[LFP] [D&D 5e] In Another World With My Generic Japanese High School

TL;DR in bold. Hello there! Another GM and I are starting up a campaign with a homebrew starting point and class. We are looking for 4-7 weebs players that are interested in a good amount of RP and generic isekai storylines. The premise of the story is: your generic Japanese High School class suddenly finds itself in a fantasy world! As such your characters will all be limited to humans of high school age and will not start with a D&D class, but instead will have to find and research the class they want to be as they explore the new world. The first session will start in Japan and cover your transition to the fantasy world. We will be playing sometime Monday that works for everyone, tentatively 1300EST/1200CST for 4-5 hours. The sessions will not go past 5:45 CST as I have work at night. Table Rules: 1) Please match the tone and setting. This is a generic isekai story. Everyone will nearly immediately be in a dire situation. Everyone will be mundane humans. There's no issue with having a class clown, but please know restraint. 2) Please be involved with other players and the story. Nothing bogs down a session like someone uninterested in what's going on or edgelords who don't talk to or care about the rest of the party. You can be evil, you can be an edgelord, you can be taciturn, but if you are you'll need to find an in-character excuse to involve yourself with what's going on. If you want to create extra work for yourself, you'll need to actually do that work. 3) Respect your party members. Your life is in their hands and theirs in yours, being rude to them via actions or words will naturally lead to extremely dangerous situations. 4) No overly long or complex backstories. Shoot for stereotypes that people will recognize, you'll be a high schooler for the first half of the first session. People should be able to tell what your deal is before the fantasy starts, and your epic background will seem trivial once we hit the fantasy world. 5) Respect the boundaries of your fellow players. Outside of their characters people themselves have things they're comfortable with and things they're not. What to Expect: 1) This campaign will be mostly theater of the mind. As I learn how to create maps there might be more maps for combat and exploration, but for now there will be blank grids for combat, and a heavy focus on description. 2) You will be railroaded before the world opens up. There's no getting around this. You're starting off as a human highschooler and you're going to a fantasy world. Once you get there you will initially be constrained to what generic highschoolers can do. The world will open up according to your own developments and will be mostly open. We have two DMs to write the story so feel free to do what seems natural. If you are interested in joining, please post in our "character applicants post here" thread with the following format: What your Character is like: What their background/interests are: Role Playing: Combat: Prior Experience: What you want out of the campaign: Thanks for checking us out!

I have made a fatal flaw in this forum post by directing everyone to reply in the hyperlinked post. This thread will never be bumped! That's my bad, and I can't change it now, so the remainder of this thread will be a Q&A thread along with slight specifications. Feel free to ask questions in this thread, they will be answered here and be rehosted in the other thread. Q: How will stats be determined? A: 3d6 6 times and 1 4d6 drop the lowest. You may drop the lowest of those 7 rolls and put your stats where you want. You will be human high school seniors, so it's unlikely for you to have fantasy adult level stats. &{template:default} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[3d6]]}} {{[[4d6d1]]}} for a more literal answer. Q: How long should we expect this campaign last for? A: i'm hoping for a longer running campaign, its going to depend on all players and dms to keep this running - George Q: How long would the typical session last for? A: 4-5 hours The latest I can stay well be 17:45 CST as I work at night. Q: Is UA material allowed? A: More or less, although every feat and class needs to go through DM approval and can only be gained at appropriate times. Q: How will we communicate, i.e. skype, discord, roll20 A: Discord Q: What level will we start at (presumably 1)? A: You will start as a level 1 commoner, a Homebrew class that draws inspiration from the challenge rating 0 monster manual NPC. Q: Will multi-class be allowed? A: Yes, we don't expect you to stay a commoner forever. Q: How will player death be handled? A: i'm thinking of removing lower end Resurrection spells, i want the game to feel real and gritty, give the characters a fear of life and death, but that's something we can discuss later on about what you all want. - George A2: No, I think what they're asking is what happens when your Japanes High School Character dies? Does another one just appear in the Fantasy world in the area you started? - Garrett A: yeah, another one appears - George A2: That's simple enough. - Garrett Q: What 5e classes are available? A: Everything is available via DM discretion and RP. You may be a commoner now, but in this fantasy world you find yourself in there are many ways to, for example, become a wizard. It's up to your character to discover and learn the knowledge they seek. Please do not design your Japanese High Schooler's personality around a particular 5e class. Specifications : try not to make self insert characters. Aim to make a character, not you in an anime. Think of that interesting side character and think how he deals with life. Be aware that you are not the protagonist, you all as a group are the main characters. So, avoid those "loner" protagonist tropes, but other tropes are accepted and supported. -George
