Well met
travelers! I am looking for three players to begin an ongoing, long
term, 5e campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. I currently have one
player already on board so the party size will be four to start with
the possibility of adding a fifth in the future (up to the group).
This style of game is story-focused with a mix of roleplay,
exploration, and combat. Those that favor character development,
engaging storylines, and party camaraderie will feel right at home.
Session Details
D&D 5e
The
setting will be the Forgotten Realms (Faerun, Sword Coast).
The
overarching story line will be original though I may include a module
every so often that would be seamlessly integrated.
Players of
all experience levels (including beginners) are welcome.
Once our
group is determined, we will have a session zero to discuss
character ideas, campaign ideas, house rules, starting information,
etc.
Sessions
will take place on Thursdays and begin around 12 or 1PM CST (6 or
7PM UK). A typical session will generally last 3-4 hours depending
on player needs/wants. A fair expectation is 3 sessions per month depending on life getting in the way.
Video and voice via Skype is preferred. I am also intrigued to try
Discord, though I don’t have any experience with it.
Characters
will be starting at 1 st level and use standard stat array
plus racial bonuses.
Expect a
mix of theater of the mind play and graphic/audio presentation via
Roll20. Incidentals such as maps, handouts, visual aids, music, etc. will be
provided via Roll20.
DM Vision on Gameplay
No area of the game will be specifically emphasized or hold priority over others.
Combat, social encounters, roleplay, exploring, etc. will happen organically as the
story progresses and the party dictates. This means some sessions may be roleplay or
investigation heavy and some may be combat heavy. All depends on
what is happening within the story and choices that are made.
Probably best described as mid to high fantasy. As for magic levels, magic is fairly common in the more densely populated areas but fairly rare in rural areas.
Magic
items are fairly uncommon. When an item of significant power is found
or earned, I want the moment to be special. In other words, I want
characters to obtain exotic and valuable items and use them, but,
there won’t be magic items in every cave searched and every chest opened, nor will there
be dedicated magic item shops in towns. If this is an issue, this
game may not be the best fit for you.
Rules
serve as a skeleton but I am definitely open to house rule
suggestions and tweaking if they enrich the experience for everyone.
Creativity is welcomed and may override some aspects of rules
depending on the situation. “Outside-the-box” thinking and
problem solving create memorable scenes in my experience.
Active
roleplay is encouraged!
Fleshing
out characters, exposing flaws, discovering unique personality
traits and quirks, creating some friction here and there are what
make good campaigns, great!
Failure.....is a good thing! Though it is expected that players/characters will always be striving for victory over whatever obstacles lie in front of them, sometimes, mishaps provide the most memorable experiences (and comedy relief)!
Our primary goal
is to create a collaborative story rich in flavor and littered with
fantastic memories. Characters will unlock mysteries, expose hidden
secrets, battle fearsome monsters and villains, and potentially be the
subjects of legendary Bardic lore. Character evolution will be
dynamic and ultimately shaped by the player’s choices, the
environment, and the story’s impact.
Anyone interested
please reply here or send me a private message and we can discuss
further details and character ideas. I am prepared to begin as soon
as the group is determined. Looking forward to gaming with you!
