Well that was more like it Book Two, Chapter 1.3 (session 38, 18 th January 2018) Having descended into the bowels of the iceberg lair, you fought and overcame the mighty Arauthator, Old White Death himself and many of his servants, those that you did not slay fled the scene in panic (or possibly relief). Sadly the brave Carharvilios died under the dragon’s claws mere seconds before Mads ripped the dragon apart (as a T-rex of course). A thorough search of the lair garnered a significant amount of treasure – not as much as you would expect from the lair of an adult dragon but Maccath assures you that this is but one of many lairs scattered across the deep north, she has no idea where the others may be. This was the least remote. You gather Maccath, her books and research papers and the assorted treasure up the iceberg to the abandoned ice hunter village and then down the cliff to the landing bay. Frostskimmer sails in and picks you up and then departs heading direct for Waterdeep. You arrived in Waterdeep harbour 18 days later (2 nd Alturiak 1485, having spent Midwinter Fest at sea). The Second Grand Council of Waterdeep convened on the 4 th Alturiak, at which you give an account of your exploits, Maccath presents her knowledge and the support of the Brotherhood of the Arcane to the Council (some muttering from Frume and the Order of the Gauntlet about that but overall it’s viewed as positive). At this Second Council, some things have changed: Lord Neverember has been replaced as Open lord of Waterdeep by Lady Laeral Silverhand, who now sits as the Head of the Council with Dagult, sitting to her right, no longer leader of the Lords Alliance. The delegates discuss the raids in their various domains after receiving your report, providing their own examples and updates on the ongoing activities of the cult and giving a clear impression that the situation is escalating. Delaan Winterhound of the Emerald Enclave reports that he is involved with investigations into recent dragon attacks in the Misty Forest. King Melandrach waves away Delaan’s concerns, saying that dragon attacks in the area have stopped since his elves increased their patrols and fortified their positions. Delaan confirms that under King Melandrach’s command, the elves of the Misty Forest have stepped up their defences, and the cult attacks seem to have ceased but warns that this is false confidfence – he has reason to believe that more and greater atatcks are imminent and that he is supported by prince Alagarthas in this opinion – in fact both believe that a wyrmspeaker is lose in the Misty Forset commanding a green dragon. Delaan backs down under the withering and proud refusal of King melandrach to acknowledge that there is a problem. Between Council sessions, Delaan Winterhound approaches you all through Franz, who it appears is a member of the Enclave (as was Carharvilios it seems – Delaan offers his sincere sympathies for your loss). He speaks of the draconic incursions in the Misty Forest mentioned at the council, and says that the Emerald Enclave's agents have been working with the support of Prince Alagarthas to prevent a new round of attacks, and they have learned that an elf has been seen with a green dragon – an elf that appeared to command the beast. With his agents already scattered throughout the Misty Forest, he wants you to support his request to the Council that you travel to one of the few dragon-raided settlements left standing in the aftermath—a village called Altand. If Delaan is correct in his belief that the mysterious master of the green dragon is one of the cult’s wyrmspeakers is true, the survivors of Altand might know something that will help find him. And finding and eliminating another wyrmspeaker – not to mention the possibility of grabbing a dragon mask is an opportunity not to be missed in his opinion. The Council agrees to this, despite Melandrach’s grumbling and asks you formally to investigate the possibility that a wyrmspeaker is active in the Misty Forest.
