Multiple NPC Casters sharing spell slots

So I ran into a problem while throwing multiple Acolytes at my players.  When Acolyte A cast a level 1 spell, it updated the spell slots for Acolyte A as it should, but also Acolyte B, C, and D at the same time.   My question is, is it possible to separate multiple casters on the board so they don't share spell slots?   5th edition ogl character sheet.  I'm using the Monster Manual and Volo's Guide tokens provided. Thanks everyone.

How are you tracking these spell slots? If it is in the character sheet, then, the only way would be to make a separate character sheet for each of them. If it's via the token bubbles, see the wiki on linking tokens to journal entries - particularly the section on mooks.
Hi Scott, The default Acolyte is linked to a character sheet through the monster manual that I purchased.  So it makes it easy to drag and drop the acolytes onto the tabletop.  These Acolytes are being used as mooks, but are still linked to the original character sheet.   If I'm understanding you correctly, after reading over the wiki you linked, if I drag the token over first, then unlink it from the source character sheet, it should stay the way it started as, but not update the main sheet as it's no longer linked? If I'm wrong, please clarify for me? I'll give this a try on a test sheet, just to make sure. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the mook method only works for abilities which are part of the token. The spell slots are recorded only on the sheet. Your options are to just keep a manual tally of whom has used what, or to create duplicates of the character sheet for that encounter. They can be safely deleted afterward. Unless you have many, many acolytes, you should be able to do this without much effort. You cannot drag multiple sheets directly from the Monster Manual. To create a duplicate, open the sheet, click the edit button on the bio tab and scroll down until you see the duplicate button. Press it once for each duplicate you wish to create.
So if I duplicate the mook, do I still need to unlink it?  Also, will it retain it's spell slots when I unlink it?   If I have to manually keep track of each mook's spell slots, I will.  But I'm hoping there is a way to have it tracked via the individual mook.

If you duplicate the character , there is no need to unlink anything. Each Acolyte token represents a separate acolyte character sheet, and each is tracked independently. If you make the token a mook (all tokens referring to a single character sheet, but HP Bar unlinked so that it is tracked only from the token), then you will need to track spells manually, since any token that casts a spell will be casting it from a common character sheet.
Duplicating is the route I want to go.   Thank you for clarifying that :)

Note that you will actually need to resetup the default token for the duplicated sheet because the default token will still be linked to the original character, which means that shift clicking the duplicated default token will bring up the original sheet instead of the new duplicate.

I forgot that step. :( This seems like it should be simpler...
Seems like manual tracking it is then.   Thank you for helping me with this.  I've racked my brain for days trying to find a solution.

If I have a lot to keep track of, I use numbers on the token markers to keep track of spell slots. Unfortunately, it means that my players can see how many slots they have left, but at least it helps me keep everything straight. Maybe this workaround will help?
Kirsty, That's a great idea.  I currently use the color tokens for what monsters are targeting which players.   Maybe I can modify that concept though.  I could use the GM layer and put spell slots as a text box there.  I could see it, and label it for each mook I use by color. Thanks :)
You could also use the GM Notes on the token itself to keep track of the spells. It would make it so that you could track it separately for different tokens and would prevent the players from seeing it, but requires you to open the token to see/update.
Kyle, I think that would be the easiest route for me to go. Once the mooks are defeated, I delete them off the board anyway.  So using that technique would solve the problem of note taking and getting notes mixed up. Thank you.  :)
