Teach Me To Play?

I've wanted to get into D&D for well over 2 years now. I've filled out a character sheet, but I don't know if I did it correctly or not. Even if I did, I don't know how to actually play D&D and the video tutorials don't really work for me. Is there anyone willing to help me learn how to play?
I would recommend getting together with a group or person who has experience with D&D. Most RPGs today are based off of D&D.

Have you tried checking the LFG section of roll20? Look for games that "welcome new players." If you find a game you're interested in, make sure to communicate to the GM(game master) of the game that you are brand new to gaming. Hopefully they will seize the opportunity to help teach you how to play their game. Some systems have a free "sub-set" of rules available online. ie D&D 5e, Pathfinder, Dungeon World, etc. Other's, you may have to purchase a book/pdf. There are mannnnnnnny more players than GM's, so you might have an "adventure" just trying to get into a game, but don't give up. Roll20Con is just around the corner as well which often creates a few more games than normal, which might help... Good luck.

Dominick, I would suggest either using the LFG Tool ( https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search/) and applying for some games that accept new players, posting in the LFG Forum ( https://app.roll20.net/forum/category/22 ), or checking out either the official Roll20 LFG Reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/roll20LFG/ ) or the more general LFG Reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/lfg/ ). These are all places where you might find a game to play in - and the best way to learn is by playing.
I imagine there is a game store near you. If you go in there and talk with the staff, I bet they can help find a group of players that can help. Many stores run what is called Organized Play (goes by Adventure League for DnD and Pathfinder Socieity for Pathfinder RPG). I would start there if you are looking for a face to face group.

After all, I'm not even old enough to get a job yet.

Hello Giorno. Welcome to roll20. If you are interested in games that use text instead of voice and a friendly community, check out the Knights of the Written Word 2 which is a community for gamers who enjoy or prefer text-based games. We have threads for tips on how to play games, threads for ogl systems, open discussions on a wide variety subjects. Think about it is all I ask. We have games recruiting that are listed in the community also.
