the creatures that are enemies of his celestial heritage.
Name: Ryan Age: 21 Timezone: EST A little background about yourself : Currently a college senior looking to play with new people! I generally play with my friends and I'd really like to branch out D&D Experience: Close to three years of playing and DM-ing!  Character Idea: Drow Assassin Rogue/Barbarian, path of the berserker! Formerly of royal blood, Eunmi Seol was stolen away from her family as a young girl and forcibly raised in a small high elf village who actively stole away drow children in hope of "purifying them" and saving them from their dark fate based on their race alone. It took her a few years to escape and it ended in a lot of bloodshed; she has barely any memory of her family, nor any real knowledge of where they could be, so she wanders about trying to find them and also personally seeing to the end of the people who dared steal her away and hurt her.

Hi there Name:  Anderson but I'm more used to my nickname Rato Age:  30 Timezone:  GMT-3 Since the time is not set yet I would like to ask if it would be possible to move 1 hour earlier. At the current time It would start 10PM over here and if the game lasts 4 hours I would be kinda sleepy halfway into it :P If not that's cool.  A little background about yourself : Right now I'm unemployed, but hopefully not for long. My hobbies boil down to 3 things; Video Games, Anime and D&D (well, watching people play D&D online really). I'm a huge Critical Role fan, watched every episode, and I would absolutely love to play in Tal 'Dorei. A place I actually am familiar with as opposed to all those other homebrew settings and whatnot. D&D Experience: As of yesterday a grand total of one session! But I'm really confident that I know pretty much all the rules in 5E from the hundreds of hours of watching people play online, not even including the more or less 500 hours of Critical Role alone. Character Idea: I have half a dozen characters fully created already, with personalities, backgrounds, and etc... I can just fill any role available, and I can just make another brand new character on the spot if needed, I just love creating characters. But here's a list of them, note that I'm not including two of them since their classes are picked already (one is a Arcane Trickster Rogue Tiefling and the other Tempest Cleric Wood Elf) Drow Figther - Arcane Archer Human (or other race, not set in stone) Fighter/Samurai or Monk/Way of the Kensei Human Barbarian - Totem warrior Halfling Monk - Not too sure on what subclass. Probably way of the open hand. EDIT:  I'm sorry, I didn't notice you mentioned this is a bi-weekly game. I'm looking for a weekly game, if there is any chance to make this a weekly thing that would be great. But if not you can disconsider my application if that's the case. Good luck with your campaing and have fun! I just can't see myself waiting two weeks per session, it's just too much! XD
Thanks to everyone who replied! The lfp is currently closed and I'll be reaching out to people today/tomorrow.
Just a smidge late because I was running a session, but I'll put it up anyway just in case. Name: Ghost Age: 26 Timezone: EST A little background about yourself : Big ol' nerd of many types. I'm a big fan of gaming in general, of course, but I'm also an absolute writing and tech junkie. D&D Experience: So, so much. I'm an old hand who has been playing for more than a straight decade now, and I'm very confident in both roleplaying and mechanics, enjoying both about equally. Character Idea: I have a few loose ideas for a Rogue, Wizard or Paladin that I'd be interested in running by the group, but I'm willing to be flexible and build to suit the party in personality/mechanics, since well-rounded groups are more fun.
