I was wondering do I need to create a character before attempting to join a group or do I wait to create a character after I join a group? I'm new to roll20. Also if I need to create a character first where do I create one at?
Best to wait. each gm has there own creation rules for there game. Now if you wana practice and maybe not use them you can make as many as your heart wants too. Edit: roll20 has sheets for games or you may use https://www.myth-weavers.com/
You can create characters all you want in your own game, to get a feel for the system and how things operate, but most GM/DMs want to see your rolls and might want you to create a character during session 0.
suggestion: use Standard Array for your Character Creation 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 if you do the math it still follows the Point Buy system as well, most GMs use Standard Array due to it offering an equal and fair method for all players to be on even ground, also allowing them to tailor fight to the Group
