Updating Purchased Modules and affect on the game/maps/tokens

Hello folks! I've never purchased a full module before, but I've been running my group through the Tyranny of Dragons modules from the Marketplace. We're many sessions in and I noticed the update for version 1.1 is available for HotDQ. I'm a bit nervous to update, though, as I have added many new tokens and maps to fill out side quests (and alternate one-shot game nights). Any insight on whether this update could wipe out customized items or overwrite anything I have added so far? I'd hate to lose anything and haven't found any mention of whether this could happen. Thanks for your time!
You can always copy your current game and try the upgrade on the copy.

Any alteration gets reset to the default is what I heard. Rabulias has a good idea.
The copy idea is a great one, thank you! I'll give that a try and see how that goes, and maybe make the updates manually as necessary.
Just in case anyone runs across this while searching for answers on the same topic: When running the update, I'm not seeing any data loss with my custom/additional maps or added tokens (like player tokens). These updates didn't affect maps we had been on just yet, however. A small update I made to one of the creatures being updated was lost in the transition (I added to the GM note for testing purposes). Creating the copy was probably the best thing to do in any case.
