"Basically, the Earth got rat-fucked by aliens, and some of us were unlucky enough to survive. But let me start from the beginning. Life was mostly good in 2018; people complained, but most of us had food, a non-leaking roof, and the people who wanted to kill us were at least a few thousand miles away. That all ended when the Hegemons warped in, intending to make us the newest slaves for their thousand-species empire. Cities were flattened, nukes were launched, the crops were poisoned, and a few billion starved out. There isn't a man, woman, or child alive today that didn't have to do some scary, fucked up, give-you-nightmares shit just to survive those lean years. Eventually, the tide turned when the Hegemons' ancient enemies, the robotic 'Redeemers' showed up and helped us to kick some ass. It's now 2028. The Hegemons have been gone for four years, but they've left their mark. Over a billion of their aliens have been imported, terraforming experiments turned our backyards into fungus-strewn hellscapes, and people pack enough discarded alien hardware to turn tanks into slag piles. Meanwhile, Earth has joined galactic civilization as a third-world shithole. The old governments are back, pretending to run things inside the Green Zones while having their strings pulled by alien big wigs. Outside of the cities, you're likely to be ganked by roaming gangs, starving alien predators, or berserk AI. The lucky few get rich enough to move off-world. Pamphlets speak of resort-paradises, constructed as bribes by alien civilizations to lure Earth's best and brightest away. And who can blame them; anything beats living down here in this mess." In Earth: Out of the Mess the players are a group of mercenaries struggling to earn a living in an ecologically devastated and war torn Southern California in the year 2028. Players can be human, or design a custom alien race to play! The narrative draws on themes of cynicism, technology, trauma, militarism, xenophobia, societal decay, ideological struggle and violence. Characters whose backgrounds reflect these themes are more likely to fit snugly into the narrative. Combat in the game tends to be more outdoorsy, and more vehicle oriented (including walkers and aircraft) than what is seen in most campaigns. Expect lots of explosions! The game takes place every Sunday from 5:00 - 9:00 PM Pacific Time. We've been pretty regular over the last 7 months or so, and will probably continue into the foreseeable future. We use Google Hangout for voice, and Roll20 for the gaming space. We're looking for cool, chill people who play well with others. If that sounds like you and you're interested in the game, or if you have any questions, feel free to let me know!
