Browsing the forums of other game webpages, i note that there are many requests for completed maps. No every DM always has the time to design the dungeon they might wish to have. Conversely, people like myself, who have a deep love of cartography, might have dozens of beautiful maps, but no one to show them to. My idea is to allow people to take tile sets already on Roll20, make maps out of them and then publish the maps in market place for free. Stipulations would be 1) the maps MUST BE FREE, as the person assembling the map is not the artist of the tiles, 2) Both the artist and the receiver must OWN THE NECESSARY TILES. Yes, i am aware that WOTC is annoying about usage rights, and some negotiations would be necessary to make this work. However, given their flagging sales, i think they might be willing to listen. Benefits to artists/companies 1) Increased sales; DM's who might otherwise have only purchased a couple of flat vanilla maps now have a reason to purchase a large map pack. Or several depending on how artists use #2. 2) Ability to sponsor cartographers; Smaller artists who are worried about flagging sales can gift map packs to well know cartographers to design with. This will result in maps using half a dozen different packs, thus increasing that artists sales again. 3) Increased over all usage of role 20. As each GM no longer has to design every map themselves, the number of games occurring can increase as less effort is necessary to each game. Further, people such as myself, who simply like making maps, will begin using role 20 to make maps and provide them to GM's/. I see this as a win/win/win for everyone involved, limited only by Hasbro/Wotc's staggering retentiveness about copyright/usage rights.
