Help me Build my Savage Worlds Brawler!

Edited 1391582148
So I am playing "Savage Worlds: 50 Fathoms" with several friends atm and I am having some trouble deciding which direction to go with my character... I am hoping that some more experienced players will be able to help me decide which direction to go in... Attributes: Agility - D8 Smarts - D4 Spirit - D6 Strength - D8 Vigor - D6 Derived Stats: Pace - 6 Parry - 8 Parry w/ shield - 10 Toughness - 8 Charisma - 2 Load Limit - 64 Armor - 2 Skills: Fighting - D10+1 (D12+1 w/ scimitar) Shooting - D8 Boating - D8 Guts - D6 Intimidation - D6 Swimming - D6-2 Notice - D4 Survival - D4 Hindrances: Code of Honor (prevents me from becoming a corrupt official and skimming off of the top) Loyalty to the Crew Vow: To serve my Country at all Times Edges: Brawny; Block; Sweep; Improved Sweep; First Strike; Trademark Weapon (Scimitar); Noble; Rich; Filthy Rich Note: My income is currently 2083 pieces of 8 per month from the Filthy Rich edge. I am responsible for a district within New Madrid since my FIL is an Alcade in the city. I have a house with my wife (that I paid for) and also had to pay for my wedding (all in all the two of these cost me roughly 20k pieces of 8... Marriage was how I justified the Noble/Filthy Rich edges). I also just discovered that my FIL owes 100k to the Grande Alcade for a fleet that he purchased, and lost, to pirates... No idea how that is going to come back and bite me in the ass.Wedding gifts will be decided next session (hoping they are substantial since my GM has basically made the Noble/Filthy Rich edges I have taken into hindrances at this point...). I was hoping to save up for a ship, currently on a sloop, and to purchase a Letter of Marque within New Madrid so that we could become privateers... However, the expense of getting married made that plan impossible at the moment... Any ideas on how to build income, including saving my salary, will be greatly appreciated!!! Gear: Scimitar, Halberd (gift), Rifled musket, shot w/ powder (x20), Pot helm, Chain hauberk, and Large shield I managed to go to a fighting school in New Madrid where I was awarded an additional D6 to fighting and Improved Sweep (free since I saved the trainer's life). The halberd was given as a gift for returning a stolen ship to a warlord of Deiking. However, I never use the halberd since I almost always go with sword and board (+1D6 fighting (GM worked out D10+1 + 1D6 = D12+1... Scimitar only) and +2 parry from shield). I am currently at 38 experience and about to hit Veteran after this coming weeks session. Some of the difficulties I have been having are taking wounds/shaken penalties which all but eliminate my ability to do any significant damage... I was thinking of taking some defensive edges such as Improved Block and/or Dodge/Improved dodge... Most of the dmg that I seem to be taken are from melee attacks. What do you think my best options are for avoiding shaken/wounds? Up my spirit/vigor to roll out of dmg? Take defensive edges to prevent these hits from happening in the first place? I am just not sure at this point... If you see that I am missing something that would help please don't be shy!!! Thanks for your help!
Moving to Off-topic since this doesn't appear to be a suggestion.
I would go with combat reflexes for the +2 to get rid of the shaken condition. On that same note you might want to increase your Spirit.
I'm unfamiliar with the 50 Fathoms setting but you could think about the connections edge to gain a better contact to a trade guild or something along those lines to boost your income.
I considered connections but I don't have any streetwise, yet, so I would always be rolling at D4-2 to contact an acquiantance... Not very good odds on that one. Good idea though! Combat reflexes is nice but I am thinking I would rather avoid the condition all together than have to roll out of it... Obviously I'd like to be able to do both but I feel like that isn't possible at this poin
