[LFP] [Pathfinder Playtest] [Text Game] [CDT] Doomsday Dawn

Doomsday Dawn In 4718 AR—later this year—a rare planetary conjunction, in combination with the power of ancient artifacts erected in the desert kingdom of Osirion thousands of years ago, will create a massive portal between Golarion and the hostile planet of Aucturn, at the far edge of the solar system. If this portal appears, it will allow the ravenous aliens of the Dominion of the Black to harvest brains from the peoples of the Inner Sea region on a devastating scale and provide an opportunity for a nascent entity of great power awakening from eons-long gestation to feast upon the world of Golarion. Fortunately, hints of this imminent apocalypse have emerged from the sands of time over the past decade, affording a desperate chance to avert this doom. These hints and clues have become known as the Aucturn Enigma, and unless multiple groups of heroes rise to the challenge of opposing this catastrophe, it could destroy one world forever while simultaneously creating another. Doomsday Dawn is the playtest adventure path for Pathfinder 2nd Edition. In this adventure, taking place over the entire 11 years chronicled in every Pathfinder Adventure Path so far, players will control several different groups of characters as world-shaking events converge to ruin the world. Though you won't always be playing the same party, the decisions you make in each chapter will affect the outcomes of the others, and the adventure path as a whole. This will be a text game, starting at 6:30 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 21, when we'll have our Session 0 and create our first party of characters for Chapter One. The Red Hand Club is a gaming group, but more than that we're a collection of friends. We have similar interests, including RPGs, video games, anime, movies, sci-fi, comic books, etc., and we enjoy sharing those with our friends in the group! Some notes about the club: Firstly, we're all heavy roleplayers. Combat and exploration are important to us, but we get the most out of the game when our characters are motivated and have a personal investment in the adventure. Second, we really like it when you’re active in the RHC with us. We definitely don't expect you to devote your life to us, but we'd love for you to engage with us and be our friend! Outside of RPGs, we also play tabletop simulator games, watch movies together on Rabbit, and generally just hang out and chat. This isn't a requirement, but it's a huge plus! Finally, most of our games (but not all! This is up to the GM) are text. That means we prefer to do all of our in-character actions, reactions, and speech via Roll20’s chat window. Mechanical questions, and general shit-shooting are still done in Discord’s voice chat, but text RP affords us the ability to focus, think, and consider our characters' responses without the pressure to quickly respond that comes with a voice environment. It’s also more accessible for people who can’t, don’t want to, or are uncomfortable with roleplaying in voice. Also, all of our games tend to be high-production. We typically make full use of music, art, maps, and online handouts in Roll20, so if that tickles your fancy, leave me a comment or DM! --- Some questions for you! What kind of game do you want to play? What’s your favorite kind of RP experience? What’s your ideal player group? Are you okay with text games?
Hey, I'm Stephen novice DM and long time player, as for the type of game I'm pretty open to everything but I have a soft spot for fun flashy combat. RP experience wise I haven't too many things I suppose. I always try to play in character but end up making out of character jokes alot. My ideal player group is one where we all get along and I like to create characters invested in the other characters sub plots, when it comes to story telling I'm in the collaborative crowd. As far as text games I've never played dnd/pathfinder using text, I used to do some live chat roleplay but I think it could be interesting especially with the framework of the game to center it around.
Hi Tyler, I'm Bob. I've been playing pathfinder for several years and consider myself very knowledgeable about it. I don't really DM though, so I would want to join as a player. One of my long term games just ended after several years so I am looking for a new one. What kind of game do you want to play? I am most interested in trying out Pathfinder 2e. Although I do love 1e, so I would also be interested in joining one of those. Outside of the system, I am looking for a game with a good mix of RP and combat. I prefer to start at a relatively low level (1-6ish, but this is not a deal breaker), because I fine it more immersive to start out imperfect and vulnerable instead of just starting out god tier like so many classes become late game. What’s your favorite kind of RP experience? I like a bit of realism in my RP (other than the dragons and magic and whatnot). By this I mean the NPCs are a mix of good, bad and in between. The world is imperfect but not irredeemable. There is time to do things other than sprinting from world saving fight to world saving fight. I'm not saying there shouldn't be some overarching major impending evil, but preferably not one that makes stopping to start a business or do some local politics or side questing hard to justify. What’s your ideal player group? My ideal player group is one that is interested in working together and communicating. Once again, this is largely about immersion. It is hard to justify in character continuing to travel with someone that is constantly trying to rob you or get your killed just because OoC you are in the same campaign. We can all have our own motives, which might lead to disagreement. But preferably the majority of those disagreements are resolvable by talk and compromise. Are you okay with text games? Yep. Especially if we are in voice for out of character stuff so the in character text doesn't get buried. Slowing things down a little so that people think before responding should make for much more interesting PC-NPC interactions.
Hi there, my name's Matt and this all sounds awesome! What kind of game do you want to play? I enjoy a game where everyone jives creatively and we can tell an engaging story together. The concept of playing multiple characters at once is highly intriguing and exciting. What’s your favorite kind of RP experience? I enjoy when NPCs feel realistic and engaging. When character personalities are immersive the scenes can create themselves naturally. What’s your ideal player group? I like when all players are focused on their goals, and cooperating to make decisions that excite the group and progress the narrative. A group should be able to laugh and have fun together without losing sight of the situation at hand. Are you okay with text games? I've never played in a text game personally, but taking time to type out thoughts makes them feel real and helps the ideas come to life and feel believable. I've very interested to see how that effects the game and player interactions. Let me know if you have a spot open still, this sounds really fun!
