Case notes - spidery murder mystery thing Track + apprehend - client to decide what happens to target. Client: name - [unpronounceable/unspellable], a.k.a Bruce Cohatchling: name - [also unpronounceable/unspellable], a.k.a Cliff Murdered seed-father's name: [yep, you guessed it], a.k.a Ringo Trail lost on Harper's World. Cohatchling came here, but unclear what happened next. Arrived within last week from Darian (sp?). No known associates off homeworld. Spider-like creature has been seen in a Harper's World spaceport "a few days ago" - 3-4/7 ago. No other details recalled by witnesses. Harm contacted Baron Hull, obtained a departure time + location. Cliff sought passage off-world aboard a frigate travelling toward the Voidlands, bound for Flussen. From Flussen, frigate then travelled to Krytea. Baron Hull - smuggler in port on Harper's world Previously on Impulse Drive - Hebe entertained Bruce by answering his questions with questions of her own, raising the question... can Hebe self-destruct? - Harmony and Faraday were tailed back to the ship from starport security - The ship was approached and surrounded by station security agents wanting to search for "contraband" - Quintus, Harm + Faraday were detained in holding cells at station security --- Q was interrogated about the smuggling of artefacts, particularly the Todtraum Schwarzrelikt, which is known to cause hallucinations, delusions and insomnia in susceptible people --- The crew was then released - The crew boarded Bruce's ship to try to catch up on the frigate - Cybernetic implants are needed for organics to interface with the ship; inorganics require an organic interface; Q accepted implants (1 point calculating moved to alien) - Spidership hyperspace interdicted by moon-sized organic lifeform; team reacted by blasting a pathway through the middle of it and flying through very, very fast - Spidership arrived at Flussen --- Many dead frigate crew found on ground at landing site --- Harm dropped off onto planet surface; warned off by the Dead Men of Dunharrow --- Scientific equipment abandoned on the surface shows the recently deceased on the ground had the same warning Session notes (1/2) Harm is on planet surface. Retrieves a holorecorder and starts slowly ascending off the ground. Quintus scans for contaminants (MISS) - and Harmony's holorecorder starts warming up and radiating IR -- it's going to self-destruct. Harm throws it away (PARTIAL SUCCESS) - and is partly hit by an EMP but otherwise unharmed. The grav belt dies and Harm starts approaching the planet surface. Q sends the spidership into a very fast dive (SUCCESS) and Faraday leans out of the airlock to try to catch Harm (MISS) and instead also falls out. Hebe tries to envelop and save the falling crew (MISS) - and also falls. Quintus manoeuvres the ship (PARTIAL SUCCESS) to catch the crew with the shield*. Harm splats against the shield for 1 harm. Harm takes advantage of not plummeting to fix their grav belt, and the crew makes it back into the ship. Harm uses knowledge of United Suns ships/protocols to guess where the frigate might be going (SUCCESS) - the ship's trajectory can be estimated by considering United Suns Navy emergency protocols. Hebe goes back down to the surface to retrieve a brain from junior security officer Ensign John Yorick. The frigate is headed to Krytea, and will have already landed there. Hebe plots a course (PARTIAL SUCCESS) and holds 3. Hebe engages the drive (PARTIAL SUCCESS) and the ship arrives with an Unlikely Passenger... an escape pod with cryotechnology and no propulsion, containing a person (Abelard Dane) who is "completely innocent" and was "attacked by space pirates". Bruce wants to kill Abelard, but lowers his weapons when fixed with a steely glare from the hound (PARTIAL SUCCESS). The ship lands at Krytea Spaceport, on the planet Krytea. The team goes to check in with The Agency, then Team Robot goes in search of an AI expert. We learn that the naval facility is on lockdown, and The Agency is unable to help. *Acting as a solid force shield - there may be implications for this later(edited) The Krytea Star system is situated almost directly in the center of the Voidlands. It is the refueling point for travelers, making their way along the sector’s major traffic route. The capital is a densely populated Human world, friendly to outsiders. Newport Naval Yard is located here, which is home to 25 warships. The Krytea spaceport has everything that a traveler might need, excellent living accommodations, refit, refueling, etc. KRYTEA A4-F37D-O55 (Hex:2935) Abelard Dane - in escape pod with cryogenics, accidentally brought onboard during hyberjump Session notes (2/2) Hebe meets the hacker and negotiates services (MISS), so needs to reveal core programming. It will take 3 days to work out what's going on and how to fix it. It'll be a little costly, so will degrade 1 option when the ship is next paid. Harm gears up to infiltrate the naval yard (PARTIAL SUCCESS). Defenses and security are weak at the affiliated port. They are on the lookout for any non-Alliance anything. Harm tries to make contact with Wilbur, a markedly plump local black marketeer (PARTIAL SUCCESS). Harm goes to meet him in a bar and is advised to take Faraday as backup. They try to keep their cool (2x SUCCESS) and Wilbur offers to arrange an extraction at a specified time and date in return for owing a favour. In the day (and a bit) before the naval yard adventure, Faraday tries to research the ancient big bad. Quintus changes loadout. Other things happen. Cliffhanger Move MVP: Quintus for the shield catch manoeuvre FLAGS: Hebe - questioning moral choices. Faraday - endangering self to save Harm. CHARACTERISATION: Faraday - charging into danger. COMPLETED MISSION: No LEARNING ABOUT UNIVERSE: We learned about shields NEW ENEMIES: No affiliated port = port for any non-alliance ships they have dealings with. Wilbur - Black Marketeer
